Few things in life teach lasting lessons pertaining to quick answers before thinking like promising to knit an item you've never done, not even for yourself, with a pattern that doesn't exist, and resembles a character you've never seen before.

Lesson. Learned.

Except that over the past four months I've learned a bunch of new techniques, which I know I can apply to other projects on hold for one reason or another, and the recipient looked very smashing in it.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Operation Faux! Seven made it's debut at CONvergence 2009 in Minnesota over the July 4th Weekend.

The recipient: Rob Callahan, sci-fi/fantasy writer, and all around great guy - who just happens to be my writing partner. I would not have done this for a douchebag.

It's called that because Time Lords have an infinite capacity for pretension. )

If you're on Ravalry, there are more as it happened pics here. Fee free to add me. I like meeting new people.

I'm trying to find a NZ pattern for fingerless gloves (that can also be extended to the elbow)?

I am specifically asking for a NZ pattern because both mum and I have had a lot of trouble figuring out the US patterns (it took about ten attempts to get the Converse Slipper to come out looking half-decent)

This is the only knitting place I'm a member of so I figure, why not ask the knowledgable ones first :)

Any help would be most appreciated, mostly because I would love to attempt the Tardis gloves I saw posted a while back :D

x-posted to [info]who_knits, apologies if you see it twice *d'oh*

With two weeks left to finish, I'm not in panic mode yet, but I did realize that I was going to need more Teal, and luckily they aren't made according to dye lots. However I'm fairly sure this will be done by July 1 - plenty of time to block and clean up any mistakes - I mean design enhancements.

New teeth. That's weird. So where was I? Oh, that's right --Barcelona! )

You're probably wondering why I'm posting it here. The person it's for knows I'm making it, but doesn't want to see it until it's done, and I need constant reassurance.

Sorry - it's a personality flaw.

So I wanted to give an update on the Operation Faux Seven! vest I was working on a few months back.

Because I suck at math, I got about 30 rounds in and discovered that unless he dropped 40 pounds and had several ribs crushed there was no way he was getting into that vest.  I found the husband and with big brown eyes welling with tears, I asked him to help me with the math. Men like to feel useful, even if it is knitting so he helped.

The new deadline is CONvergence in July and I'm well into the third repeat of the pattern.

As a refresher, this is knitted  in the round in a woven Fair Isle using Nashua Handknits Cilantro (70% Cotton/30% Polyester) on #8 24" circs in Wheat, Teal and Geranium. I *still*  think (ihopeihopeihope) it'll fit a 42-44R.  For obvious reasons I used a provisional cast-on (that lovely purple there) to begin and jumped right into the color work, figuring I didn't want to waste time with two inches of ribbing only to discover (yet again) that it wasn't going to fit.

Let's put this puppy behind a cut, shall we? )

So several months ago I said to my writing partner, "the vest that Seven wore? Sure I can knit that." I'm such a twit.

The blessed thing is due in two-an-a-half weeks.

I find that desperation and a deadline are not only a writer's best friend, but a knitter's a well.  I am knitting this organically, keeping track of my instructions and using the awesome motif as set down by the more than awesome [info]kadharonon as a guide.  It's been modified for the yarn, gauge, and needles.  If I need beta knitters, I'm pretty sure I won't need to go far.

I am doing this in Fair Isle using Nashua Handknits Cilantro (70% Cotton/30% Polyester) on #8 24" circs in Wheat, Teal and Geranium. I think (ihopeihopeihope) it'll fit a 42-44R.  The colorwork pattern I created takes twenty-five (25) rounds to complete, and I figure I'll need about six repeats. I'm on round 11, because my learning curve with woven Fair Isle and English knitting took a few rounds, not to mention the six hours of agonizing math.

Math - a knitter's Achilles Heel.

Wish me luck guys.  I'm averaging about thee rounds an hour (holy crap I never knew knitting English would be so dang quick) and I think I'll have have this significantly completed in a few weeks.

By the by, I've been watching this forum for a bit and I'm wicked impressed by all of your craftiness.  I'm a Four/Ten girl, and after many years of not watching, my writing partner got me hooked on the Doctor again.

Allons-y!

I don’t think I ever posted anything about this project on the comm before, but around Octoberish I started working on a Pinstripe TenScarf. (Although I should have done as it was being made for [info]lowc's Christmas present . . . and she’s not in this comm.)

