When you don't actually work with cocky author, thus can freely ridicule said author
Please feel free to delete if not appropriate...

Chick with spelling error in username posts on a Boston forum that she's "been published," provides link to vanity press site, vanity press site has previews of her book, book is full of spelling errors, bunch of people make fun of her, she calls everyone assholes, says everyone is just jealous of her, insists that "this is not English class."

EDITED: Aw, she deleted the post!

The book itself is still pretty funny. (She told me that she did NOT spell "Copy Right" incorrectly. She just put a space in it, and spaces are not spelling.)

Unfortunately, the entry has been deleted. Too bad--it sounded very funny!

Yep. Grr.

Do you think she'll delete her journal, too? *giggle*

Actually, Lulu isn't a vanity press. It's a POD site.

The practical difference is nil. Pay-to-publish fiction is "vanity press."

The only difference (an important difference legally, but no difference in terms of publishing whuffie) is that people who get their books printed by Lulu are their own publisher, not victims of some scammy "publisher" who may steal rights from them and charge them beaucoup bucks.

This, however, does not change the fact that the book was self-published, which in the fiction world is viewed with scorn and derision. The term "vanity published book" is a perjorative at the author, not the printer.

(Please note: I like Lulu, and support their business. They are honest, and make a product of decent quality for a reasonable price.)

Umm...what? *shakes head*

I hate the fact that I missed the entry, but the link to the book made up for it. I don't know what made my eyes bleed more; the oh-so-emo, error-ridden poetry or the amateurish design. (I'm an editor and an artist, so I'm really cranky.)

Nice icon. :o)

Yeah, several of the people on the b0st0n forum (it has 2000 members or something) were also alluding to having writing/editing/design backgrounds. The awful layout was mentioned more than one. As usual, the poster continued to assume that everyone on the internet is 15 and couldn't have more background in anything than she does.

I've read some excellent self-published poetry. Lordy, this is not it.

Yep. HEE.

Some people on the b0st0n forum (who are usually mature and respectful people, which makes it even more hilarious) are googling her and having a ball with the findings. She's just so blatantly upfucked that I don't feel guilty having a little schadenfreude fun with her.
