HELP!!!!! [16 Jul 2008|08:17pm]

ash_sk8s
I am in dire need of a graphics co-webmaster for http://brad-paisley. net I may do just fine at coding and running a website, but I suck at making graphics. :) Basically you could be in charge of making graphics for the website - layout headers, link graphics, etc. If there's other areas you'd be interested in helping out with you'd certainly be welcome to, but it's not required. So if you're interested please e-mail me at ashley@brad-paisley.net and include some samples of your work! :) Thanks!

Doc Walker and Shane Yellowbird [16 Jul 2008|02:45am]

shan_dals
Hey all. This is all about promoting an awesome event, if'n there's any objections to my shameless pimpage of a hometown event, just let me know and I'll remove it. :)

The Gateway Music Festival in Bengough, Saskatchewan: From July 25-27, the tiny town of Bengough will play host to more than 20 performers, covering a variety of genres, though most predominantly country  ----->Festival Homepage<----- The headliners are Doc Walker and Shane Yellowbird.

Come on, the town's population is under 400 people at last count. The fact this with be the fourth year the town has put this event on, with it getting bigger and better every year is amazing. The total attendence for the weekend last year was more than SIX TIMES the town's population! Tickets (for just the headline acts for Friday or Saturday night) and weekend passes are still on sale, and  the passes will also be available at the gate. Come on out, it's a great time.

Oh, and for anyone curious, here are links to both parts of the video montage I made of last year's Festival (sorry, crappy vid quality at some points, but the video was taken on small digital cameras. Linkage: part one     part two

Keith & Nicole had their baby. A girl, which they named Sunday Rose Kidman Urban.

What an effing stupid name. But congrats to them, I can't wait to see her!

"Earlier this morning, Nic gave birth to our beautiful baby girl, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban. We want to thank everybody that has kept us in their thoughts and prayers. We feel very blessed and grateful that we can share this joy with all of you today."

[ music | Dolly Parton - Potential New Boyfriend ]

I have the one with Burlap And Satin and Real Love on it. And right now, it's pretty much one of my favorite CDs. The entire thing is quite enjoyable, the sound quality is fantastic, and the liner notes are great and even include full page photos of each album's cover image. I wish Sony BMG would release more of these...and release them domestically too. Hell, I'd pee my pants if they ever released a two-fer of like Rainbow and White Limozeen. (I actually have yet to hear White Limozeen, but oddly enough, I do love the Rainbow album and would love to be able to get it for less than $30 on Amazon Marketplace, and I figure pairing her only pop album for Columbia with her first country album with them would be a great sell.)

Favorite tracks include:
Send Me The Pillow That You Dream On
Potential New Boyfriend
A Cowboy's Ways
Calm On The Water
Think About Love
Don't Call It Love
Real Love
I Hope You're Never Happy

I've heard Great Balls Of Fire and Dolly, Dolly, Dolly too, but at the moment, the only songs I really remember are Star Of The Show and Do You Think Time Stands Still...both from GBOF I believe.

Review: Mark Chesnutt, Rollin' With The Flow [25 Jun 2008|08:57pm]
occasionalhope
I’ve always loved Mark’s smoky voice and pure country approach, and this is a great new album from him.
Things To Do In Wichita: beautiful measured slightly sad song, 9/10
When You Love Her Like Crazy: another beautiful sad song about lost love, 9/10
Rollin’ With The Flow: charming laid back feel to this song about growing older, 9/10
Going On Later On: OK uptempo feelgood thing, 7/10
Live To Be 100: quite amusing, 7/10
When I Get This Close To You: just lovely, swingy waltz I could hear George Strait doing, 9/10
Come On In (The Whiskey’s Fine): not bad, though not as funny as the writer thinks it is, 7/10
If The Devil Brought You Roses: very good and interesting song, 8/10
Woman: cheerful and engaging little song, 7.5/10
Man In The Mirror: touching tribute to a father, 9/10
Long Way To Go: good but not that memorable, 7/10
She Never Got Me Over You: saving the best for last, a classic lost love song, 10/10
Negatives: no songwriter credits.

