Still, saw some familiar faces, including friends from Gaeilge class. Tried to turn them over to the Gàidhlig dark side. Hey,
tjuice, where art thou? We looked and did not find you.
Be nice to your children they'll be picking your nursing home someday...

Does anyone know of an inexpensive, low-frills financial tracking program for the blackberry?
As much as I love banking with wells-Fargo, their phone and email tracking sucks hardcore.
When I was living right mext to my bank in Uptown, I never had trouble keeping track of my cash and never overdrafted. Now that I'm always on the go and the nearest bank requires a walk like a cross between "Frogger" and crossing the Gobi desert, it's a lot harder and I'm sick of financial surprises.

Geek love is:
A nonchalant "I gave you more RAM" while handing me a homebrewed burbon stout and playing filk about superheros and supervillians that he thinks I'll like.

A guy who spends two nights in a row scrubbing down the kitchen and making dinner while I prep for travel.
And then not only understands but encourages me to throw money into making my kit presentation more streamlined and professional.
"The black shows that you're professional, while the rhinestones show you're fab without being over-the-top".
A girl could get used to this.

After my first couple of runway shows, I started kicking around the idea of recruiting assistants. It would save me and my clients time and help things run more smoothly if I had someone washing my brushes and doing basic foundation. of course I am very exacting when it comes to application and sanitary procedure, so I would have to train assistants to my standards before I let them touch my kit or models.
I was nervous about training in my competition when I was.newer. Now that I've got more experience, I'm still nervous, but now that I'm working larger shows, I'm thinking about it again (I'll have about 19 models to do this show which gives me 20-some minutes a face, luckily I've been put to the test like this before) . I'd rather have a crew of my own than have one assigned to me when they may not have the right skills or training. I've seen far too many "makeup artists" who were just friends of someone in the show, whipping out their own dirty kit and using "creativity" to try and distract from poor application. But I was still unsure about assembling my own team.
Then I spoke to one of the models I work for. Vas told me I need to suck it up and start delegating authority. That there are new people in the field who would love the experience of assisting me. And that I need to get over the idea that I'd be training competition because that undervalues my work and I need better self-esteem. "You're a name brand now. Why would someone buy the knockoff if they can buy Gucci?" she then mentioned that the people who would go for my knockoff are not the people I would be wanting to work with anyway. .
Minions, I need minions.

...from people who are more established in a work field. I was talked out of getting a large train case as much as the drawers tempted me and talked into a Zuca bag and investing in palletes to condense my products instead.
Seriously, this bag is AWESOME. I can't wait for it to get here. I ordered the sport which I could customize more than the pro (I got the black quilted one with a black frame), and which has a dual-wheel system that can roll up stairs and curbs. If that wasn't enough, it has a seat (and I ordered the cushion for it) Now I just need a bunch of rectangular clear vinyl bags to stuff inside it. I plan to order the backpack and the cover as soon as I can afford them. But right now, this is a bag that will travel better than my current one.
Check it out!

...For people who think it's a good idea to move into a 3rd floor apartment with small children. I'm going crazy, living on the edge of a migraine and getting wrinkles from the stress of sleep-dep. The kids are just being kids and playing and walking heavy. The parents are fucking morons for not looking for a first-story apartment and placing them above the master bedroom of the apartment below (mine). This alone is enough to make me support year-round school.

I do my makeup on the bus, because with my sleep issues getting another half-hour of shuteye is a big deal.
I was just doing it today and had my own cheerleader in the form of a guy that looked like an older beatnik with half his teeth missing. "I love your nails." "How do you do that?" "I don't know how you stay so steady...it would be all over my face." "See, that's what I mean right there!" "You should be one of those people who do makeup for other people." "You keep that makeup looking good now."
And now I get to go to the iPhone release and hand the line of geeks samples of soap and perfume.
Holy Shit! Wheeeeeeeeeeeee

I feel like I've been loaded into a trebuchet while hugging my kit and let loose on my industry. I feel like I'm still sailing through the air shouting "wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" and hoping for a soft spot to land.
In one day I have had one of Prince's backup dancers wanting me to do makeup for her at some point, had a friend mail me asking for my book for a MAJOR company, got an email from Blasphemina with plans for the next runway show, found that the amazing Josie Nutter (
http://www.modelmayhem.com/pics.php?id=1638 ) added me to her list of favorite makeup images, mentioned it to Vaslittlecrow who offered to introduce me to her while flying me out to Seattle to do makeup for a shoot. Then my boss for one of the cosmetic companies said that I'm "getting too fabulous for them" and wants to talk marketing with me at some point because she thinks I should charge about $900 a day more. Whew! All on 3 hours of sleep and a heap of adrenaline. Now I really need a martini.
So now I need to prep for the trip, which means rubbing pennies together to order this ASAFP so it can get here on time so my makeup can survive the flight.

sleep issues

Part of caring for my health is getting my sleep issues under control. This is harder now that I've lost my insurance. I sleep fine once I'm out, but I have a hell of a time getting to sleep. Especially in this apartment for some reason. It's 5:40 in the morning and I've been tossing and turning for hours and I know the second I get to sleep the kids upstairs will wake up and start making a ruckus. Luckily, I have the day off, but this gets troublesome when I don't, because if I have to get up without sleep, a migraine and a crash are usually in store.
I know I desperately need to build a collection of sleep masks to block out the parking lot light (as if I can find time to sew right now) and that I need to get both my and Meltedeyes' allergies under control (again, tough without insurance). Anyone have any other ideas? I'm getting desperate.

And usually quite random ones at that...like the 6 foot shiny cardboard cutout Indiana Jones display that I found set up in the living room as a gift. I think I might relocate him to my studio before Cat the Younger chews him up.
