Indecent
Author's Note: This is my little thank you to [info]watergal for her lovely Christmas card & fossils.

Indecent, by Dana Kujan

“To whom would you have the gentleman appeal?” Holmes inquired.

Holmes noted the knuckles fading to white as they gripped the mantel.

At length, Watson rejoined, “That isn’t my concern.”

Unaccustomed to considering another’s feeling, let alone acquiescing to another’s wishes, Holmes rose and started for the door. Watson’s hand on his arm stopped him.

“Think of the damage,” Watson whispered, “such an association could visit upon our-- your reputation.”

Holmes summoned Mrs. Hudson. When she appeared, he placed the calling card face down on her silver tray. “Pray, inform Mr. Wilde I can be of no use to him.”

Oh, Watson, I love you, but I want to hit you so hard in the face right now. *G*

As someone said, that was clever!

I'm not sure that's really in character for Watson (wasn't ACD sort of friendly with Wilde?), but I still like it :) Particularly Holmes deferring to Watson - so sweet.

Well, I think it's one thing for ACD to be friendly with Wilde, and quite another for Watson to allow Holmes to risk exposure of their relationship, especially given the sentence Wilde was facing if convicted.

*blink* Aw, thanks!

Dang, I have kilos of fossils and a handful of cards left over. If I should mail them one at a time...?

No? Ah well, a fangirl had to try.

I think what I like best about this is how much is crystal clear although it isn't said. You really excel at that. I read Holmes's universal commitment to justice, but yet how easily he surrenders the one thing that has always mattered to him when it is important to the only person who does. How hard it is for Watson to condemn another, how he would give up almost anything to help someone. Almost anything, but not Holmes.

I tend to think of them both as being supermen devoted to saving London at every chance. A glimpse of the men with limits and needs and one single selfish thing they ask in exchange makes them more human and therefore more real

Thank you so much for this. It's lovely, and I like it very much.

Yay! You like it! Yay!

I'm so relieved I somehow managed to convey what was in my head.

You know you're very welcome... and if I thought fossils could sustain a fire under me... but probably not.

Yay! She's pleased!

Very thought provoking. I think Watson has Holmes' safety and well being foremost in his thoughts. Thank your for presenting it this way.

*wails* NOOOOO!!!

This had me literally crying at the end. Well-written, even if I disagree with every direction it went in. Might you consider writing a further story with the other answer to the inquiry?

You know, I originally intended this to be a much longer story-- so I could expand H's & W's opposing viewpoints and conflcting emotions-- but then I challenged myself to pare it down to 100 words (mostly because I was afraid I'd never write it otherwise). So, yes, I'm always thinking about writing something; I'll certainly consider your suggestion.

I'm glad you found my little drabble well-written. I'm sorry it made you cry.

on the one hand i would love to see a longer version of this, but on the other, i think you've got it perfectly just as it is, and everything you would want to convey is all right there.

i'm usually against dragging oscar wilde into holmesslash (or really any holmes pastiches) just because it happens so often, but this was excellent, and it was a completely justified and INTERESTING use of wilde! thank you for posting it.
