Chibi Fever!
For those of you who may be sick of the chibis, I do apologize.
I've been caught up in the craze as well ;)
Here are my first four (in the order I made them)



I do so love this little guy. I played around with different faces & think he (or she?) ended up pretty cute.



I had to make a little monkey mascot for myself for work. ;)



I'm not sure how "chibi" this turned out, but how much can you really do with a sock monkey? I made the gray splotchy to look more like knitting.



This started out as Jerry Garcia, but now it is just an old hippie man. I love the tiny sandals & tie-dye shirt. Sculpting the clothes was not fun though.


I've already got a few others I would like to make,
but I will post those just in my journal ~
so feel free to friend if you would like to see some more.


EDIT: I meant to ask ~ I think I would like these to remain matte after I add the protective glazes to them. I plan on using 2 layers of Matte Mod Podge, but then would like to use a third layer becuase Mod Podge can get sticky with humidity (I'm in Georgia!).

Can I use a Matte Clear Coat Spray? I know you can't use a spray over polymer clay, but what if it is over the layers of glue? Any other brand recommendations? Or should I just go glossy?

When I first saw the "old Hippie" I thought "Oh My God! It's Jerry!" Then I read the caption, and didn't feel as clever.

They're adorable, especially Jerry and the sock monkey.

"Chibi" is a Japanese word for a child or small person ~ they started using that word in anime when an adult cartoon character is drawn as a child version of themselves.

So basically, a child-like version of a person or animal... big head, big eyes, extra cute.

Wow, these are too adorable!!!! I love to collect things like this only because I can't make them myself. They came out fantastic for sure!!!

What did you use? Sculpy clay or something else? I see you painted it too right? Obviously...duh...I would love to learn how to make these. Too cute.

Yes, I used Sculpey & painted them with acrylics.

i saw her tutorial on craftgrrl (which is entertaining as well as informative) and am hoping to have a go. only problem is that i just cleared my stash of poly clay :P

yours turned out lovely. i especially like the monkey. i knew it was jerry garcia, the shirt makes it a dead give-away. the paint job on the shirt is exceptionally nice.

I love them all! I can't pick a favorite but I love love love the monkey's little hands. I think he's hiding something (or very very shy) :-)

Heeheehee, they're this year's marble magnets. EXCEPT I LOVE THEM 1000 TIMES HARDER! The chibis, I mean. I CANNOT GET ENOUGH. I WILL NEVER HAVE ENOUGH UNTIL I HAVE A LARGE PILE AND I CAN ROLL AROUND IN THEM. AND SQUEEL ABOUT IT. YAIS.

I am going to gank your monkey idea and try the same thing, because I would love to make one and give it to my sweetiums. I call him my babymonkey because he is so hairy. I THINK IT IS FUNNY.
