[info]sanosuke_hidane: Um, newbie here and currently confuzzled!

Hello all!  So, I have a dilemma.  I'm sure it's an easy problem to fix, but I'm new to the whole sewing thing and I just need someone to explain to me what to do.  So, I have a men's shirt that I'm trying to make into a woman's shirt.  I'm having trouble with the arm holes and shoulders.  Because the arm holes for the men's shirt are huge and I'm trying to make them smaller, what should I do to go about that and the sleeves?

thanks!

[info]starbreaker85: Tricorn Hat

I need a tricorn hat tutorial.  My google-fu has failed me.  All I've found is a tutorial at ehow.  I'm mostly disappointed with the crown, as I'd like to make a smaller brim, and the crown would show more.  I'm thinking a perfect circle is the wrong shape, and I should be going for an oval crown.  I'm also debating what to use for shape, would some of the stiffest interfacing do?

Thanks in advance!

[info]schucosplay: Historial/old fashioned patterns?

[Bad username:   Hey guys, does any of you know where one can find historical/old fashioned patterns (19th, 20th century) online? I've tried searching, but the results I get are rather vague, so any pointers are very welcome!]

[info]ravenfrogsuperk: Carriage Warrior Victorian?

So with the success of my Shoulder Armor of Doom, I plan to wear it with my Red Victorian outfit for LoJ, but now I need more, because one accessory does not a costume make. So I am thinking Road Warrior-ish, Steampunkish Victorian. I will probably get a whole bunch of costume nazis all twisty in the skibbies, but I don't care. But I need ideas of what to add to my costume. Hopefully thing that I can make myself cheaply with one arm, or by someone else. I feel I need a mask or eye peice of some sort, maybe something for my right side to even out the look, and a purse/satchel/pouch/belt pack(?) to hold my wallet and a cigar. The eye peice or mask should be glasses compatible. The wallet holder needs to be open/closable with one hand. Any ideas?

[info]ko_pilot: Attn: Mech/Transformers cosplayers

I just wanted to let you guys know that I started a mech/robot/Transformer costuming forum. Basically it's meant to serve as a resource and place (for me, mostly, haha) to store links and document projects and stuff. Not sure if any of you actually do those kinds of costumes, but I thought I'd just put it out there since the information about this strain of costuming seems pretty scattered.

[info]dewyeyed: Boot making: Your ideas and creativity needed urgently

x-posted to other comms:

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone could help me with a little problem I have! My costume exam is in 12 days!

How do I turn this:

(old ballet shoes)

using this:

(white velvet)

into this:

(its supposed to be white not brown)
A generic pair of boots with a Native American inspired kinda fringe! I also plan to do some beadwork patterns on the velvet.

I have hardly any experience with sewing (just started this year) let alone making boots. The boots must be made for a dancer (hence the ballet shoes). So if anyone could offer me ideas, give me a pattern, or nudge me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you so much in advance.

Jacq.

[info]kc_risenphoenix: Please Don't Be Offended - I NEED HELP!

Hey!

I NEED HELP!

I don't have a lot of costuming skills, although with help, I've come up with some stuff I am very proud of.

Anyway, I am going to this charity even where there is going to be a Jesus Contest! It is done in fun, and not to offend anyone. Four men will pose as Jesus, and then money will be put in jars as to who people think is the most real Jesus, the most sincere, the sexiest (please don't be offended) and the funniest. And Jesus laughed!

So, I need to come up with four VERY CHEAP costumes. They can even be tacky, so that people have to really work with what they are given. I've had mop heads suggested to me for wigs that I can dye brown, but the CHEAPEST I've found were about five bucks. $20 could work, but I want to make sure they would dye dark enough. Also, I thought of those grape wreaths and thought I could find the cheapest skeins of yarn I could find and superglue them to a wreath.

I mean, how else to do a cheap crown of thorns?

I also have NO idea how to so that diaper thing Jesus wore on the cross.

Please don't be offended at this request, and please help!

It is for charity! Only adults over 18 will be present.

Thanks!

[info]vellanya: Toga's

I am looking to make a 300 style toga/goddess costume for some of my fellow bellydancers. I was wondering if anyone had any links they could shoot on over to me as to how to drape the fabric for a toga/goddess style outfit. I need to be able to do it so that it doesn't slip around as the dancers are dancing.

Thanks so much.

[info]obscured_soul: Long blonde wig for sale!

For sale is a very THICK blonde wig with higlights and bangs. The only reason why I'm parting with this is because I realize blonde really isn't my color. =/

The wig has only been worn once for a maximum of... 2 hours? It comes around mid-back or more. I think my selling price is very reasonable ($35). I prefer paypal, but I will accept checks or money orders (or even trades). And yes, the price does INCLUDE SHIPPING. ^.^

[info]rebelfilms:

Quick question.
I am having to look into costuming an Elizabethan-era comedy stage show on a *money from jumble-sales* budget. We have only one "rich" character, the rest are whores, and yokels and such!

Has anyone any good links to costuming sites for such *un-rich* characters of the era, and any suggestions on the costuming on a next-to-nothing budget?

Thanks :)

[info]chartreusekitty: Celluloid Combs

I have a collection of about 20 or so vintage celluloid hair combs. I can't find any information about conservation of celluloid that is not specific to film media. Does anyone out there know about this or know someone who might?? Thanks!

[info]nefertarinami: Corset Pattern...?

Hello, first let me say I'm new to this community.

Anyways- does anyone know if there is a pattern for making corsets, and if there was, what type of fabric should I use?

Thanks for any info.

[info]fadingmemories: Leather for Spats??

I've got it stuck in my head that I simply must try my hand at making spats.  Knee high spats.  Problem is, I've never really worked with leather before, although it's something I've wanted to try for years.  I figure spats are a pretty simple project to start with.  I'd like to eventually make corsets with leather.

What type of leather would be ideal for this kind of project?  Any good sites I could buy leather from that have decent prices??

Thanks!!

[info]twilatee: Drawn thread work

So I was wondering... before I get from wondering, to doing...

Does anyone know of or has seen, an example of a drawn thread worked linen collar, in American Civil War period....???

I have all this linen, and I bought this sweet DMC needle work encyclopedia... and am LOVING the drawn thread cuffs on YWU...

But I'm not sure if this technique is applicable to mid 1800's.

Ideas anyone?
Thanks.

[info]wendyhouse: snap source?

Hi all --

I'm in search of SMALL 4-part snaps. No bigger than 1/4". I can't seem to find anything smaller than 3/8" (size 14).

Manhattan Wardrobe doesn't have them, Snapsource doesn't have them, Sewtrue doesn't have them.

Any suggestions?
