Hi everyone! It's time to post your entries for challenge 4: Mirror, Mirrior on the Wall and If You Took the 'r' Outta Shirt, it'd Say... I hope you all had fun with these challenges. And hopefully we can get a few posts up. I'd love to see what you all came up with. I myself, still gotta take pics of the shirt a recon'd. (I barely bought some new batteries for the cam today.) And I should have a new poll up by the end of the night. Thanks!

Okay, so here are the results of the poll:

Crafty Challenge 4a: Mirror, Mirrior on the Wall - Craft your own mirror! (i.e. deocrate a mirror how you see fit. It can be a compact mirror, hand held, cabinet mirror, full length, rear view, whatever!)

Crafty Challenge 4b: If You Took the 'r' Outta Shirt, it'd Say... - Well, you know! Now's the time to reconstruct that awesome shirt you bought last year that just doesn't seem to fit right anymore! Reconstruct a shirt how ever you see fit.

Your entries will be due May 1st. That gives you about a week and some days. Hopefully that sounds okay. Also, I agree with Petatrons comment about there being around 60 members, and no one's really posting things. Maybe because the community has been so slow? I know that was the reason why I wasn't participating in any of the challenges. I'm trying to change that though! If anyone knows any members who haven't checked the comm. in awhile, do let them know we got the ball up and rolling again!

challenge 3b: Monster Mash!

felix, brice (brice is actually a cat, not a monster, however he's in this photo) and gerald.

This is felix, he's a fluff worm monster. made out of felt, corduroy (yes the same cord from my last challenge entry, i like it, i'm making the scraps last) and some fuschia craft fur i found in my stash. he has a button for an eye and a hand embroidered face.

he's approximately 42 cms long.

gerald is a ninja blob. also made out of the same craft fur and felt. he's about 18 cm high.

you can't really see in this photo because the flash made everything glow, but gerald's face is made out of a felt panel, that i sewed on and the i cut away the fur. once again hand embroidered.

and just for fun even though he's not a monster, but he's in the photo, its brice the cat. he's made out of cotton drill and has a felt hand embroidered face. he's also got some red decorative stitching across his stomach and on his leg.

so where is everyone else? theres about 60 members in this community and no one is posting anything? i want to see everyones challenge entries :D

Alrighty, so here's the new poll. I know we're behind on things, and I'm not quite sure how amphigori had the scheduling down on when the polls end when to start up new ones and all that. To make things a bit easier and to not get so behind on things, I think the poll when end Monday, and I'll announce the two challenges, as voted by you guys. And then the challenge entries will be due on May 1st. Does this all sound okay? On to the poll:

Okay, so we're a little late. Sorry about that. But you guys can now start posting up your entries for Craft Challenge #3! Just in Case and Monster Mash. I know this comm. has been kinda of slow, but hopefully we get a couple entries! If not, be sure to vote in the next poll (which will be up, right after I get done with this post) and hopefully we can get the ball rolling again. Thanks everyone!

Hey everyone. I've noticed that the site hasn't been updated in quite awhile. There's no new poll up for the next challenge. There also isn't a post up calling for the crafty entries for this weeks challenge. I'm not sure what happened to amphigori, who is the orginator of this community and the one who usually makes the posts/polls. Perhaps she's just busy. Just hope everything is okay.

Anywho, so I would like to see this community keep going. Hopefully you guys do too! I'd love to see what your creative, crafty brains can come up with for future challenges! So, until I'm able to get in contact with amphigori, I'll handle some of the posts for now. And should anyone have any questions, comments, sugesstions, and/or suggestions for future challenges, feel free to ask!

Challenge 2b: In the bag

My first bag! I used this tutorial and, even though I didn't quite understand how it would all magically come together when I pulled it right-side out I went with it, and was so surprised and excited when I did pull it right-side out and it did magically come together that I literally jumped out of my chair and did a happy dance right there in the kitchen. Complete with chanting. Lol!

I was going to go with a yellow lining to match the yellow states, but I think this pink lining goes better with the outside fabric overall.

The can is there for size. And it looks like the bag is leaning up against the plant, and it kind of is, but it also stands up on it's own pretty well. Yay for interfacing!

Sewing is so much more instantly gratifying than crocheting!

i made a clutch with some leftover corduroy that i had. its got a pink zipper to match the pink buttons and the lining fabric.

and theres the lining, a printed cotton remnant. i'm attempting to try and use my stash more.
i had a bit of trouble with the lining catching when i was doing the top stitching near the zipper. but you can't really notice it so its all good :D

Craft Challenge #1: Crafted from 100% recycled material.

Okay, being a mod, I hope I'm posting this right! We did agree that everyone can make posts of their completed projects right? If not, I'm gonna have to delete it myself! Anywho, so I decided to craft my project out of a piece of recyclable material: a soda can. I've really been into making rings lately, so I decided to make a ring. Check it out:

I started with a soda can, hacked off the top and bottom and cut down the middle so I could get a nice, flat sheet of aluminum.

I cut two small rectangles (one for the front and back)and then some small strips to lay on top one of the rectangles.

I just folded over the ends in the back.

I cut some strips of aluminum and weaved it in and out.

I cut out a little skull (that's missing a tooth! It broke off.) and a little doodad and glued them onto the front.

The ring back I made by cutting a strip of aluminum, folding it in off,fitting it around my finger (it ended up a little big) and then gluing the ends together.

I then just glued the back the the ring. Oh, and I glued that extra rectangle to the back of the frontside of the ring...if that made any kind of sense!

Happy Day – here’s our second craft challenge as voted by you:

Challenge 2a: Get felt up: 2-D or 3-D, it's up to you. But whatever you do, make it out of felt! Soft toys, iPod case, finger puppets... go nuts!

Challenge 2b In the bag: Tote, messenger or grocery - it's up to you. Try your hand at making a bag, purse or other similar item.

Community rules/posting guidelines up

Could everyone please take a peek at the rules and let me know if you're happy with them? Please note the rule about only letting the mods initiate posts. This came from a great suggestion that we show off our work as replies to a single 'call for challenge results' type posts. I thought it was a great idea that will keep things really tidy. I would really like your feedback.

The rules look long and involved but really they're not. :) We'll slide into our regular schedule next week when we post a poll for you to vote on our next week. The following week we'll post our new challenge as one post, and our call for chalenges as another. Lather, rinse, repeat. Easy!

Hope everyone's craft challenges are going swimmingly!

Crafty Challenge 1: due 20 March 08

Sorry for the delay - we're still finalising the rules and what not but I thought I'd post a challenge just so we can establish what will be our regular schedule. Chosen at random from a list of suggestions, your choices for this challenge are:

Challenge 1a: Craft something out of 100% recycled/reclaimed material
Challenge 1b: Craft something that was once hideous into something purdy!
Bonus holiday challenge 1c: Luck O'The Irish: Craft something for St Patrick's Day!

Please post your finished craft as a reply to the 'Crafty challenge 1: Call for completed crafts' post that will appear on March 20th.

Remember - you can follow these guidelines as rigidly or as loosely as you'd like, just so long as the finished product was inspired by the challenge.

Ok! Wow! Great responses so far. I'm really buzzy about this community. What a swell bunch of people you are.

First bit of news: call for mods is now closed. I'll get in touch with everone who has offered to help and we'll go from there. Thanks heaps to everyone who offered.

Second bit of news: As soon as the mods and I nut out the rules (based on your suggestions) we'll 'launch' the community and will post our first challenge. I want to achieve this ASAP - hopefully with our first challenge going out on this upcoming Thursday. I'm all out of projects and have no idea what to do next!

Request: I'd love your suggestions for what kind of userpic we should have for this community. I drew all my own icons but don't have any illustration software at the moment so I can't do a quick and dirty graphic for this site. I could hand-draw one but ... hey ... heh ... that could almost be our first challenge couldn't it? Create anything that would make a great icon for the community.

What do you think? Am I nuts? I kinda love the idea of a community with icons created by the community, rather than grabbed off the net. All I'd ask is that you put the word 'crafty challenge' on the icon. You'd get credit on the icon page with a link to your LJ. :)

This community will launch within the next week or so. Before we get going I'd like to ask would-be participants the following:

- I could use some help modding the community. If you're keen let me know.
- How often should we post a challenge. Weekly, bi-weekly, monthly?
- Should we vote on challenge subjects each week, or do you just want the mods to select and then you participate if you like the topic.

Any other 'wish list' suggestions would be great, I.E; photo size & lj cut guidelines/useage, etc ...

Look forward to getting this off the ground and seeing what you guys come up with!
