CPPD Update [Aug. 6th, 2007|08:13 am]

wynnen
[Tags|, , ]

Hi everyone,

Despite the lack of updates, stuff has been happening...

Now that I have some real & concrete details, it is time for an update!

This year's event will be held at Westgate Community Hall (This is
about 10 mins away from Westbrook Mall, between Bow Trail, 17th Ave nd
Crowchild Trail).

Promotions ideas )

Also, Vendor's tables can now be booked: Tables are $20 for a full
vending table and free for community groups who want an information-
only table (no selling).

Current ideas )

Also, we are looking an setting up our program if you are interested
in organizing/presenting any of the following, please let me know:

- Opening ritual - I'd like it be 15 mins or less, let me know what
you have in mind if you're interested.

- Children's Ritual - Let me know & I'll put you in contact with the
person organizing children's activities. I'd suggest this one be 30-45
mins.

- Harvest/Mabon/Closing rit - Up to 90 mins.

Other program activites needed! )

If you would like to sponsor CPPD and be included in our pre-event and
event day advertising, please contact me to discuss this.

If you have any other suggestions, please contact me directly @ cppd@shaw.ca .

Update on CPPD Open House #2 [Jun. 6th, 2007|08:15 am]

wynnen
[Tags|, ]

Hmm... I'm not certain how to address this:

I picked a venue that was "neutral" and one person showed up to the open house on the 26th.

I'm sure there were many reasons why people weren't there. The Gods know I don't have a hard time coming up with reasons not to do something.

I can't help but assume at this point that Calgary Pagan Pride Day isn't an event the community in general finds worth supporting. There have been a few volunteers, and a few groups who have shown their support directly or indirectly and a few individuals with words of encouragement. Please know that I recognize and value every bit of that support. But I see that CPPD has a very small pool to draw from and I hesitate to put on an event that will only end up draining the too few individuals involved.

So I have set a date:

June 22, 2007 - I will decide on that date if CPPD is cancelled this year or not.

And I will be basing this decision on the

As you can see, I do not lack for ideas necessarily (but better ones are always welcome!), but rather person-power for implementing them, so we shall see how this goes.

Update on Gaia Gathering PPD Panel [May. 25th, 2007|06:02 pm]

wynnen
This past weekend I attended the Canadian National Pagan Conference in Winnipeg (Gaia Gathering).

I had the privilege of participating in two panels:

- Organizing our Pagan Pride Days
- Pagans, professions & Money

The first panel was obviously more related to CPPD, so here is my point form summary & comparison of some of the main points:

Panel Summary )

My conclusion from participating on this panel is to draft a list of "action points", and "Resources":

Cheers!

CPPD Open House #2 [May. 6th, 2007|11:25 am]

wynnen
[Tags|, ]
[mood | excited]

Here are the details of the 2nd CPPD open house meeting:

When: Saturday May 26th, 4-7pm
Where: Calgary Co-op Midtown Market,
Upstairs in the community space - Hopefully the tables by the kitchen - Look for the pink flower logo.
What to expect:

- General information on the Pagan Pride Project, Cagary Pagan Pride Day, etc
- Details and discussions about current year's event location, programming, theme, and timing
- Feedback and comments about prior years' events
- Promotions start up suggestions

What to bring:

- Suggestions, comments, ideas, etc. for improving CPPD 2007

- Some munchies to share, or money to purchase yourself some dinner if you so wish, given the timing of this open house. This isn't a requirement as I will have a some healthy snacks to share.

- A refillable mug, bottle or cup for water as there is water available for free in the meeting area (both tap & bottled as you prefer). There are disposable cups available if you can or do not bring a refillable drinking container.

Please note: Although this location is secluded from the remainder of the store, it is still a public venue.

If you cannot attend, but you wish to provide feedback you may as always email cppd@shaw.ca. I also recomend joining the yahoogroup as I will be posting a summary of the open house up there as well.

Hope to see you there!

