Statement of Purpose

This community is for lovers of fantasy writing - a place for those that write original fantasy to find people to beta read their stories. It is also for sharing writing tips, writing articles and general writing information, along with discussions about various aspects of writing (plot, dialogue, characters, world-building, etc.).
Notice: Please remember that LiveJournal allows members of 13 years of age and older. While we understand that some fantasy may involve sexual elements, please refrain from posting heavily erotic stories in the community.

This community was created to:

Help people find others to be a (possibly permanent) beta reader/writing buddy.

Monthly contests, challenges and writing prompts.

Giving critiques for writing.

Giving tips for how to improve your writing.

Finding people to co-write with.

Signing Up

Joining this community is easy if you just follow the steps:

Read the Rules and General information listed further down on this page.

If you agree with the posted rules, apply for membership.

After being accepted to the community, please post a basic introduction (preferrably within a week of joining). There are basic and expanded templates listed further down on this page.

Please go to the web site and register. Once you've done that, start submitting your beta info.

Start participating in the discussions, polls, and anything else we may be doing. This is a place where we want your opinion, too, not just the moderators.

General Rules and Information
The Moderators reserve the right to change the rules at any time, any major changes will be posted to the community as notice. Anyone not following the rules will be asked to make the appropriate changes, or will be removed from the community if changes are not made.

This community is only for fantasy writing. If you don’t write in the fantasy genre, this place isn’t for you. There are plenty of other communities for other genres, or you could start your own.

Please remember that most members of this community would someday like to publish their fantasy works. Try to keep this in mind when reading writing by community members - any members caught stealing writing, or ideas from other members will be reported and banned. All writing posted to either the website or to the community is copyrighted to those members.

The web site for Creative Fantasy can be found HERE. Please remember to register after you've been accepted into the LJ! Remember! You will not automatically be able to post writing to the website after registering. For security reasons all "registered" members of the site will be considered before being granted "Author" status. This process may take up to a week. If you feel you have waited longer than a week to be granted "Author" status - please contact the Site Admin - cherith.

The Fantasy Wiki - Is a Wiki created by the Creative Fantasy community members about Fantasy. All users/contributors are welcome to add things to the Fantasy Wiki. You do NOT have to be a registered member of the site to contribute to the Wiki. You can find the Fantasy Wiki from the Creative Fantasy website, but clicking the Fantasy Wiki link on the left side bar on the front page. Once a month a Wiki "catch-all" post will be made to the community. In that catch-all a topic will be posted, and community members will post comments related to the topic, our Site Admin will transfer comments and ideas to the Wiki. This ensures that even if you're unfamiliar with wikis, you can still contribute.

Please keep all your posts, on topic. That is about writing, or about fantasy in general. Off topic posts will be removed.

Please refrain from adverstising your other LJ communities or websites within Creative Fantasy. If you believe you have a site that other users might be interested in, please notify a Moderator, and we can add it to the list of Affiliates or the list of links on the website. People that join CF to spam advertising will be removed.

If you do need to make a post with writing to the community, to ask a question or garner feedback, please use an LJ cut to trim longer entries. If you are unfamiliar with LJ cuts, please review the LJ FAQ. To use an LJ cut, input < lj-cut="your text here" >Your story here < /lj-cut > and remove the spaces after each < and before each >.

If you have a writing community or something to do with writing, such as a site for writing that isn't an LJ (or a seperate LJ for writing than the one you joined the community with) you can submit it to cherith and she will place it in the list of links which will be posted on the site.

When a new member joins either the site or community, encourage them and make them feel at home by welcoming them.

This is not a fanfiction community. While there are many fandoms that participate in the fantasy genre, this is not the community for such writing. Writers posting works of fanfiction will be removed.

While this community is primarily about fantasy writing, there may come a time when you'd like to post a picture to the community. When posting artwork, please remember that artists reserve rights to their art, just like writers. If you do not know the name of the artist, please do not use or post that artwork. If you have any questions about free/common use or copyright law, please read this entry.
