Premise; Countshire is a small town tucked away in the mountains of northern England. Feared as a cursed land in ancient times, it became the refuge to a group of people persecuted for wizardry during the Middle Ages, and has since developed.
During the late 19th century, a large university was built there, sponsored by the prestigious Lezard family. Countshire University has always been an elite institution, accepting only highly talented (or rich) students into its ranks. It's known for its extensive international exchange program - in fact, the majority of the student body is comprised of foreigners, which makes it quite unique among the universities in the country.
It also harbors a secret agenda of its own - it's run from behind the scenes by a secret organization known simply as The Order, and no students are brought there without a good reason.
Countshire is also a place filled with magic. Beings known as spirits run abound, invisible to the normal human's eye, though The Order is well-aware of their existence - and their ability to control the supernatural. By bonding with a human, they can lend them their powers - which makes humans who can forge such bonds a valuable asset indeed.
Not only that - hidden to the public eye, there are also humans born with the gift of magic, and although few, Countshire University is invariably their place of choice to study.
However, not everything about magic is beneficial - creatures known as shades and demons also lurk there, preying on the unprepared. It has been a priority of The Order to keep these creatures at bay, and although they have successfully kept peace for centuries, the numbers of these creatures seems to be increasing...
Basic Information; Countshire is an original character game set in modern-day England, in the fictional town of Countshire (yes, we're very original with names). The game itself is staged at the university, to which all characters are expected to have ties - be it as a student, faculty, staff, or any other means.
In Countshire's setting, there exist alternate worlds which are connected to ours by means of distortions in space called the Portals - and through them, immaterial beings known as Spirits, Shades and Demons cross over into our world.
Spirits and Shades come from the same world and are essentially the same - immaterial beings that look largely like our world's animals, are intelligent and have some form of supernatural powers. The only difference between them is that Shades' energy is deadly to humans, and as such they tend to be branded dangerous and evil. Both can bond with humans and lend them their power, in turn becoming able to gain a physical body and pass off as a creature from our world.
Demons, which come from yet another world, lack rational intelligence and are essentially predators, a threat to humans and spirits alike - however, they don't usually cross into other worlds unless summoned.
There are also humans born with the gift to use magic - suitably called Magicians. The gift is hereditary and there are only ten families of them remaining. The magic itself is described in ancient tomes known simply as The Books, and there are exactly twelve remaining in existence, each in possession of a different family, with the exception of the three deadliest, which are in possession of a single family - the heads of The Order.
The Order is an organization working to keep Shades and Demons at bay, as well as organize and set rules to the use of magic and bonding with Spirits. They control the university from behind the scenes and have branched their influence out worldwide, under the guise of the Lezard company - which is run by the Lezard family, the same that founded the Order, the university, and is one of the last magician families remaining.
Not everything about The Order is rainbows and fluffy bunnies, however, and there are those - albeit scarce - that oppose them, a small organization by the name of the Nebelrose.
Most people, however, are completely unaware of all of the above and just carry on their university life, unaffected by these facts.
But likely not for long, given the sudden appearance of Demons lately - and they don't particularly care to make their presence a secret.

Internet&Interaction; Each character has their own personal blog within the university's website, and other characters are allowed to comment on entries. It's also possible to send PMs to other characters to carry out private conversations, and to change the security level of entries so that only you can see them. All these entries are posted via the in-character community, for easy tracking.
In addition, there is also an in-character chatroom for students (#countshire @ irc.gccafe.com; the OOC room for players is #bunchoflosers), and students may talk over the internet through whatever other means (AIM, MSN, online games, other blogging services, what have you) - logs from these should be posted in the records community, as well as any third-person interaction logs.
