Hope this type of post is allowed, I think this might dredge up some good information for the people in this community.
I've just drifted in today, and I'm so inspired by everyone's spaces, I'm quite sick with envy. I've been planning my own creative space for myself, but I prefer to not spend more than necessary, out of the principle of it all. So I'm here, being snoopy, and asking: how much have you all spent on your furniture, and where do you get it?
I can easily shop around for shelving, side tables, lamps, things like that. I've actually gotten some unfinished pine shelving that's perfect for my needs. But I'm looking for things like flat files and a drawing table, which all seem so expensive!
I also like the reduce/reuse/recycle thing. I've thought of going around to schools/universities/offices to see if they're getting rid of old furniture, since I absolutely adore old things, and 'lightly used' things. I don't know about all schools, but at least my old schools had gigantic, sturdy storage systems. I have found comparable ones in stores... but going for upwards of $800CAD each. Has anyone had any success finding things by asking around or just by luck?

| Just Ideas Now, But Oh The Ideas! |
[23 May 2009|11:55pm] |
Oh wow, I just found you guys when I was looking around for ideas. There's tons of inspiration here! Once my head is screwed on straight I'm going to have to take some pictures and ask for some advice, and see about using some of what's already posted as inspiration for my own creative space. Right now, well, my entire house is my creative space. IT makes for, well, a big mess everywhere.
Actually, I've been on the troll for some way to keep things under control, and I recently found something. Now that I've found this community I figured I'd share, since the rules seem to allow for sharing craft-area solutions and ideas. So I hope this is okay!
Honestly, http://www.theoriginalscrapbox.com has a couple of organizational pieces of furniture, but I think I like their Boxes are definitely their best selling point (aside from also being their main). They have three sizes of their boxes right now, so that makes it a bit easier for people with smaller spaces while still having the availability of really huge units for people with a ton of stuff like me, you know? XD
So if you have cash to burn, and really want to get your space organized, I definitely recommend checking them out. I'm going to try my best to save up for a CraftBox eventually, myself. When I do get it, I'll make sure to post a picture here!

| my little creative nook. |
[12 Mar 2009|08:26pm] |
living with the parents doesn't give too much room to be as creative with my space as i'd like, but i've managed to do what i can with the space that i do have. having a space dedicated to my crafting and art is way more awesome than painting on the floor with a bunch of newspaper.
so yay!
{ the little nook in my bedroom }
now dedicated to my crafting & art!

new addition to the art studio!
i snagged this from the laboratory at my part-time desk-job gig during remodeling there - it's an old solid wood test-tube drying rack. or is i call it, embroidery-thread-holder. LOVE! i've recently split my art studio into 2 halves to keep it neat and organized (and to keep the yarn out of the oil paints), so this is now hanging over my 'sewing' desk. happy happy!

| Two years and a month or so later... |
[12 Jan 2009|09:07am] |
Hi Folks, So I posted WAY BACK WHEN on November Twenty Eighth Two Thousand and SIX!! We had just moved into our apartment in Somerville MA and I was in the (long) process of setting up my studio - we've now been there for over two years and I'm finally getting things the way they need to be for me to be most productive and most creative.

| sewing room redo project! |
[10 Jan 2009|03:49pm] |
well, when we moved the living room around a couple of weeks ago, we sort of just tossed my sewing area back together on the other side of the room... i decided today was a good day to fix it. eventually when we move (june/july) and i hopefully have an even larger space to work with, i'll do more with the walls and add a cool victorian style chair, and buy a new work table and chair. but for now, this will have to do. i organized EVERYTHING today, dug out some little bowls to hold small things like buttons and trims, and purchased a neato birdcage (and bird) to hold my ribbon spools. you can also see the 2nd half of a quilt i'm in the midst of, ontop of the table (the 1st half is hanging on the wall to the right...).
and just fyi, you can see my two blogspot inspiration posts: http://littlebrooke.blogspot.com/2009/01/inspiration.html & http://littlebrooke.blogspot.com/2009/01/cupcakes.html
okay, onto the photos.... [click each photo to see it larger]

This studio has been in the works for about 5 months and it's finally finished. It is only incredibly clean in the photographs because I took them right after we put the last finishing touches on the room - it definitely didn't stay that clean for long.

My boyfriend is a silk screener, I am a book binder, and this is our studio:
