needle felted flowers and other recent projects
i was in awe of some felted flowers [info]leslieduckie posted awhile ago and finally got around to getting pics post-able ...

my first needle-felted flower. i backed it with a pin and it's now on my winter coat lapel.

more needle-felted flowers. the bigger of these was a gift to my boss for her birthday. i'm going to make more for a friend's wedding next month, in blue and yellow, since those are her colors. the roving just arrived today, in fact.

i made this washcloth for my boyfriend for valentine's day. gosh, for being such a non-flowery girl, there sure are a lot of flowers here.

my green womb. doesn't it look a lot like the cover of the hitchhicker's guide to the galaxy?

a cervix shot. becuase i'm so proud of its perfect pucker.

and this was me goofing off with fallopian antennas before i attached them to the womb:

the bear i knit for a nephew's birthday. the yarn was from a thrifted, recycled sweater.

he actually turned out quite wonky, and i discovered i loath seaming. here's his body (it's still taken from a flattering angle. i promise he looks very amateur in person. but, i guess he has character.

Hi, I've been interested in dabbling into felting, but I have no idea where to get the materials. Would you happend to know of any good on line sources.

and your stuff is super cute, and looks way well done. The knit flower is adorable. I wish I knew how to knit.

thanks! knitting is fun, seaming is not. and needlefelting is a LOT of fun. just take care to stab at the roving from the side/ata an angle. when i first started i was stabbing it up and down, and it took forever and was barely effective.

i actually got my felting resources from this community, so i'll refer you to the posts - the one i linked to in my post above, and: http://www.livejournal.com/community/craftgrrl/5033548.html

i've ordered supplies from:
http://www.earthsongfibers.com/
and

A lovely start to needlefelting! =) What a coincidence, I just posted some pics of some felted flower bobby pins on my LJ. Here are my latest creations: http://www.flickr.com/photos/feisty_elle/

how long does it take you to finish one of those?

well, i would say it takes an hour or so, somewhat dependent on size. the first one definitely took longer than an hour, and even if you're fast it's still a time-consuming process ...

I really think you should make another green womb and this time put the mouth with the tounge sticking out on it. Great stuff! :)

And yeah, seaming is a bitch.

my sister made angels for xmas out of that cottony stuff you used for the first set of flowers. I like the second flower with the swirl the best and what possessed you to make a green womb!?

i heart your womb! i made a few in shades of red and pink and also in my school colors (crimson with gold fallopian tubes), but i didn't think to make a green one! it looks like an alien! lol

you know what would be cool but I don't know how you'd do it... a womb with a skull and crossbones on it. like an "i hate cramps!!!" womb. awesome!

it's done by stabbing (usually) wool roving with very sharp needles to shape it. instructions here:

and, thanks!