Songwriter On The Rise [18 Jun 2008|01:37pm]

musicdish

Leon Newton is considered a new songwriter while actually he has been writing songs for over ten years. It was only a couple of years ago that he decided his talent for writing could lead to commercial success.

Although Leon has written in various genres of music; such as folk, blues, rock, rap and Christian, his main forte is country music. Leon says "I write country music because you can tell stories about life and the struggles that we all go through. In fact, if you take time to listen, you can learn a lot from country songs."

On another note, Leon wrote a song titled "Race Car Junky" out of respect for the drivers of NASCAR and motor sports around the world, and the fans that love the sport.

Leon's goal is to be a respectable songwriter who can create music that will inspire people, music that will move the listener. Music, that when people hear it, will recognize it as a Leon Newton song. Samples of Leon's songs can be heard at www.cdbaby.com/cd/leonnewton and www.phonesherpa.com/leonnewt

Searching for a Song Title [14 Jun 2008|11:44am]

happi_feet
The song came out three or four years ago. The artist is male, not legendary. The plot of the song is as follows:

A father is dying, possibly of cancer. He asks his friend to take care of his wife and son. Asks his friend to tell his son stories about him, what a good guy he was.

The video had the artist standing in a long dark trench coat in possibly a penthouse apartment with windows all around.

Hit Songwriter Craig Bickhardt Releases 'Giant Steps' For Special Needs Children [12 Jun 2008|01:37am]

musicdish

Hit songwriter Craig Bickhardt has released a song written for his son, Jake, who has Cerebral Palsy. The song was posted this week on his popular blog, Ninety Mile Wind -- www.ninetymilewind.blogspot.com. It is also available for free download from his website at www.craigbickhardt.com, or it can be streamed from his My Space page -- www.myspace.com/craigbickhardt -- where it has been garnering a lot of listener response. The song, titled “Giant Steps”, speaks inspiringly about the father-son relationship and the challenges both face as they tackle life with a disability.

Bickhardt, a former Nashville resident who has written award winning songs for Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, B. B. King, Alison Krauss, Martina McBride, Art Garfunkel, David Wilcox, Tony Rice, Pam Tillis (#1 song, “Between Dances”) and many others, is currently on tour in the north east. He will be appearing in at The Sellersville Theater with Beth Nielsen Chapman, and also at The Philadelphia Folk Festival in August. His other music is available through itunes, CD Baby.com, Amazon.com, and his website www.craigbickhardt.com

Review: Julianne Hough [11 Jun 2008|07:19pm]
occasionalhope
Julianne Hough
Julianne has a nice warm voice, and the record is well produced by David Malloy, but overall it feels a little uninspired.
Track by track:
That Song In My Head: good song, and a good choice of lead-off single. I liked this one. 7/10
You, You, You: not quite as good, but pleasant and enjoyable, 7/10
Hide Your Matches: a rather boring Hillary Lindsey song whose metacphor never quite catches fire, 6/10
My Hallelujah Song: lyrically sounds like an American Idol winner’s song, which is not a compliment, but I like Julianne’s voice on this. It is bland, though. 6/10
Jimmy Ray McGee: quite interesting but ended up not really going anywhere, 7/10
Dreaming Under The Same Moon: pleasant if generic song, a duet with Julianne’s brother, whose voice is pretty poor, 6/10
About Life: pleasant but generic, cowritten by one-time teen star Jessica Andrews, 7/10
Hello: entertaining and lively bit of advice for a friend making bad choices, co-written by Rebecca Lynn Howard, 7.5
Help Me Help You: very good song, but for the first time it shows up deficiencies in Julianne’s voice and/or her emotional connection to the song, 8/10
Love Yourself: another pretty good song giving advice to a friend, although it gets rather repetitive, 7/10
I’d Just be With You, quite nice, 7/10
