Coupla things

Thank you to whoever deleted that little troll from earlier today - and yes, the tags were mine.
Onto the main reason for this post now: Anybody hear anything about what's gonna be happening with the Charity Cosplay? I'm sorry I can't be more involved with it; I don't get back to NZ until December, so proper conversations are somewhat on the tricky side.

Ticket Sales for the Ball

There is going to be a planning meeting TOMORROW, which is the 30th of December at 6:30 pm at Gloria Jeans in Borders, at which point tickets will be available for sale. I will be there early, hopefully around six, for more ticket sales. I WILL have change for $30's or $40's.

I know that this is quite late in the evening for many of you to be in town, but sorry I can't promise I'll be in town any earlier as I have the rest of my life chasing me down right now and Sylvie can't get off work until that late.

So there will also be ticket sales in Borders on the 31st of December, some time in the morning. I think 10-12 atm - I will sit in Borders and read some manga and annoy people by not buying anything.

To recap - 30th - 6:00 till closing in Gloria Jeans in Borders
             - 31st - 10:00-12:00 am in the Manga section.

As always, if you want to arrange outside these times PM/email me and I will get in touch. Or bank deposit and I will post em.

Teddy Bears Picnic: Are you ready?

Where: Frank Kitts Park.
When: 11.30am - whenever you get sick of us.
What: Teddy Bears Picnic.
What: A fun little picnic, equiped with games to play, people to talk to, and food to eat!

Bring:
- Your smiles.
- A plushie/toy of some sort.
- Friends! The more the merrier!
- A plate of food to share, a bag of chips, just whatever kind of food you'd like to bring. - We need some people to provide DRINKS and CUPS.
- We also need people to pray for good weather and no wind. C:
- Cosplay: This is a casual cosplay meet-up, which means you don't have to dress up at all if you don't want to. If you would like to, go ahead! If you're unsure, then maybe just wear one piece of a cosplay!

Also, I will be bringing blankets to sit on, but there might not be enough. So bring some of those, if you like. Or you can just sit on the grass.

Good? Good!

See you all there! If you have questions, post 'em now!! O:

There's also me, [info]bakaknight. You probably won't be seeing me around for a while though - I'm currently based in Canadaland, learning how to be a Police Officer.

Community Rules:
Don't swear at anybody.
No. Personal. Attacks. I have a banhammer, and I am not afraid to use the thing.

Picnic Rules
1. Decided to come? Make a post or PM us or even send an email! We want to have a rough idea of how many people will be coming, and if you have any suggestions we want to hear them!

2. Cosplaying is very strongly encouraged, but you don't have to. Heck, throw something together and claim it's a cosplay! Use an old cosplay, we don't mind at all. Original cosplays are definitely accepted. But please make it somewhat practical as there will be activities. Overly-skimpy or innapropriate cosplays are not encouraged. (Because there may just be children there. Also, let's face it, the sorts of places we're likely to cosplay at? Are really, really, really cold. And windy. Let's not forget the windy...)
Please ask us if you're uncertain! If you're stuck for ideas, dress in a black suit with a white shirt and maybe a tie, bring a fake weapon, do some makeup or scars and be a Turk!
In short: If you think it's okay, then we do too. Make it practical and comfortable, and if it doesn't cover a decent portion of your skin, you're better off asking.

3. If you're planning on coming, please bring a Picnic lunch with you, else - you - will - starve! And I wouldn't recommend sharing food with a person you only met two seconds ago either! D': If you forget, pick something up from New World on your way over ;3

4. Please behave well with good manners!. This is supposed to be a fun event, and no bullying or harassing will be tolerated for any reason.
Remember, not everyone has the time, means or skills to make a perfectly wonderful costume, so please don't comment on this as we are all cosplayers together. If you start to behave badly, you will be asked to leave. But we're confident that no problems like that will arise at all.

