| About: | This is a community for lj users to list notices for pets which may have gone missing or which may have turned up as strays. If you are trying to find a lost pet, I strongly suggest that you post a recent picture of the animal along with a description of any particular features that might make the pet easily recognizable. Offering a small reward for the return of the pet is quite often a good way to stimulate responses for your posting. Keep in mind that local newspapers will frequently post lost and found notices at not charge. Take advantage of such services. For a small fee, there may be a pet finder service in your area as well. Also, posting flyers in and around your neighborhood within days of the loss of your pet is critical. Keep checking your local pound. Most shelters put animals down within 72 hours, so if your pet is impounded, it doesn't have much time to be reclaimed. Return frequently. If you have lost a purebred or a valuable exotic pet, also consider checking with local authorities and/or pet stores. If the pet has been stolen, the thief may try to sell the animal. Time is of the essence, so don't let this community be your only avenue for trying to find your pet. Use every tool at your disposal to find your critter, including pounding the pavement in and around the neighborhood. Sometimes an animal hasn't gone far.
