AboutAre you tired of poorly researched, poorly executed historical costume? Horrified by bad cosplay entries? Tired of the endless parade of shoddy workmanship and stupid questions?
This is the place for you. Vent all you want.
NOTE: Due to a high volume of applicants looking to cause drama, we have tightened our approval process. The mods check each potential member's LJ; if you have no costume-related interests, don't seem to actually MAKE any costumes, no readable posts we can look at, and/or are only a member of other snark comms, the chances that your request to join will be denied go up significantly. This applies ESPECIALLY if you seem to read a high proportion of snark or schaudenfreude.
Community Rules
The idea is to bring your snarkiness about costuming here, and leave it here. Crossposting for the purpose of grudgewank, dramamongering, or starting a flamewar will only get you banned. The rules are simple:
1. This is a closed community. Membership is moderated. No, that won't be changing.
2. Posts should have something to do with costuming. Don't post your quiz, your poetry, or a picture of yourself in your Victoria Secret underwear here; please to be taking that someplace else. There’s no need for an introduction, either, we’re all costumers here.
3. We highly recommend scrolling back to read a few or twenty back entries and cop a feel for this community. Laugh or hurl? Up to you. If it’s not to your taste, feel free to hit the line right up there that says “leave this community.”
4. We are not a help community. We are a snark community. You have been warned.
5. All posts are now set to automatically friends-lock. No, that won't be changing either. Do not unlock your posts. Ever.
6. Standard rules of netiquette will apply. Trolls, spammers, and internal flame wars will be heavily moderated as the moderators see fit, up to and including immediate bannination.
7. Please place all large posts, photos, etc behind LJ-cuts. If you don't know how to do that, look here: http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=75).
8. As with all snarking communities, be prepared to don your Big Boy or Big Girl Panties and TAKE IT LIKE AN ADULT if you are brave enough to dish it out. Why, yes, we eat our own. However, see rules #10 and #11.
9. Some minor controls on bogus accounts/sockpuppets have been put in place; if you're trying to join and feel you've been banned unfairly, let us know. *ONE* email will do, thanks.
10. This should be common sense, but it seems that folks tend to forget that this is *snark*, not cattiness or character assassination. Keep personal insults, the shit-slinging, and personal beefs out of this community. We have shiny new Mod Sticks of Smiting, and we'd rather not break them over your head.
Example: You can complain about the behavior, but not the person behind the behavior, e.g., don't attack the person. This is demonstrated by the following:
"Telling us your life story doesn't guarantee we care to hear it."
Which is not the same as:
"You, (naming a name which is another BIG NO-NO), are a gluteal chapeau."
11. Do not carry snarkiness into communities or journals that are not designed for that purpose. Keep it here in![[info]](http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/community.gif)

12. Do not disable, freeze, screen, or delete comments ever for any reason. Do not delete posts. Delete nothing. No deletion! Deletion will get you the Ban-Hammer for either a week or permanently, depending on the seriousness of the offense.
13. Praise to Balance the Snark. This should be self-explanatory.
14. Do Not Piss In The Community’s Cornflakes. As an example, don’t make a sour comment to a “Praise to Balance the Snark” post, or cause unnecessary drama with another user or for the mods. Just don’t. We will put you in the Time-Out box by banning you for exactly one week. You will retain your membership and you’ll be quietly let back in, wiser for the experience. We hope.
15. Do not harass users in their personal journals. IF WE DISCOVER THAT YOU HAVE POSTED OBSCENITIES, INSULTS, THREATS, ETC...IN ANYONE'S PERSONAL JOURNAL AS A RESULT OF ANYTHING POSTED HERE, WE WILL REPORT YOU TO THE ABUSE TEAM OURSELVES.
If you feel that a rule has been violated, if someone from this community is trolling your personal journal, or you have a problem with a member, please contact a mod. LJ has a message function that works very nicely at the top of the profile screen.
If you decide you don't like the snarkiness, you have an easy option. There's a link at the top of the community info page that reads "to leave this community." Use it.
Anyone behaving inappropriately will be moderated to the full extent of the mods' time and patience.
