Welcome to [info]cott_scholar, a 'Class of the Titans' LiveJournal community dedicated to the more scholarly aspects of Studio B's animated series, as well as more mature discussions. Given that the show is based on classical Greek mythology -- a potentially rich source to dissect -- in addition to making numerous allusions to modern films, Greco-Roman artwork, and having great characters and interpretations just asking to be analyzed intelligently, I thought it'd be nice to have a community where there could be mature and less 'fangirling' discussions about the show, especially from a scholarly standpoint.

That said, if I haven't scared anyone off yet and you're still interested in joining us, please read the rules below.

1. You must be at least SIXTEEN years old to join the community. Sorry -- I know age and maturity don't always go hand-in-hand, but I do want to set some minimum limit. I WILL check for this information in more than one way when you apply to join the community. If you're not of age yet, you are still welcome to watch the community.

2. Disagreement is all right, but please be polite to everyone. And use LJ-cuts for really long entries. People will obviously not agree on everything in a debate, and that's okay and even encouraged. That said -- even though we're all familiar with it now -- we should all be civil towards each other. No ad hominem attacks or anything like that.

Also, please be polite to the studio. Debating the merits of interpretations they made for the show is fair, but comparing the show to the contents of the Augean Stables is a no-no.

3. Please be intelligent and mature. Or just use common sense. You need not be a classics scholar to start or join discussions! We're all here to learn, but please keep the discussions smart and if you don't know something, research it. I'm not looking for PhD dissertion seriousness and we should all have fun, but please avoid what I'm going to call 'fangirling' posts -- eg. shipping wars, so-and-so is so hot, COTT is the bestest eva!!, etc.

We watch our own here, so if you feel a post is out-of-line, please say so. The first two immature posts get warnings, and the third gets you booted out of the community.

4. NO advertising of personal sites, fansites, fanfiction, etc., even if it's relevant to the show, mythology, etc. In other words, remain on-topic and don't make it about you. It's okay to link back to webpages where you found interesting information, but please don't join the community just to pimp-out personal projects. I'd like to keep this community discussion-based as much as possible. If you do want to promote something 'Class of the Titans'-related, try [info]cott101.

As with immature posts, off-topic or promotional posts will get warnings the first two times, then the boot.

5. Topics DON'T necessarily have to be about mythology and classical studies. But please keep discussions about shipping and romance to a minimum. While scholarly discussions -- especially about the mythology and classics behind the show -- is the main purpose of the community, we also welcome more general topics like character development and psychology, analyzing plot and storytelling structure, etc. Basically, as long as it's intelligent, we love it.

Also -- shipping is such a thorny fandom issue that I need to address it directly. I don't mind as long as it's intelligent, but for the most part, please keep it to a minimum. Rabid shipping and shipping wars won't be tolerated here, as they're tiring and NOT the purpose of the community. Again, two warnings and you're out the third time.

Those are all the rules for now, and I may change, add, or delete them at my discretion. I will always, however, make a mod post in the community about it so that everyone knows. If you're still interested in joining us, then please go here and follow the instructions. If you have any questions, please e-mail me at age.of.silicon@gmail.com. Thanks!
