In an interview in the issue that came out this week of the japanese magazine ぱふ (it's a magazine that does interviews with mangaka etc), they interviewed Hino-sensei about Vampire Knight, and asked the inevitable question, which I translated it for you below...:
"So, you've said before that you started Vampire Knight with the ending already all set in your mind. Could you tell us how close to the end the story is?"
And she replied:
"We're roughly near the end of the first part of the series, and I planned two parts."