5. Props. Ah, how we love them. Now, these can be made of any material, but if they're made of wood or metal or some similar heavy substance, we ask you to please keep them safely tucked away, and only take them out for pictures. If you want to wave them around make absolutely sure no-one else is in the vicinity. If you want to perform a skit, make sure you know what you are doing, so that it doesn't fly off and hit someone in the head.
Note from [info]bakaknight: Nothing that's actual weaponry, please. If you must have a gun or knife of some kind, ensure that it is entirely (and preferably obviously) fake. Better yet, use subterfuge (need a knife/gun? Stuff an empty holster for the thing!); it's effective, and you're far less likely to be arrested for carrying a dangerous weapon.

6. No alcohol please, because there will probably be people there that are under the drinking age, and we don't want to encourage underage drinking.
Note from [info]bakaknight: Drinking, particularly in a public place, will not be tolerated. Nor will anybody turning up under the influence of any illegal substance/anybody consuming or utilising any illegal substance during the course of the picnic. This rule is non-negotiable. I do not want to arrest anybody when I get home, but I will if needed.

7. Most importantly of all, have fun!

Note: All rules may be subject to change. If you think you might be breaking any law by doing something... Don't do it. Really.

Last minute chance to get input on date.

We have been discussing the DATE of the Teddy Bear's Picnic over DeviantArt and the Cosplay Forums, so I think we should get input from LJ too. =D

The SIXTH OF DECEMBER is the intended date.
Do a lot of people have problems with this?

It would be a SATURDAY. We are not sure about times, but we believe it would start in the afternoon! Input on the time is good too. Leave a comment and tell us what you think.

Today's the day the Teddy Bears have their PICNIC. :D

If you go out into Wellington soon,
On a lovely warm summer's day~
If you go out in into Wellington soon.
You'd better go in disguise cosplay!

For every cosplayer that ever there was
Will gather there for certain, because
Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic!
- I edited it a bit. =D

So, since the whole 'after mock exams' thing didn't really work out at all - I suggest one for after the REAL EXAMS.

Some fun outing that we can just be silly with. And the weather is so wonderful right now, so I suggest a picnic. Oh, but not just any picnic. A TEDDY-BEAR PICNIC. (Or a PLUSHIE PICNIC, if you have no teddy-bears!)

Why?

Because exams are for older, more serious people, and I want to have some fun being childish instead! It could be casual cosplay, so that you don't get any food on costumes or plushies (!!!), and we could play stupid games like Blind Man's Bluff, Stuck in the Mud, Egg & Spoon races, Duck Duck Goose, Kick the Can...

You know, all the traditional children party games. =D
Lets have a fun afternoon being silly and childish, and forget about adult responsibilities maybe~

Sound good?

THERE IS A DEMAND FOR PHOTOS.

Wellington Cosplay Ball - Venue update.

Hey guys,

Instead of working on either my Masters or my NaNoWriMo I went down to the St Andrews on the Terrace today to ask them about booking their Hall. It's $25/hour, 5 mins walk to the train/bus station, on a very regular bus route (although less so on Saturdays) and in a quiet part of town (on the weekends the Terrace is DEAD).

This is just pencilled in at present - there are two major issues. One is numbers: can I PLEASE have some indication of how many people so I know if it will be big enough? Just PM me and say if you're coming and if you are bringing friends, it'll take 30 seconds! PLEASE?

Second issue is : is it nice enough? Bearing in mind that we're all destitute for one reason or another and that we can decorate the heck out of it and getting a nicer place may bump it out of the budget of many of us. But if I organise to go and look around at it (I've been inside once but it was a little while ago) does anyone want to come with me to see it?

Thanks for reading NOW TELL ME IF YOU'RE COMING!

EDIT: Hey guys, I'm not actually a grouch monster (sister says I seem seriously grouchy, and I didn't mean to be at all!)  And also the date.

So at the moment the date is planned for 10 January next year. I tried really really hard to contact people and spread the word so we could get consensus about dates and other fun things like food, I was told DA was the best place to go so I did I am REALLY sorry if this doesn't work for people. Really sorry coz we should all be there and celebrate fun-ness together.

I got a bit angsty coz I have heard from heaps of people OUTSIDE Wellington that they'd be delighted to come but never seemed to get any responses from people IN Wellington. And maybe I just suck at plugging, and DA was apparently the wrong place to be (tooo many websites, my poor brain....). I'm not really grouchy!! *big smiles*

Just letting you all know!

