I don't know where I'm at

  • Jul. 20th, 2008 at 12:41 AM
I'm single.

I'm not working full time.

I'm childless.

I'm still living at home.

I don't have a contract cell phone.

I don't have my own business.

I'm not supposed to play the only working CD player in the house that isn't Louie's because, and I quote, I might wear out the battery in the remote before my mother gets to use it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where the Hell am I???

Where am I going?

I feel more lost and lonely than I've ever felt in my life and I see no end in sight.

Horrible...

  • Jul. 20th, 2008 at 3:23 PM
That's ... Dr. Horrible of course. I've been in bed since yesterday, so I finally clicked on the Dr. Horrible link I've seen on everyone's LJ. It was really quite charming. This is the first Whedon thing I've ever seen, save for the one horrible episode of Buffy that I was made to watch on the pretext that I'd LUUUUURVE it. I didn't.

The songs were catchy, the sets and costumes were adorably cheesy, but what made me watch all three episodes was Neil Patrick Harris. He's lovely. And there was *something* about him that totally reminded me of [info]nintendoug. Which I hope he takes as a compliment - because it's meant as one!

XXXXX[10:19 P.M.]: did you guys see the house?
"Sandy" [10:19 P.M.]: It's so lovely.
"Sandy" [10:19 P.M.]: It's not pristine, it would have been sold if it was
"Sandy" [10:20 P.M.]:
It needs work but it's comfortable and roomy and the landlord is fabulous
"Sandy" [10:20 P.M.]:
I asked if she minded me putting up a clothesline for diapers, she asked if I ever heard of EC
"Sandy" [10:20 P.M.]:
I asked how many ticks there were, she suggested I free range the chickens
"Sandy" [10:21 P.M.]: She asked about my goals for raising chickens, I told her I wanted to breed an endangered breed of chickens and she looked very pleased.
"Sandy" [10:21 P.M.]:
I asked if she eats chicken, she said "with gusto".
"Sandy" [10:22 P.M.]:
She's an artist, does pottery and has a kiln (LOCKED UP) on the premises.
"Sandy" [10:22 P.M.]:
I asked if I could garden and she pointed me at a *HUGE* side lawn.
"Sandy" [10:22 P.M.]: I asked where would be good to let the kids play, she's going to fence in a safe area for the little ones to play next to the house.
"Sandy" [10:23 P.M.]:
Next to the area that is fenced in for the other tenant's incredibly friendly dogs.s
"Sandy" [10:23 P.M.]:
She has recommendations for a local naturopath, family practice doctor and chiropractor.
"Sandy" [10:23 P.M.]:
There's a farmer's market and an independently owned coffee shop and a bagel store with free wifi all nearby.
"Sandy" [10:24 P.M.]:
She is polite and friendly and put Eva in her place kindly but firmly a couple of times.
"Sandy" [10:25 P.M.]:
The schoolbus stops on the CORNER, right outside the house.
"Sandy" [10:25 P.M.]: The kitchen is HUGE and has counters and cabinets allll around.
"Sandy" [10:25 P.M.]:
Double sink, large fridge.
"Sandy" [10:26 P.M.]:
Room for a portable dishwasher, but hers broke and wasn't replaced. Hall closet with working washer and dryer being left behind for us.
"Sandy" [10:26 P.M.]:
Fireplace with wood stove insert in the living room.
"Sandy" [10:26 P.M.]:
The room was warm but not unreasonably so, even though it was 95 out and only a box fan in the window.
"Sandy" [10:27 P.M.]: I'd have signed a lease today but she misplaced the lease and we misplaced the checkbook. LOL
"Sandy" [10:27 P.M.]:
Are we a pair or what?
"Sandy" [10:28 P.M.]: August 6 is the next informational meeting for the school. (Whose web site isn't loading tonight for some reason)
"Sandy" [10:28 P.M.]:
I'm waiting to see if I can attend a different time, that's not really convenient if the lease hasn't started.
"Sandy" [10:28 P.M.]:
We don't know when she's moving out yet, she guessed somewhere between Aug 6 and 16.
"Sandy" [10:28 P.M.]: We're waiting to hear back.

This week was Theater Camp at Selfridge. A team from Missoula Children's Theater comes every year to put on a play, and they have one week (20 hours) to do it. It's amazing what they can do in so little time and I was so proud of my kids that of course I cried. They were incredible! Except that one kid, aged ten or so, was jumping around the stage in celebration and just plain fell off...and sprained his arm. I felt so awful for him. Thankfully, though, his mom was right there and took care of him. It was the best week ever, I love theater camp week. If I get stuck with elementary or middle school I will totally be hiring them every damn year. So today was a 12-hour-day, then I got a flat tire. soo I didn't get home till 10:30 then me and my mom shared music for a while.

