| About: | One day (actually, reckoned from date of writing, yesterday), some fanwankers were bitching and sighing about the difficulties of getting unreserved feedback. Someone suggested that it would be nifty to create a community for the purpose -- and not merely for concrit, which can be found in many places, but for criticism offered in the . . . uh, earthy style of (for example) Fandom Wank. Because, while some of us like our crit to be unflaggingly polite, others among us don't really give a damn if it's polite or not so long as we can use it. And we know that both taking it and dishing it out can be more fun when it's done without worrying about feelings. The idea, then, is this: Critique Without Lube is a place where you can bring your fanfic, regardless of fandom (and your original fiction, if you like, too!), and offer it up for criticism, which will in turn be offered up however people damn well please. There are no requirements here for crit to be polite, or refrain from mockery. Recap: this means that you may say what you please about a fic someone has offered up for critique, but it also means that if you offer up your fic, you should expect the same treatment. That's not to say that there's any requirement to be harsh or mocking, and definitely not that the idea here is to create a giant catfight/pit of wank/whatever -- the idea is to get feedback we can use; we just want to have fun while we do it. Warning concluded. People bitch about the cruelties of GAFF. People bitch about unkind reviewers, often whether said reviewers happen to be spot-on or not. People, every day in the fandom, bitch about other people not liking their fics. Well, don't do it here, because the whole point of this community is to voluntarily surrender our fics to public disembowelment -- for both the improvement of our writing and our own entertainment. We're masochists who also like to snark. Keep that in mind.Please note that we criticise fics of all ratings here. Authors are required to mark their fics with a rating and any squicks, so please use the information they provide to read responsibly. Penetration Requirements 1) Please post at least one critique before you submit something to be torn apart, and continue to post at least one critique for every submission. This is to keep the community alive: we're all hungry for pain, we know, but we've got to keep the unhealthy cycle going. 2) Stories should be under Lj-cuts to spare friends lists and the demons of non-highspeed connections. 3) Stories should include, above Lj-cut some basic info like a) a rough rating (required) b) for the benefit of the snarky with sensitive eyes, potential squicks such as rape, pedophilia, torture, BDSM etc (required) c) fandom d) title e) length and f) brief summary. 4) We recommend that people F-lock original fics to avoid nasty "prior publishing" issues later on.