Okay, I don't know why people keep saying the date has changed. @_o

The Zoo party is on Tuesday, 11th November.

That's 1 week and 1 day from today!

If you can't make the whole day, that's fine! Some people will be coming later in the day after class/work. That's cool too (last zoo entry is around 4pm-ish, just an FYI).

Do not forget this date! It has not changed. :3

Hope to see you all there!

Wellygeddon Events Planning is happening on CNZ

Hey guys!!

Having missed out on the Zoo meetup entirely due to not being connected to the right people on YET ANOTHER website, I've joined this one too! LJ is a scary scary place...THERE ARE TOOO MANY WEBSITES! I have things to do! ... Actually thats a lie. I don't.

But, and I'm sure this is a gross violation of many protocols, I'm alerting you all to the fact that brainstorming is occuring on the CNZ forums.

Wellinton Cosplay Ball - currently scheduled January 2009: http://cosplaynewzealand.forumotion.com/wcp-wellington-cosplay-ball-f15/

Probably more aggressively, is the brainstorming for WellyGeddon 2009 being undertaken by those who have just finished at AucklaGeddon. I think it would TERRIBLE if the Wellingtonians were left out of this, and for more reasons than just inter-city pride! There will be mix-ups and confusions and people giving judges and Bill all sorts of different information and in general this NEEDS to be co-ordinated. And frankly, the Aucklanders outnumber us :D The discussion is happening here: http://cosplaynewzealand.forumotion.com/wellygeddon-f9/cosplay-events-brainstorm-t1617.htm If you don't want to join the forum, cool, I'm volunteering to co-ordinate conversations BETWEEN the different websites. PM me or whatever LJ has (I joined 20 minutes ago, have not figured it all out yet...) Like I say TOOO MANY WEBSITES. But I think it's crucially important that this organisation is coordinated, not left to one group who doesn't communicate to the majority of the people who will actually BE at Wellygeddon. CONTRIBUTE!!!

A very similar diatribe has been posted on the WellyCosplayBall DA that I run - none of you contribute to that either!! :-P

Again with the zoo party? Official date now!

Okay guys! For those who don't watch me over at DA.

The Wellington Zoo Party is now set. Tuesday November 11th.

Zoo opens at 9:30am and that's when I'll be there at the front. 20-odd minutes after opening we'll head off into the zoo. If you come late no worries - you'll find us. :3 I'll be there from opening to closing, pretty much.

Lunch at the Chimps will be somewhat late-ish. About 1:30pm (after the Tahi the Kiwi show) - up at the Chimp lawn.

Talks that day...buh...if I can remember:

10:30am - Otters
11:00am - Monkey Island
11:45am - Either Tigers, wild dogs or Sunbears
12:15pm - Tiger, Sunbear or Baboons
12:45pm - Chimps (AWESOME talk on a sunny day)
1:15pm - Tahi the Kiwi
(Giraffe talk is at 2:15 for those who are keen - you get to feed them)
2:45pm - Cotton Top Tamarins
3:15pm - Reptiles
3:45pm - Lemures

We don't have to attend ALL talks as most of the day is hanging out and having fun.

I'm also sorry that this is kinda a hard time for those still in high school, but there's no way to get a date that can work for everyone. Weekends are no good for me and thus it's a big factor into the date choice (It's a day I'm not working/don't have to run a zoo sleepover that night).

Food: Bring your own or buy from the cafe at the front or the zoo Kiosk (does hot dogs, chips, sammiches and the like) either way, let's picnic it outside! :D

Dress: Either casual clothes or casual cosplay. You can go all-out cosplay if you want but you'll probably be one of the few! Casual cosplay's pretty much the casual-clothed characters (Ie - Michelle may do Luffy if she comes, ect).

I'm also gonna bring along a book for you all to write/sign/draw in for me since it will be my last time seeing many of you before I jump-gun and leave the country. :<

So yes, RSVP here or note me at DA or such so I have an idea of how many are coming. Thanks to those who already have!

Hope to see ya there! :3

Updated on the Zoo meet-up.

Hey guys!

In relation to my earlier post about a zoo meet-up/my leaving party in November, I have some rough dates to go by but I just need advice.

