Look at me, I knitted a vegetable!
To learn the purl stitch I decided in my madness to create a hat and scarf ensemble dedicated to the 5th doctor. (I'm going to call it, "Vision In Beige".) I was inspired in part by [info]rhyski's celery pattern. So rather then starting with the scarf, I actually learned and practiced the purl stitch on Megzie's celery instructions.

I just finished my first stalk and I'm rather proud.

In the presence of certain gases, it turns purple... )

I was thinking I might try felting it... But I'm not sure if you can felt with 100% acrylic yarn.

Anybody got an opinion on that?

EDIT: Hugeness of the picture behind the cut fixed... I hope.
EDIT 2: This time for sure.
EDIT 3: Right, acrylic doesn't felt. Figured as much. Thank you! :D Also, more pictures of the process are available on my Ravelry project page.

Knitted Ten Doll
I finished his last pair of Chucks a few weeks ago, but I haven't gotten around to posting pictures till now. Basically... it's Little Ten. Creative name, no?

The teaser picture links to the other pictures, including a nekkid one (oh yes.) at my journal. Um, it's totally worksafe; he has built in underpants.

Time And Relative Dimensions In Scarfs
It's not done by a long shot.

But I'm proud.

I have learned the knit (garter) stitch and I'm making a Season 12 Scarf!

I have six rows of the first purple block done (30 rows to go before I have to learn how to change colors)!

Pictures behind the link. (Or, if you don't belong to Ravelry, HERE is a link to my flickr tag for the project I call My first "Time Scarf".)

Pay no attention to the fact that I cast on 65 stitches and somehow have ended up with 76 stitches on this latest row.

It's a wibbly-wobbly knitty-witty thing.

You may "Ooo and ahh" now.

Products of the last 2 months
Hello there all! Doctor Who began to take over my life this spring, and, unlike any other of my fandoms, it has given me a strange desire to make things. Things that often make the rest of my family shake their heads at me.

Today I bring you a rather rickety TARDIS and The Scarf

K9 iPod case.
Well, I already used the iTARDIS pattern for my camera, so when I got my shfancy new iPod I decided I had to come up with another way to protect my iPod and still prove to the world that I was a Doctor Who dork.

( And here is the result! )

The infamous Dalek hat
This very strange idea took hold of me and wouldn't let go until I made it for the [info]who_knitsgood vs evil knitalong. Thought I'd share it with you lovely people, since you might appreciate it a wee bit more than my family does. Because you might think I wouldn't wear this in public. But you would be so, so wrong.

Pictures and directions below the cut for the infamous Dalek hat.

Kaled mutants anyone?
Hello!

I've been lurking for a little while and feel it's time to ask the question.

Has anyone made/located a knitting or crochet pattern for Kaled Mutants?

I've been happily knitting [info]penwiper's dalek, but it's now occured to me that it won't be a real dalek without a kaled mutant inside.

I can probably make it with a little internal pocket opening at the front (at row 3&4 of the shoulder section, just under the firing panel, but I'm open to suggestions) which would fit one without it being too obvious.

The pocket will (hopefully) be very discreet, because it wouldn't be a proper dalek if the kaled mutant was too accessible. And it wouldn't be a kaled mutant, it would be an ex-kaled mutant, because a kaled mutant can't survive without a well built dalek around it, of course.

Maybe I'm taking this too far and this could be a sign I really need to get a life but hey, dalek *with* kaled mutant inside! How cool would that be?

Any help/advice greatly appreciated!

Another knitted dalek. It's my first though
It's my first post...so, just a little nervous...
I've only been knitting my dalek for two days, on and off.
Anyway, it's a work in progress. Look, I even have a picture.

I will put the charts back with the pattern when I get a chance, but for now here they are.

Edit: the charts are showing up fine on the pattern now; I think imageshack was just being weird ...

Notes on creating a Seven vest.
So, in my last post, I had pictures of the fake!Seven vest I created for the purpose of, well, dressing up like him for Halloween.

A good number of people have asked if I was going to make a pattern. I haven't really had the time yet, being in the throes of my final year of undergrad, but I did get to the point of ordering sport weight yarn for a vest that will be more accurate. The fake!vest was knit in worsted.

