I have not had too much of a chance to do anything really crafty, let alone really gothy lately. However, since Spring and Summer arrived, we have been trying to fix up our wild, overgrown yard. When we first looked at the house, there was a birdbath in the center of the yard. I was very excited, for some reason I always wanted a garden with a birdbath. Well, when we closed on the house and got the keys, we ran right over...someone had taken the little birdbath. Whether it was someone from the family of the previous owner or just someone feeling its OK to take things from empty houses, I don't know. As time went on all the birdbaths I saw and liked were a bit too expensive for the time being for me to splurge on.
So, one day I was wandering through the clearance aisle at Home Goods, and I found this TALL candlestick pillar holder for $5, and then a shallow wooden serving bowl for $5. I scooped them up, brought them home, and proceeded to epoxy the bowl on top of the pillar. I then spraypainted it with paint we had stored away, its the type where you lay down a black base and then put on a coat that shimmers in the light from a greenish glitter to blueish-purple. So, now I have a small handmade-one-of-a-kind birdbath for $10 plus on-hand materials.:)

Also, as many of you who love beads and jewelrymaking probably do, I love FireMountain Beads and get an email newsletter from them, and today I received this about these teenaged girls who are trying to rescue children, I thought it was a noble cause to share, you can read the article at this link if you are interested. It seems like a good thing when kids are willing to go to such lengths in the name of helping other children, gives me hope.