* I hear study leave for high schoolers is gonna start in early November, correct? Would it bother anyone if it's on a study-leave day (or in this case, no parents getting upset if you take just one day off?)

* It will be before the 13th November, I know that much.

* Is it important to have it on a weekend, or can it be a weekday? (I'm usually shifted to actually WORK there on weekends, you see - but I should know my work dates for November in the next week or so).

* I probably can't do ones on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th as I'm doing Zoo Sleepovers in the evening.

* Just as a side-note, the zoo entry fee is now $18 (understandable with how the price of food, power ect is rising, and the zoo IS a charitable trust).

Any suggestions you'd like to throw my way I'm all ears. So glad to hear people are interested - and PLEASE do spread the word to others who aren't on Live Journal.

I'm gonna miss you all! ;__;

Sakura Festival in Palmerston North

(If you haven't seen Kylie's post below, go read it first!)

Hey all, how's it? :) Long time, no post.

I just thought I'd inform you lot (on short notice, I know... NCEA2 sucks) that the Sakura Festival will be held in Palmerston North at the IPC Campus on Saturday the 20th of September from 11am to 4pm and Wissy has organised a Cosplay meetup there! Shoop-da-whoop! :D

There's some more information here on the Manuwatu Events Calendar and here on Wissy's deviantART Journal (with a cute picture of Wissy and co. in Yukata :D)

I *hope* to be there myself, but of course I can't guarantee that. XP

Anyway, I hope some of you can attend! ^__^

Curious as to a November meet-up. Cosplay optional. X3

Hope no one minds me posting this.

So it just got confirmed today that I'll be leaving New Zealand at the end of this year, roughly about November 20th.

Since I've met and made so many great friends through this community and cosplaying both in Wellington and elsewhere in the country, I wanted to know if people were up for a get-together before I leave so that I can say goodbye?

Personally, I'd love to have it at Wellington Zoo. True, it costs to get in ($15) but it's honestly my second home since I work there so much and it's a great environment. Plus, the zoo could use the money since it works as a Charity trust. There's so much to see and do and on the plus side - you'll get me as a guide for the whole day as well. Usually you'd pay $120 for just an hour with a guide - so while I'm tooting my own horn here, it's a bonus to the day?

Not sure if it should be cosplay related or not. I probably won't, but that doesn't mean others can't go wild if they want to. X3

I propose a day at the zoo with a big picnic lunch up by the chimp block (the chimps are awesome show-offs. A good lunchtime show!)

I'm curious as to if people are interested in this? And also what the best dates are? I know Uni would have finished by then but high schoolers will be mid-exams if I'm not mistaken. So dates that are good and bad? Weekdays or weekends (weekdays might be better for me, but I'll know in October what my work times will be like).

This is also a November date I'm looking at, also. Needs to be a few days before the 20th, at least.

Um...yeah. Gonna miss you guys. ;_;

All for an outing?

(This is cross-posted on my DeviantArt journal. Spread the word!)

I'd like to suggest the idea of a post-exams outing, just to lighten the mood a little bit after all this studing! =DD

So, I'd like to know what date you finish your exams and paper-writing and general mayhem! We can pick the latest date from the lot and then set a day for sometime after that.

I propose (SAY I DO) that we don't make it a cosplay meet-up, because;

a. It's hard to kind of unmuddle your brain that much after exams.
b. It'll be cold! Really cold!
c. Maybe we should just have a let loose, no frilly costumes to mind, hang-y out-y outing.
c. Yeah, I can't be bothered. Can you?

If anybody protests, we could make it a cosplay outing, though.

Meet-up place and time will be discussed and finalised later to the date.

All I want to know is what date your school/university relinquishes you from its evil clutches!

Thankies! And good luck for your tests and such~

- Caddyl.

EDITS:

Victoria Uni - No later than 10th November.

Keysha threw in the idea of having one cosplay item - like a fave part (a coat, a wig, a hat, small prop ect), and I think this is a nice idea. People can come in cosplay if they wish, but if you wish for something easier, you could wear just one item.

Or nothing at all. (Er, just normal clothing, don't come nekkid. D: )
