Tomorrow, Saturday the 27th of September 2008, there will be a special day at the Ulster Folk&Transport museum in County Down (Northern Ireland). On this day we'll take a closer look at all the latest fashion from those bygone days. There'll be demonstrations of shoe making, hat trimming and, of course, corset making. All done using the traditional tools and trades of those earlier days.

I myself featured in a newspaper article, which can be viewed below;

I can't believe the way the article turned out! It's amazing how much info the interviewer got out of our 2/3 minute phone conversation. Shame the photographer didn't use one of the images I was smiling in, but I do look super focused in that image! Great advertising for Pfaff sowing machines as well!

So, if anyone happens to be near County Down tomorrow, I recommend giving the Ulster Folk museum a look. It's going to be a blast!

Haha! I had a friend visit last night and we talked about all sorts of things but only made passing mention of Sylvia and her corset. (Sylvia is my dummy and she's currently wearing the first corset I made and some mini top-hats pinned to her shoulders.)

Said friend, however, made the fatal error of asking me this morning about corsetry and I got all carried away by all the new history and theories I'm learning! Bless, I don't think I was too boring!

A lot of my non-crafty friends do seem fascinated by this new skill I'm learning though. I think because corsets are so loaded with possible meaning. Has anyone else had this experience with their friends? I'm hoping that I can use some of my mates for practice in drafting and fitting, any advice or thoughts? Are friends too kind or too critical?!

I come across a set in a "not far from my home" family stock of 4 corsets , but i afraid i can't buy them all so if someone could go on an offer for one or two i could buy the whole set and dispatch (Arrgg my heart will break on this idea to separate this set).But i really can't go on all as i just buy another recently(incluse a pic just for your eye).
I could send other pictures and details on each corset as some got steel bones or real whale bones,both(A,B),missing bones(C),wood (D i think) corded....
Also does anyone could go on dates for those babies and did you ever see the removable bones system of the second one.
I would love to get the A and D one for myself.Well i will try!!

I just done the whole photos tonight and the corset gone till sunday they come back for one day to draft the patterns.

I have this beautiful and one of a kind real steel corset for sale.
this was custom made for me few years back when I lived in South Africa
and had this crazy obsession with medieval Catherine de Medici, who
enforced corset wearing to all people in her kingdom and she herself wore a special
steel bodice for tight lacing all the time all the time!

Sadly my waist has expanded quiet some inches the last few years and this no longer fits me.
so i am looking for a new and loving home for this special garment.

it's made from extreemly strong silver steel, backed with leather for
a little comfort.
it laces with gromets both front and back.
and has 4 big O-rings attached with leather at the bottom
for creative attachments.

measurements
lacing completley closed: -underbust: 24"   61cm
                                               -waist: 21" 54cm
                                               -stomach: 29"   74cm
                                               -front busk: 9 1/2"   25cm
                                               -centre back: 9 1/2" 25cm
                                               -sides: 7" 17.5 cm
I never used to wear it fully closed but at about 10 cm opening at the back which looked very nice showing off the
laces. it is also designed that the top and bottom of the back are more apart when laced so that more pressure
is on the tightness of the waist.

and this is the original corset Catherine de Medici used to wear.

Hi corset friends,

I have bought this corset for a good friend from ebay, but now as she has tried it on it does unfortunatly not fit her.

It is a "off the rack" corset in a standard 22" size.

But as venus corsets does offer some special sizing, this is an extra long corset for a long torso. And it is made for bigger breast, and it only will fit a very full full B ( no guarantee) better a C or a tiny D cup.

So, nothing for ladies like me. I would keep it for myself if it would nearly fit me in the breast part because I really like the way this is made. And as I can say, the quality for a off the rack corset looks very okay to me.

Well, you can check their HP ( www.venus-corsets.com) for more information and pictures. I try to descripe as good as I can with a lot of pictures behind the cut:

Fabric:

it is a strong cotton outside fabric with siverish flowers and leaves. It is pure white, and the flowers are shiny and reflect in a siver shade, depends of the light. Actually they are white too.
The outside fabic is very nice and straight, does not have any wrinkles....

The inside is a strong cotton fabic as well, looks a bit like coutil, but I am not sure about thatit is cotton for sure. It does have a waist tape inside.

Busk:

It is 14 " ( 36,5cm) long, narrow in the top part and bigger in the bottom. It feels like there is an underbusk, or at least a stong flat steel bone under one part of the busk.

Measurements:

Waist size 22", front lengh middle 15,5 ", back in the middle 14,5" sides: 12,5".

Bones:

A lot of them in different sizes as you can see in the pictures. It feels very comfortable ( sure, I tryed it on too, hehe).

Condition:

It has very tiny signs of waering, but you can tell it has not been worn a lot. The seller said it has only been worn one time, and I can say it looks very nice and it does not have any damages.

I also would trade this corset for another corset, maybe.
Or, something like a victorian bustle skirt. Also I am looking for a pair of pennangalan boots, I wear size UK 5 , so I would need a UK 6 as they run so small.

Natural Form era

This book is in pretty good condition. The spine is off, but present so it is fixable. The boards are hanging on the threads, but if taken care of will stay there for a while. 11 fashion plates present. Overall pretty good condition.

High Bustle era

Very Good conditon, the front board is a little fragile. There are 12 fashion plates one is split in half, but is completely present. One other has about a 2" split, but that is all.