But since I don't have a real pattern put together yet, and since I do have some rather drab, respectable colors I bought in order to knit a respectable version of the vest (more worsted weight), I am going to knit another sample vest.

I have made up a few patterns for the colorwork; that's most of what this posting is about, and you can slap them on any old vest pattern. (I used the Leftovers pattern from knitty.com for the original vest, and I'm using it for the "respectable" colored vest as well. I'll figure something else out for the real vest.)

And here are some colorwork patterns! )

Question about knitting Rose's wristwarmers
I'm fairly new to knitting, and want to make an attempt at making Rose's wristwarmers from Doomsday.  The pattern I have calls for either double-pointed needles or circular needles, but I've only ever used straight needles.  Is one type easier to use than the other, or is it just personal preference?  What would you recommend to a newbie?

(I realize, of course, that I could just buy both and figure out what works best for me, which I may ultimately do, but I'd like some input from experienced knitters and/or knitters who've completed this project.)

Thanks!

They named everything after that guy, I swear...
It appears to be nothing more than an ordinary hat from the front.

a deceptively stylish-looking hat )

But...BEHOLD! It is a Tam...OF RASSILON! )

I used this pattern with a few modifications *cough*errors*cough* of my own.

I have just completed a Fifth Doctor inspired scarf for the [info]who_knits knit-a-long, and just thought I'd share it over here, too. :)

It's the button on top
My best friend's 30th birthday is today, and so I decided that I should take the time and knit her something. I'm a fairly new knitter, so it had to be simple. And then inspiration struck, in the form of geekitude, dorkiness and a Ravelry project.

Lots of things you can do with a stopwatch, sir. )

It was so easy to make: two short row circles, one in white and the other in steel grey. I cast on a few extra stitches in grey at the bind off to build the button on top, embroidered the face on (ten minutes and counting), stitched them together and stuffed it with yarn. While closing it up, I sewed on a black nickel D-ring to let her hang it up or from something easily.

And now I need to make a smaller one for myself, to hang from my purse. *g*

Would you like a jelly baby?
Here are some jelly babies I knitted up from this free pattern at Craftbits.com (ETA 2/19/08: This pattern is no longer available. A different pattern Jelly Baby Skittles is available). They are really fast to make and use up small bits of yarn. Each jelly baby is about 6.5 inches tall and jelly mum is 10.5 inches tall. I also made a mini jelly baby about 1.5 inches tall, not in the photos. I stitched faces on them, but they look better without faces. I think jelly babies may only be found at British foods specialty shops in the U.S., since I haven't seen any in regular grocery stores.

Dalek!
Hiya!
SO.. my friend Colin wanted a knitted tye dyed dalek for his birthday. I did my best to accommodate him.

Using the Extermaknit pattern that is floating around the internet, size 7 needles and some kids yarn that I found in an overflow bin, I finished this dalek in just a few days. It knitted up easily and I think it looks great.

It turned out to be a lot bigger than I thought. Its more of a dalek pillow now :)

I hope you like it!

Jumper Patterns?
Hello all.

Just found this community and I'm very excited. You all seem to be interested in more than just The Scarf.

I'm working on the series 12 scarf (just have to add the tassels), and I'm looking towards my next project. That's me and my son, who will be receiving the scarf, in my user pic.

So, with all that said, is there a pattern for the 5th Doctor's cricket jumper somewhere? (Would prefer something from Time Crash, but really, anything would do.) I'm also looking for a pattern for 7's question mark vest, including the pocket (which often gets left off).

Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Dalek Toilet Paper Cosy Pattern???
Hi there! I'm a new Doctor Who fan and a lurker here. You guys have inspired me so much with all your Who creations! I want to knit a Dalek toilet paper cozy for the friend who introduced me to Doctor Who as he is a bachelor who has everything, and a knitted Dalek TP cozy would make his day.

I swear I saw a pattern for one either here or somewhere else on the net, but my Google-fu is failing me. Does anyone know where I could get a pattern like this? I know I could use the pattern for the stuffed plush Daleks and leave off the base, but how would I stuff the top part without the filling falling out, or would I even need to?

Thank you so much for all the help! It's so much appreciated!
