YOU ALL INSPIRE ME! [13 Jul 2008|04:49am]

steppie
Hi [info]creative_spaces!

So, it's been about a week or so since my last post (found here: http://community.livejournal.com/creative_spaces/78397.html), but I got an outstanding amount of positive feedback on the canvases I had painted for my room & was frequently asked if I had artwork for sale.

I didn't at the time - but all of your positive feedback & encouragement has given me the drive to try it out! So, for the past week or so, I have been setting up shop at Etsy! I have a page full of new artwork - and a reproduction of the bird painting seen in my bedroom post still up for grabs!

"SERENE ESCAPE" (in aqua)

I'm really not here to try and advertise my shop, and, if anything, just wanted to make a post to share my appreciation for all of your positive feedback (I checked the info & it didn't specify that this wasn't allowed). So, in response to the individuals who asked if I had artwork for sale, and want to buy one to spice up your apartment or studio space, you can find my Etsy shop here:
http://www.steppie.etsy.com

I have had my shop up for less than a week, and I just celebrated my first sale two nights ago! In honor of my first sale, I wanted to thank the people that helped me jumpstart into this new love. So, I am offering all members of [info]creative_spaces a special treat! If you see something you like in my shop & would like to purchase it (or would like custom work done), please comment to this entry & let me know what you are interested in. Do that, and I will give you $5 off a minimum purchase of $20!

Though my new obsession is with Etsy shops, it all started with my obsession with LiveJournal and all its welcoming, beautiful, and CREATIVE decor communities. Thank you for being so gracious and inspiring. I hope to hear from you soon!

xoxo,
Steppie

Take a peak. [02 Jul 2008|01:51am]

So, as of today, I have 21 more days until I need to move out of my apartment. I'm having a hard time moving all my things, and dealing with the idea of letting go of everything considering I'll be moving back in with my parents. I like to call it detachment anxiety.

But while that's something I can deal with on my own time, thought I'd document some photos of my room currently. Sorry it's a bit messy, but I hope you enjoy the photos!

I've probably posted this before, but I changed some stuff around, upgraded the desk and curtain, etc.

This is my sewing nook, which is tucked into a little space between a wall and my refrigerator in my kitchen! It actually works out quite well. :)

My Studio [23 Jun 2008|08:05pm]

Hello
I am new to Live Journal, and new to this group - but I thought I would post a video of my new studio.

I have always worked in a very small space - but I like that as it means that everything is handy. I carefully paid attention to where was the most useful and easy place to have every tool - and set up my studio so that it works for me. As you can see I have a lot of tools an implements - that's because I am an enamelist. I have made all of the benches and tables myself (except the desk with my computer) and they are ergonomically friendly. Since I often spend 10 hours at a stretch sitting at them this is important!  I hav also made them reasonably small (except for the long shipping table in the first shot) as I have a tendency to fill the available space with clutter - the smaller the available space - the less clutter! I have to be very disciplined to keep the shipping table clear. I have just come from a basement space which was about the same size as this in terms of floor space (12 x 12) but it was grey, had no windows and low ceilings. It has been a delight being here (it is in Mirvish Village in Toronto - which is a nice arts friendly neighbourhood right downtown which is the legacy of a local eccentric billionaire.)

I look forward to sharing ideas with others about their creative spaces!

Does your space get you motivated? [22 Jun 2008|01:19pm]

Big question for you all. Does your space motivate you to create?

I loooooooooove to paint/draw/etc. The problem is, I have been sooooooooooooo unmotivated to do it. In the year that I've lived in this apartment I've probably ONLY finished about 5 paintings. I have another 20 or so that are half done. Sad huh? I need to make my "art space" more inviting, and Im thinking of moving my "art space" into my bedroom. (Right now its in a small space off the living room). When Im in my bedroom I feel more inclined to paint/draw, so Im thinking of just moving my table in there. Have any of you moved your creative space into your bedroom? Did this help/hurt your creative-ness? And BIG question, how do you stay motivated to draw, write, create, sew, etc... or.. What gets you motivated?

Hello all :}
I'm sure being visual people, many members here are also quite addicted to right-click-save~ing lots of inspiring/reference photos from other LJ communities & around the web.

I'm very guilty of this too, and I have quite a large collection, semi-non-chaotic. I'm curious as to how you keep all of the pictures you save organized :[ It's become quite a hassle to try to go back and find something, but I cant stop saving. (the first step is admitting you have a problem!)

So, how do you do it? Also, rip-outs from magazines and the things you print out. I have a 3 ring binder full but its not organized.. HELLPPP!!!

Just finished off. [02 May 2008|04:26pm]

Aaaaand finally.

My brackets arrived today (good old EBay I don't half love you) and my shelves are up.  I did it all on my own too, and they're level!  My Dad and Brother are both expert joiners, Hubby is a carpenter, so I have no excuse for not being able to wield a power drill.  I love it, the walls are a bit empty looking, but I'll put up pictures over the next few weeks, and there will be STUFF, and CLUTTER that always finds its way beck eventually.

Anyway here's a pic.  I'm going to drink coffee and eat biscuits now, my back HURTS like hell and all I want to do is sit and cuddle the cat for a bit.

Shelving.  I rock, I am all that is woman and more.

Coming out of lurkdom... [01 May 2008|05:53pm]

[ mood | happy ]

I was so inspired by this community that I whined at my hubby until he agreed to let me have the spare room all for myself.  He has another room for his stuff too though, so we're both happy.

I finished redecorating, just some shelves to go up now, and more pictures to be put on the walls, it looks a bit empty.   I thought I'd photograph it and show it off whilst it's still tidy, and before I fill it with junk. Click on the images to see larger versions.

Cute desktop wallpapers to compliment your creative space! [17 Apr 2008|10:07am]

rocketbox
Hey everyone! I thought this may be of some relevance.

Being a crafter myself, I know how important a creative and stimulating working space can be. And even though it is a virtual space, my laptop is as much of a working space as my craft table... so why not have creativity, colour and cuteness extend to it? I always seem to be on the hunt for cute desktop wallpapers, so I started compiling a directory of those that appeal to me most! You can view and download them all at desktopcandy.blogspot.com.

If they are too sugary sweet for you, I also have links to other desktop resources which should help you to redesign your creative space in a more understated way. =)

Studio in Milwaukee [07 Apr 2008|12:09pm]

chunkypeaches
For a while I rented a studio space because I had a small label and was producing handmade clothing for a local shop. Then I got pregnant, lol. I decided to get rid of the studio, for obviouse financial reasons, and pack up and move this space into our large bedroom. Well, here is the old studio.
