Shooty Gingerbread Thing
So, since [info]pnr and I made a hugely successful gingerbread TARDIS last year, we had to raise the bar slightly this year.

Of course, we started planning months in advance. No, not really. Five days before Christmas, we  sat bulllshitting all evening, instead of planning. Three days before Christmas, we realized that a model would probably be quite useful, so we started draughting up a sort of pattern. We started very diligently with measurements and everything.

(All thumbnails are clickable links to bigger pictures!)

Yay cardboard!

Yay gluegun!

[info]therru: The backside is a bit wonky.
[info]pnr: Well, who hasn't got a wonky backside?
[info]therru: We put the 'ass' in 'assymetrical'!
[info]pnr: OMG BUMPERSTICKER!!!1! *draws on model*

At this point, we started realising that our maths skillz weren't quite up to making any more patterns. WWTDD (What Would The Doctor Do)? Make it up as you go along, of course!

Yay K-9 models!

On Christmas Eve, we started baking. Here's [info]pnr, skillfully maneuvering the rolling pin and cutting out pieces.

As you may remember from our TARDIS, we made a relief pattern on our walls, to make the panelling. Since K-9 is very 3-D, we decided to use the same method to simulate some of his structures. So, we first cut out and baked the basic pieces, and then cut out the relief pieces, stuck them onto the already baked ones with a little water, and baked them again.

After this, [info]pnr had to go home and have Christmas dinner with her family, for some strange reason, so we had to leave the next stage for today. Then we stuck the pieces together with melted sugar. (You can spot it in the frying pan.

How to make curved gingerbread without burning your fingers? Can't be done, sorry.

The tail is not gingerbread, sorry. We didn't want to burn our fingers that much. It's a Caprice stick.

These are all the paper pattern pieces.

And these are all the broken and burnt and otherwise discarded pieces. Tip: make enough dough to make two K-9s.

This is me, doing the frosting.

The nose is a piece of sawn-off shotgun Caprice.

And here is the finished product! Everything is edible, except for the buckle. That's a real metal one.

Mk I, meet K-9 Mk... er... VI?

That's all for now. Merry Christmas!

Dalek cookies can *never* be inadequate. They are superior by nature. :)

I got a "WWTDD" t-shirt for Christmas last year, actually! Unfortunately, I don't know the shop where my brother got it, but I believe it was on cafepress somewhere.

To the OP: This is absolutely fantastic! Are you eating it?

Now that is a great use of fan energy. I am so jealous. My friend and I had the idea of building your gingerbread TARDIS from last year, but laziness set in before we even bought the ingredients.

It would be so cool if you could post printable templates somewhere.