CPPD 2007 Update [Apr. 29th, 2007|05:16 pm]

wynnen
[Tags|]

I haven't posted here in a while because of the "busy-ness" of work
these days, but I just wanted to mention a few things so everyone
knows CPPD has not in fact dropped off the face of the planet.

- Open House #2 will be the last Weekend of May (either Saturday or
Sunday afternoon depending on availability of the location) I will
be calling this afternoon once I get back from the office to confirm
a day and time.

- I want this year's CPPD to branch out to represent as many
different groups in the community as we can.

My suggestion for a theme is:
"Sacred Gem, the many facets of the Calgary pagan community"
I'm open to any suggestions or improvements on this theme.

With this in mind what I wanted to have was the speakers for the day
to be presentations on a specific path (to be determined later)
throughout the day. These presentations would ideally be geared
towards the non-pagan. Either the first or the last presentation (or
both) would be a discussion of the Calgary Pagan Community as a
whole highlighting the similarities and the differences between each
group. I plan on scheduling a fairly light schedule this year as I
am only planning on running CPPD from 11am - 4pm "actively".

My personal preference would be for the presentations on a specific
path to be done by those who follow that path, rather than third
party from CPPD.

Other items/changes I want to try out this year:

- Tables pricing: Information only table for area groups: Free,
fundraising table for Area groups $20, "Commercial" venture tables -
$40.

I know some groups may sell things at their table to recover the
cost of the table, and I would like to encourage groups in Calgary
to come out and have a table so that people attending CPPD can ask
questions informally person to person.

- Notice Board - I want to include on this:
o Copies of any recent publicity (last 5 years) regarding the
Pagan Community in Calgary, as well as articles of interesting
happenings Internationally, Recent announcements
o Public event information for Calgary Community events
happening for the remainder of the year (e.g. events groups would be
ok with a random non-pagans showing up at and observing, if that was
to happen)
o Other items of interest that reflect the Calgary Community

I'm hoping it will be a nice enough day that we can spend some time
outdoors and that from 5-8pm we can have a CPPD participants &
attendees BBQ and gathering as a wind down to the day have some
drumming and community time. This would likely be a bring your own
food event or a potluck.

4-5pm would be pack up & tear down time for vendors (I'll likely
leave th enotice board up). If CPPD did this I would like it to be
an Event that was publicized within the Community as a Pagan
Community Gathering. The primary focus of a CPPD event is to provide
a venue for public information, however one of the facts of the
matter is that for a lot of people new to the Community CPPD is how
they start making some community contacts. I would like to still
include that side but I think I would like to specifically designate
time for it.

I also know a lot of people in the community want to come out and
see what's happening but have other commitments during the time.

Anyways Ladies and Gentlemen, Let me know what you think about this.
If you don't want to reply in public on the group, please send me a
private email to cppd (at) shaw (dot) ca. Critiques are welcome as
are encouragements. ;)

Feb 8, 2007 Open House Summary [Feb. 10th, 2007|09:19 am]

wynnen
It was such a wonderful evening! I wish I had thought to do this earlier. Comments were very constructive, and hopefully some common misconceptions regarding CPPD were clarified. About 15 people showed up, but they were people who came prepared to fire ideas at me so it far exceeded my expectations.

Unfortunately, looking back now it occurs to me, I spent a large amount of time deeply involved in paying attention to what people are giving me for suggestions and asking for details and clarification on issues that came to mind, and not enough time taking notes. If anyone who attended sees anything I have missed, please remind me and I will add it.

However, here is a summary of the notes I did take when I finally noticed my error.

Venues Suggested: )

Advertising suggestions: )

Possibly the most important thing will be a dedicated advertising person (and some graphics assistance with the advertising) to get the word out.

Entertainment Suggestions: )

Other points )

Another possible option for the community )

So thanks again to everyone who showed up! Stay tuned for details on the next Open House. Thanks Mimi for letting me co-opt Pagan Paths for this!

This is by no means an exhaustive list, so please include any details you have that do not fit in with any of the above categories.
