Earring/necklace newbie- follow-up questions
Thanks to all those who posted wonderful responses to my previous post.  I have one more quick question.

I am interested in using simple chain and charms for necklaces- do I just use little rings to attach or is there a better product?

For earrings, I'm interested in charms as well- I know I need the earring hooks, but other than that I don't know how to attach them - do I need pins or rings?  The simpler the better.

Thanks- sorry for the follow-up, I'm just trying to get started.

Jump rings are the easiest way to connect charms to chains or to earring hooks. Pins are used to string beads on, creating a charm out of beads. Headpin earrings are super easy and quick to make, especially if you're just doing simple loops at the top instead of more secure wrapped loops.

Thank you...although I'm still kinda confused cause I don't know what all the things are your talking about.

I want the simplest way to attach a charm (no beads or anything) to basic earring hooks (not post) and chains.

Thank you!

That would be jump rings. Little rings that have a cut open side, you use 2 pairs of pliers and open them with a twist instead of opening them by pulling them apart, then you close them by twisting them back to the closed position.

i buy earring hooks at michael's that don't require a jump ring. the charm can be slipped on, instead of needing the ring, because the earring isn't made completely closed. they look like these, but with an obvious space between the ear wire and the "ball" :http://www.artbeads.com/ss-ear18.html

this saves money on components and makes for a stronger earring.

good luck!