I hate the aftertaste of cereal.

Notice of Rating

  • Jul. 18th, 2008 at 11:49 PM
Finally heard back from the Post Office...
with a "Notice of Rating - Eligible"
My name is now on the register for the 3 post offices that I chose  - as a potential applicant.
I didn't do too bad. Scored an 82.7... Just needed a 70 to pass, and I didn't have any Veteran Points so I did it all on my own.
I probably could have done better had I practiced, but then again they do say it's as impossible to complete the test, as it is to actually get 100%.

I feel like yuck tonight. Too much coffee, and I'm tired but awake but tired but awake and my body is telling me to fuck off.

~love to all~

We've elected to stay home and can the trip. Too many uncertainties re: my mood/pain levels today. We made the right choice. I'm recuperating in bed, though still experiencing a lot of pain. Luke's filling his tummy with Island Bay saussages and whitebait fritters and brewing cider. I'm rather gutted to not be on the road, but relieved at the same time. Cozy and warm with the cats as Luke buzzes and hums around the place, being a happy chappy.

Oh, funny quote overheard from tv just now, "Humility isn't actually humility unless you're good enough at something to actually be humble."

We decided to do a little bit of redecorating and put the dryer in the livingroom.

Actually, it's been doing silly things so we put it in the livingroom to take it apart and see if we could figure out what was up. There wasn't any apparent problem, so we're doing a test run in here to see if the problem continues. So far so good, hopefully cleaning it out did the trick.

The altfriday5 is cooking!

  • Jul. 18th, 2008 at 4:19 PM
From the [info]altfriday5:

1. Do you like to cook? If so, what?
I do now! Mostly because I discovered awesome cookbooks :)
I like to cook pasta! And chicken dishes :)

2. If you do like to cook, have you always or when did you start? If you don't like to cook, have you tried it without success or simply never gotten into it, or ...?
I just started to like cooking. I just hated how much time it takes. But now we've gotten into the habit of spending Friday night as I cooking night. We can take our time and make awesome dishes :)

3. What's the most ambitious-for-you dish you've ever prepared? How'd it come out?
Hmmm I'm mostly helped out with the ambitious dinners...
It was a dish with mussels that I made...It turned out ok...not the greatest..and I'm horrible with timing :(

4. Have there been fears, hesitations, or items of squeamishness you've struggled with in cooking?
hmmm not yet...just a fear of burning things! LOL

5. If you could learn to prepare one food perfectly the way you like it every time, what would it be?
Sushi! :D

Dear Head,

Seriously? An entire week? You feel the need to assault me for an entire week? I've been good to you, haven't I? I wear glasses pretty much all the time so as not to strain the eyes. I get plenty of sleep at night. I keep my mind stimulated. I wash you; I scratch you; I make you pretty.

And yet you repay me with pain and pressure. I don't understand it. I've tried many different pills, peppermint oil, rest, elevating my feet, ice packs, hair pulling, and facial massage, but there is no relief. No relief.

Please, I beseech you, leave me be. Give me a break. Take leave of my corporal form.

Thank you for your attention to this request.

Love,
Brigid

Further iTunes news....I was surprised to see that I hadn't listened to "I Who Have Nothing" since March 17th of this year. A lot has changed since then, hasn't it?

Back then, I was still at For Love, still employed full-time, still miserable and crying all the time about work (that part hasn't changed, entirely, now has it?). I had no time for anything that I wanted to do, ever.

Plus, I hadn't yet really discovered the love that is David Cook. March 17th, let's count back, that was about what? Top 10? I'm not that great at math but somewhere in and around there.

But, wow. I mean, I used to listen to this song day in, day out, in the car, on my iPod, everywhere, I played that song.

So it's weird to me that it had been so long since I'd played it.

Playing with iTunes....

  • Jul. 18th, 2008 at 2:28 PM
According to iTunes, I have listened to "Hey There, Delilah" fourteen times. It seems like many, many more times than that since last summer when I was on vacation from work and Louie was in California and my mom and I heard it in the van on the way back from taking him and I remarked how much I liked the song.

Of course, I did hear it EVERY day, multiple times, at every job I've had since that one, including where I am now, but still. Only fourteen?

That said, I do not think that "Hey There, Delilah" is good enough to be in my Top 25 Most Played songs. There are classics there such as "I Who Have Nothing" and "Beautiful Disaster", plus a couple of Sarah McLachlan and Justy songs.

So I figured, why not just play all the songs that have one less play count than "Hey There, Delilah" once each, and then play something else (DAVID!!) a couple of times so it boots Delilah right outta there. Is this wrong? I don't think it's wrong at all.
