Reviiiiiiised Gooooooooal!
Finally, I made it! Rose Splendor is finished, and I scored my revised World Cup goal. Pix are behind the cut:
This is what I started with at the beginning of the World Cup:
0324
Here's the completed piece:0708b
Here's a close-up of my fabulous French knots: 0708c
And here's the back (probably the neatest one I've ever done): 0708d

Also, here are a couple of other finishes. These were the little pieces I didn't get finished for the Olympics, but I kept working on them:
These are probably slightly larger than actual size.0227b
0312

I think I tend to underestimate the amount of time it will take to stitch on higher counts. Oh well, I'm learning :)

ETA: I've added a pic of where I was at the beginning of the World Cup. Also (more importantly) thanks for all the comments...y'all rock!

Wow the colours on that are really excellent. :) Those other designs look like some of the other designs from the Cross Stitchers Oriental Odyssey book that I have too. I could go and look but it's late and I'm feeling lazy. ;)

Those are very pretty.

And, I'm totally jealous that you have a purple couch.

OOOOOOOOOH! That is so pretty! I've considered doing the rose one before. How long did it take you? Alas, I suck at french knots. But it still looks like fun!! I also LOVE the asian ones! So pretty!

I spent 26 days working on it, probably averaging 5-6 hours on each of those days. In some ways it went faster than I expected because the entire border is only half-stitches, but at the same time the stitches are smallish, so I kept feeling like I wasn't getting anywhere.

Very pretty! I love the color texture on the border. And your french knots are indeed fabulous. Your back is great, too! :D

Aww, I love the little pieces! I have a bit of a Japanese culture fixation (and I don't mean anime).

Oh, funny. I'm just about done with Rose Splendor, too. Just need to finish the doing the gold cord around the edge (just over half done now) and the French knots. I estimate another hour's worth of work. I did it section by section, though, instead of gridding and parking the way you did.

Don't you loooove that gold cord. I'm a fan of the shiny, although I hate the metallic thread with a passion.

I'm contemplating still doing the gridding and parking next time, but working on one object at a time.

I'm not so much of a fan of the gold cord, actually. I keep having trouble getting it to lie flat and stay where it's supposed to be. The pattern didn't say which thread to use for the couching, so I'm using the metallic gold thread. That provides the least contrast, but the most trouble in stitching. But I'm almost done with it...

I'm going to donate it to the James Tiptree auction at next year's Wiscon (a science fiction convention), because I bought it at the 2005 Wiscon and did large chunks of it at the 2005 and 2006 Wiscons.

Yes, it was definitely pretty, but didn't want to behave.