I finally got around to typing up the pattern last week on my way home for Spring Break. I posted said pattern and pictures on my book/knitblog late Sunday night/early yesterday morning; it took me nearly two hours to finish the post—even though I'd already typed up the pattern—I think this is mostly because I'm not that used to working with Flickr. I pretty much only use it for Ravelry stuffs—and that’s just about dragging things from the bottom of the page to the happy photo box.

Here are some pictures! Yay for pinstripes! )

The pattern and more pictures can be found here.

Also . . . I've already had one message on Ravelry asking me to actually contribute the pattern to Ravelry’s pattern bank! ::FLAILS:: As such, I'd love any suggestions, etc. for rewording and/or making the pattern more clear before I add it to Ravelry. ::flails a bit more::

(Crossposted to [info]who_knits, [info]paxieamor’s crafting comm, and my personal journal. Apologies for any spamming of your flists.)

I came across a knitting pattern for a miniature TARDIS plushie at deathbycopyright.ca, and I happened to have the urge to finally try knitting it today, but I went to the site, and it was gone! :( Well, it's there, but all the content is gone.

Would someone here maybe have that pattern? Like, maybe you randomly saved it onto your computer? Cuz I'd love you forever if you could post it in the comments or e-mail it to me (suprocker[at]gmail[dot]com). Now that I can't find the pattern, I wanna try it out that much more! *facepalm*

Thanks for the help! :)

ETA: Here's a pic of how it turns out, if that helps someone recall the pattern/which pattern I'm talking about?

For those of you who crochet and are on Ravelry, I would like to point you towards a lovely free pattern called "Cthulhu Beard Hat".

For those of you who are not on Ravelry, the pattern is for a balaclava with tentacles coming out the front.

Tell me that can't be adapted for a ROCKIN' Ood mask.

I wish I could crochet.

I finished writing up the pattern!

I think it makes sense, but if it doesn't, then please tell me.

Here's the pattern :)

Last minute addition of the raised part on the top flap, so the pictures of mine don't quite match with this pattern.

For five years in a row, I've toiled over Harry Potter Halloween costumes for my daughter, while her little brother always seems to choose something obvious and available off-the-rack.

So, when he said he wanted to be the Doctor for Halloween this year, I figured it was time to make it up to my youngest child.

2 1/2 yards blue
1/2 yard pale yellow
1/2 yard white
1/4 yard black
3/4 yard navy
1 yard blue for panels
1/2 yard for background  (3 yards if using for backing as well)
2 1/2 yards backing (if not same as background)
2 1/2 yards batting/ poly fluff/ fleece for filler

the blue i used for panels was in between (colorwise) navy and the blue i used for the stripes
the broadcloth I used was fairly thin, so for the window panes and light I used white with yellow underneath
I wanted to have all the vertical stripes in one piece, so I ended up with a lot of extra blue fabric. One thing you could do if you didn't want to have a bunch of extra blue would be to use the same color blue for the panels as well as the stripes, and only use the navy on the panel borders.

first, I printed up the sign on the door using the computer printer paper and embroidered the police box sign.
the measurements for the finished sign are above, and the spacing for the Police box sign are as follows:

'POLICE'- 2 inches high x 9 inches long
'PUBLIC'- 1 inch high x 6 inches long
'CALL'- 1 inch high x 4 inches long (centered under PUBLIC)
'BOX'- 2 inches high x 5 inches long

Finished, it will measure
1 inch above and below lettering,
4.5 inches-POLICE-2 inches-PUBLIC CALL- 2 inches-BOX- 3.5 inches

i did the roof and light first in two pieces - the parts of the tardis sewn onto the background on their corresponding levels, then sewn onto the levels above and below , then the two halves sewn together up the middle.

next I took the roof section and sewed it onto the horizontal stripes below it until I got to the navy blue stripe beneath the Police box sign.

the windows were done in horizontal strips, pane-frame-pane-frame-pane, then sewn to the horizontal frame then the next row of panes, followed by the horizontal and then vertical navy edges.

the door sign was sewn to the horizontal paneling, then the vertical paneling, then the horizontal and vertical navy edges, the other five panels were sewn onto the horizontal edges, then the vertical ones.

