Good news for Mazzmatazz...
She's now in talks with the BBC about her patterns.

Which is wonderful, since of all the Who crafters, she was the one specifically targeted by the Beeb with a cease and desist. However, what about all the other wonderful patterns out there? Should they also have a chance to make it into a book? I wonder if perhaps the BBC should put out an 'open casting call' to the crazily creative Who community to submit their patterns, as well.

Just my two cents, please delete if this is inappropriate for this community. Figured it was crafty, so people here would be interested in discussing...

I'm not a moderator but news about a community member and her patterns sounds like on-topic content to me. She was ill-used and I'm happy to see that they are making some kind of amends.

The Beeb should be watching this community for pattern prospects. It's not like there were many fan crafters inspired by Hyperdrive or Red Dwarf were there? I love Red Dwarf but it's not the same. Maybe "Lister's Curry Cook Book"?

Agreed! I think there might be more variety in this show than in Red Dwarf for monsters and aliens and the like. Also, different time... Maybe there are more crafters connected on the internet now than when Red Dwarf was being made?

My father has a Red Dwarf recipe for some sort of meal (of course I can't find it now) that he got off of one of the DVDs.

My theory was that a lot of people learned to knit because of the 4th Doctor scarf (which is, of course, almost perfect for a beginner project).

And y'know what? That is a great project. As soon as I'm done the ones I currently have on the go, maybe I'll try that. I've never knit before...

*nods* that's why I taught myself to knit. Now I'm working on a pattern for a 7th vest. When they used to sell them they didn't think anyone with boobs wanted one.

Icon love! I rarely write fanfic, but now I have a plotbunny of the Doctor helping out on a Mythbusters episode... hilarity ensues!

My impression from the Ravelry forums was that Mazz and the others were brainstorming for what other design(er)s could be included in such a project.

Really? That is awesome news! I should get my mom to work on that dalek patten she's been promising me for a year, now.

Or that I've been bugging her to make for a year, one of the two. XD

That's very good news and I'm so happy for Mazzmatazz! :D
It looks like the BBC found out how to make profit of the patterns in the end. Way more clever than suing a fan...

I'd hope nobody would actually BUY the book though....

I would. Seeing as this one would have patterns that actually worked.

Reading the review of the last book, and how many of the patterns were made of almost complete fail, I'd agree with getting working patterns.

Does bring up the whole 'the only way that the BBC will allow patterns to be distrubuted is through their books' worry, but right now they'd cease and desist you, so it's a step in the right direction.

yeah, i was thinking that too. which makes me wonder if it really IS a step in the right direction, or just the best she could do given the poor circumstances.

Do you think they would cease and desist any one else? I think someone wasn't thinking when they sent that letter about how fans would react and now they know. They got a lot of flack for it.

I bet that eBay shmuck who stole her patterns and then ratted her out is kicking him/herself for doing her a favor. XD

way to go, [info]mazzmatazz!
though it's great the Beeb is willing to work with her, i kind of hesitate at the patterns being in a published book ... considering they were all on the internet for free, and this all started from someone trying to profit from her free patterns. :P
