desperation claws lines in the skin

the pressure too much to fight
dedication falls without ceremony
shattered down to its elements
the remnants blown away and free

[mood |smooth as a baby's butt]

Today, well this morning, has been sort of a beauty thing. Ran to a local day spa and got some brush cleaner (I love me some Bare Minerals), ran to sally's Beauty Supply for a couple of things, and since they are on the same parking lot (opposite sides but same parking lot) I decide to take my hairy little self to the local Korean mani/pedi salon and get myself waxed. (No, not THERE, get your head out of the gutter!) We are talking eyebrows, chin, lip.

So I can lying back in the mani/pedi foot bath chair so the tiny little Korean lady (with the worst breath ever - dear god, what had that woman been eating? ramps?!) can reach me when she starts giggling. (Hear in your mind's ear the worst Korean accent ever. Think Margaret Cho when she talks about her parents and g'ma) "You so hairy! Oh my god! You so hairy!" She is just waxing and ripping and pucking and the only thing she would say is "Oh my god! You so hairy!"

So apparently I am a Yeti and don't know it.

GOD, YOU GUYS, I AM STILL SO EXCITED FOR THE DARK KNIGHT. I've been pretty good about the wait. I hate having to, but there isn't much I can do about it. I'm bookmarking all your reviews to go back and read later, because you guys always have awesome opinions, but I don't want to spoil myself yet.

BUT I PIMPED OUT MY CELLPHONE, BATMAN STYLE. THIS IS MY TEXT MESSAGE TONE! (so cool, right?)

And [info]mznaughty and I rewatched Batman Begins tonight, which was mostly a mixture of me lusting after teh Bale, both of us screaming at Katie Holmes, and [info]mznaughty chiming in wanting to see the Joker now. Needless to say, we are excited.

Oh, and The Dark Knight had a $60M Friday at the box office. They were predicting a total opening weekend of $90M, but I say it is definitely going to steamroll that. But is anyone surprised? I've never seen hype like it, and it is definitely going to smash quite a lot of box office records. Wow. It is kind of amazing, huh? I'm glad I am so justified in being SO TOTALLY PSYCHED FOR THIS FILM, FOR EVERRRRR?

(man, I'm glad I bought those $90m call shares in The Dark Knight on the Hollywood Stock Exchange when they opened at $2 each. Now they are $18 and I'm laughing. I mean, it wasn't exactly a long shot for me to bet that it would make $90m opening weekend, was it?)

TONIGHT WE ALSO FINALLY WATCHED THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL. Now, I know there was a lot of talk about this when it came out, and I've had discussions with many of you at one time or another about it, and said I would throw together a few thoughts when I did get around to seeing it, because apparently, sometimes you guys don't mind reading my opinions on films and stuff? Well, my review probably isn't going to shock anyone:

the other boleyn girl )

Random other things:

Act III of Dr. Horrible is up. WOE. WHY IS IT OVER?

AND TWO WEEKS UNTIL I LEAVE FOR LONDON. O. M. G. PEOPLE.

[mood | a bit blah]

I met someone! At a coffee shop, last week. Saw him there again today, and we chatted. Then we went and walked around downtown. He's pretty cool. It's weird, normally I'd be attracted to him - he's got dark hair and glasses and he's sort of indie and sweet and amusing - but I'm just not into it. I do, however, like hanging out with him. So I might be making a friend? Which would be really nice, because I don't know many people in Asheville anymore.
Well, no, I KNOW people - today I saw two people I recognized and have spoken to once or twice, and someone I hung out with in high school, and that was just in 1 or 1.4 hours downtown. Tw3o were at the same grocery store. BUT I don't have anyone to hang out with.
We might be going to see "The Dark Knight" tomorrow with some people he knows. We also mutually chose some movies at the video store today... so in the next few days I might be seeing "Control," "Eagle vs. Shark," and/or some episodes of old school Doctor Who - the one with the scarf. Yeah, that video store pretty much ROCKS.

Um, what else. My hair cut went well - I just got about 3 inches cut off, nothing fancy - I just wanted to get it back to looking healthy. I really, really liked the stylist, and definitely want to keep going back to her. she was really fun, and she did a good job.

I should go to bed. I've been feeling really out of sorts the last few days, just tired and bored and hormonal. Sleep would be very good, but I'm not tired... boo.

Also. I am developing an interest in Stephen Fry that I feel will likely blossom into a full-blown obsession. Be warned.

AND! I'm going to see Conor Oberst (of Bright Eyes) in Chapel Hill in a few weeks!
AND Old 97's here next Thursday. General music joy abounds!