next i sewed on the horizontal bars - bar-window-bar-sign-bar-panel-bar-panel-bar  and bar-window-bar-panel-bar-panel-bar-panel-bar, leaving me with two long columns.

after that i sewed the vertical edge stripes together, and then to the outsides of the panel columns, then sewed the center stripes together and connected them to the panels.

lastly, i sewed the roof section to the top.

the little door handles are 3.5 inches tall, one is centered on the center stripe to the left of the panel on the level of the sign, the other is centered on the paneling next to the sign. the lock is 1 inch across and is centered on the same stripe as the first door handle, at the level of the bar below the sign.

because this will be hanging on my door, I will be making it so the area by the doorknob can be folded in and out for cuddling or hanging, but befoe i cut it i wanted to put up pictures for anyone who was interested. I plan to hang it using buttons sewn on the back, connected to string, connected to the little 3m adhesive hooks that can be removed easily because we can't do anything permanent to the rooms.

I'll put up pictures as soon as I get settled at school.

EDIT: i'm done! and finally getting pictures up!

okay, finishing the quilt. I had measurements of the door, so i laid out the quilt right side up on the floor, then put the backing on top of that wrong side up, and then put the filling on top of that, pinning it all the way around. next i marked where the holes for the door hinges and doorknob would be, and then cut the lines for them using a rotary cutter.because i was not sure if it would work for a door hanging, i wanted to flaps to be able to fold out so it could be a blanket if i wasn't allowed to put it on the door because of firecodes or something like that. for the box-hinge-thingie in the top left corner, i cut vertically down from the edge of the box, for the doorknob hole i cut horizontally in at the top and bottom of the space needed for the doorknob and lock.
next, i started at the left edge of the sewed all the way around, going through all three layers, following the little green line i put on this picture for your convenience:

once i was done with that, i trimmed the extra off the edges and pulled it rightside out through the hole in the bottom, then sewed it up by hand.
the last thing i did was to put on the buttons for hanging. i used 7 buttons, and there are little red dots in the above picture to show where i put them. i sewed them by  hand onto the back, going only throught the backing and lining so you can't see it on the front. to hang it, i tied yarn around the buttons and attached the yarn to hooks on the back of the door. for the doorknob, the yarn gors from one button, around the back of the door, around the doorknob on the inside of the room, and back around the door to tie onto the other button.

And that was it. i finally finished my tardis and had time to put it up for the rest of you to see. (Yay!) and
hope that helps those of you who were planning on making your own :)

I was wondering if anyone knew of a pattern that looked anything like Romana's outfit from the Ribos Operation. I have a few patterns, but they aren't great.

Thanks.

This very strange idea took hold of me and wouldn't let go until I made it for the [info]who_knitsgood vs evil knitalong. Thought I'd share it with you lovely people, since you might appreciate it a wee bit more than my family does. Because you might think I wouldn't wear this in public. But you would be so, so wrong.

Pictures and directions below the cut for the infamous Dalek hat.

Davros is less happy than the Doctor about it, though. XD

This will be step by step, once I get some more pictures. n___n )

Lots of pictures, be warned. Too many? I can always put less step-by-step-ness on here, if it's too much to read. And all that.

I'll also add in a picture of the pieces, incase anyone else wants to draw their own out. You just have to make sure that the neck piece fits in with the tea ball strainer, and that the skirt fits in with the neck piece. n___n

*wanders off humming 'step by step'* "ooooh baby...:

Edit: the charts are showing up fine on the pattern now; I think imageshack was just being weird ...

So, in my last post, I had pictures of the fake!Seven vest I created for the purpose of, well, dressing up like him for Halloween.

A good number of people have asked if I was going to make a pattern. I haven't really had the time yet, being in the throes of my final year of undergrad, but I did get to the point of ordering sport weight yarn for a vest that will be more accurate. The fake!vest was knit in worsted.

But since I don't have a real pattern put together yet, and since I do have some rather drab, respectable colors I bought in order to knit a respectable version of the vest (more worsted weight), I am going to knit another sample vest.

I have made up a few patterns for the colorwork; that's most of what this posting is about, and you can slap them on any old vest pattern. (I used the Leftovers pattern from knitty.com for the original vest, and I'm using it for the "respectable" colored vest as well. I'll figure something else out for the real vest.)

And here are some colorwork patterns! )
