More experiments with natural dyeing!
hello all,

I've been experimenting with natural dyes again - some of this was so I could use up odds and ends that had been stored in the freezer, some of it was using dyes I'd just made.

t-shirt, tie-dyed with natural dyes - alum mordant and blackberry, beetroot, daffodil and redbush

t-shirt, spiral-dyed with natural dyes - alum mordant and blackberry, beetroot, daffodil and redbush (had been onion-dyed before, but didn't do much - so was overdyed to see what happened).

I realise the colours aren't very permanent and these will need careful washing - but a fun experiment using leftovers and cheap shirts!

Now the wools!

"Spring Girl" - merino, mordanted with alum, dyed with beetroot, daffodil and red onion

"Spring Boy" - BFL, mordanted with alum, dyed with blackberry, redbush, daffodil and red onion

All of this dyeing was done by "painting" using a large (needleless) syringe, covering in food-wrap then steaming in the dyes.

very nice! The colors are so soft looking? Do they last?

I think the shirts look so pretty.
What are you using to dye?

Natural dyes, cooked up from various fruits, flowers and vegetables!
Not sure how well they will last, even having used the mordants, as many natural dyes fade with time. All a bit of an experiment really :)