I finished my iPod bag, for real now, and I also made a hat over yesterday and today. It's really cute, if I do say so myself. It has loopy fringe. However, it's small, circumference-wise (I pull my stitches really tight, and need to learn to compensate for it, because my hats always end up too small), but tall. I put it on my head earlier and it looked like the strangest top hat ever. I'm hoping it will fit my little sis like the toboggan it's meant to be... though I may keep it and pin it to my hair at a rakish when I'm feeling especially silly. It could be the leper's bell of the hopeless, inoperable ridiculousness that fills my brain.

Speaking of ridiculous, I think I'm going to go check out Dr. Horrible's Sing-along blog (FINALLY). Then I shall sleep.

Hmmm, I'm still not doing all that well emotionally. I can tell because in the last two days I've dyed and cut my own hair. Bad signs. (no camera either)

I'm working on doing what I can to keep myself as sane as I can. Partly I think I just need to get through a few more days until my period comes. I went to bed last night almost as soon as Tony got home (which was about 8pm). I totally forgot that My Boys was on TV last night so I missed it. :-(

We've had James going through some evaluation and it does look like he has some developmental problems. No, no no no. I really didn't want that. Nothing for sure yet. It was just an initial "let's see if it's worth it to go through the process" kinda thing and it was determined that it is worth it. :-( So now we'll be leading James through a maze of specialists. One thing James definetly has is some speech issues. He's 5 and he's sometimes hard to understand. blah

So, I actually did vacuum the upstairs today. And I put Niv's sheet and blankies in the wash (except the blankie that's with him at daycare - you can't have everything, after all). Now I'm going to go to Walmart.

We need:
Cat food
Cleaning supplies - floor cleaner without ammonia, something for the bath/shower, anything else that looks shiny
Gifts for the niece and nephew - maybe school supply-ish stuff, or t-shirts

Oh yeah, and a carpet spot-cleaner. The carpet is stained with so many cat barfs! GROSS! Let this be a lesson to homeowners - BROWN CARPET. That is all.

Ronen's cousin will be in LA tomorrow, so we thought we'd send some stuff back to Israel with him for the little ones. We haven't sent them anything in a while. The little ones are getting big, though! My nephew will be 7 in September, and my niece is 4-1/2! I held her when she was 6 weeks old. Aw.

This lunch is delicious.
Leftover homemade potato salad (a bit bland, but still yummy)
Leftover BBQ brisket on biali
Pickles

I'd feel badly about eating Hoppie's leftover BBQ brisket, except I made him a sandwich of biali + roast beast + corned beast. So he's probably just as happy as I am.

I also ordered 4 new pairs of crocs in different styles. Two of the Mary Jane (pearl white and black) which are my favourite style, one Adara in black/silver and one Cleo in black/lavender. I know, no one cares, but *I* care. I did not buy the sunglasses even though they offered me 50% off.

I've nearly worn through my classic style black crocs and because they have no tread left, I slipped on the entryway floor other day when running around with the Verizon guy, so it was definitely time for new shoes.

We had dinner with Miss Lori yesterday. Yes, you heard me right. Her plans for the wedding she was coming up for changed so she got in early and squeezed out some time for dinner with me and Hoppie. Thanks for talking me down from the ledge yesterday, Tril. Apparently it was the 11:10, not the 11:40, and JetBlue.

Hee hee hee:

Random board gamer: Settlers of Catan was created in the bowels of hell to make otherwise intelligent people say: "I have wood for sheep."

I love that game!

I know everyone knows about Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog by now. It's still hysterical. I'm going to have to make time Saturday night post-Shabbos to watch ep 3.

My thought of the day: Fruit gems would make a good shield.

Also, shirt.woot.com is keeping hoppie in clothing.

It's my favourite kind of week, one stuffed to the brim with great people.
Some of the goodness: I  visited Crooswijk graveyard yet again, which is gorgeous and huge and everyone who lives in Rotterdam should visit. Indonesian dinner at the parents. A library customer I helped to find books about antique glass mentioned i'm prettier than his Venetian glass and he wasn't even creepy about it. I lunched, brainstormed and laughed too loudly with Rooie_aap at Bagels & Beans. Ewaluna slept over. Went to a birthdayparty of my music-fanatic-chessobsessed colleague-friend. Lots of wine. I stuffed myself with sushi, beer and sake with 1st boyfriend Erwin. More to come, tonight is afterwork drinks night with Rooie_aap and tomorrow is Ewaluna's Amsterdam housewarmingparty.
