I made this afghan for a friend of mine. She has a 'patriotic room' and asked me to make her a blanket for it. I used the wide checkers stitch from the Crochet Bible, and I Love This Yarn in old glory ombre for the body and Red Heart Sport in white for edging. ( Oh say can you see... )I also joined Ravelry. I'm bluehwys over there, too. :) ETA: It's about 47" x 57".

After seeing a few questions pop up about sizes, I went through my bookmarks and pulled these together. Some are hat links, others are quick guides to sizes, and at least one invites you to start small fires Afghan Sizes: a quick reference guide to measurements for common afghan sizes and the number of squares needed to reach that minimum size Modern Flapper Hats: roughly a dozen variations on the classic flapper style hat, updated for modern fashion trends, includes a basic crown pattern that can be adapted for beanies, slouch hats, etc. Crocheted Adult Hat Links: exactly what the name says, hasn't been updated since 05, so some links are likely broken Simple Circle Tutorial: basic tutorial for forming a circle worked with spiraling single crochet, links to other basic shapes along left-hand side
Head Huggers Pattern List: crochet, knit and fabric patterns for adult and children's hats, take a look at the homepage for the story behind the organization and how to donate a hat for those experiencing chemo-related hairloss Chez Crochet's Living Room: provides tutorials for variations on the basic sc, hdc, dc, and tr, as well as some design patterns, useful once you have the basic stitches down and want a little bit of a challenge Hat Sizes: sizes for hats from newborns and preemies to adult men Fiber Content: a reference guide to figuring out that unknown yarn in your stash through setting a small sample on fire How Much Yarn?: PDF from Lion Brand with suggestions of how much yarn is required in what weight for common projects

I'm hoping someone here can help me identify the yarn I'm using for this project! My mother always buys several of the grab bag yarn selections at craft stores for Christmas, and I used this particular yarn to start a baby blanket for a co-worker. I think I'll have enough to make a blanket, but I'd really feel more comfortable with another skein or two. Since the bag only came identified as "1lb of 100% acrylic" I don't know where to find more! It's, as I said, an acrylic, but a nice, soft, springy acrylic. It's worsted weight, and six skeins made up a pound, so probably 2.5oz skeins. It's a colorway with a lovely cream, taupe, and blue/lavender switch, each only about 4-5 inches of the yarn, so the colors shift very quickly. ( pictures below the cut )Any help you can give me would be very appreciated!

Heya! Years ago, before I ever attempted to crochet, I used to receive face washers and tea towels from a family friend that had a crocheted edge. I've also seen these for sale at markets. I would love to know how to do it but my "how to" google search has come up all but empty except for links like : http://craftblog.com.au/2008/07/16/crochet-tea-towel-edging-tutorial/This instructs that you crochet the edge free of the towel/washer and later sew it on but I'm sure (?) that our friend used to crochet it straight onto the fabric. Does anyone know how to or of any instructions for edging that I don't have to sew on later? Thanks a bunch!

:) Hello! This is my first time posting a project I completed! ^--^ It's a pink bear purse!...with bows, frills, and rose colored cheeks! I'm hoping to make a big batch of them and sell them on etsy. Being a poor college student, I'm hoping if these sell I'll have some extra cash so I can afford my own groceries instead of my parents helping out all the time :( T___T I'm so thankful for them... What do you guys think? <3 I'm very excited about how it turned out :) ( Can't go wrong with too much pink! )

I made a comment in my last post that I wanted to whip up a pair of Hobbit baby booties for my little one (because I'm totally not going to foist all of my fandoms on her before she's old enough to sit up... *shifty eyes*...) but the best pattern I found was a knitting pattern, and... well... I don't knit. The booties were so cute that I almost considered buying one of those "Teach Yourself To Knit!" kits they have at the craft store, but then I started thinking that it couldn't be too difficult to knock something together with a basic crochet booty pattern and some fun fur yarn. And so a couple balls of yarn and a bout of insomnia gave me these: ( More details and pattern under here ) Current Mood: chipper

so I crocheted it a 'domo' sweater.... ( Read more... )this was very much by the seat of my pants. All in sc, and I have no idea what the yarns are, they were my mother's. The face was embroidered on after. Crocheted all in one piece, making things up as I went along. Current Music: athletics v. red sox

I read about using tennis tape to make your hook more comfortable for use but I didn't really like how it felt. I decided to try out something that I have been thinking about for a long time: using those things that slide over a pencil to make the hooks more comfortable to use. So anyway here is how they look now, after their $2 makeover: I posted about it on my blog here: Red Paper Umbrella but its a pretty self explanatory, easy process: wrap masking tape around hook, slide comfort grip thingy over it. I used 2 grips per hook so that the whole handle would be covered but if you had to make one package go a long way you could probably just use 1 per hook. I was wondering if anyone has any free patterns for unusual projects. I guess I'm just looking for some out of the ordinary stuff. I've looked for things on ravelry, but most interesting things turn out to be knitting projects. Also, if anyone has any ideas for something to make to decorate a college dorm I would love to hear them. And some stuff I've made... ( Summer has left me with far too much time on my hands. ) Current Mood: creative
