Parking Advice
Hi there, My boyfriend and I are buying a new car. However, we live at a place in downtown Ithaca that does not have covered parking. We only need the car for weekly grocery shopping and occasional long-distance trips, so the parking place does not have to be super close to us but accessible. Any suggestions? Thank you! | | Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 | 6:32 pm [ithaca_tng]

young & kinky?
Ithaca TNG ("the next generation of kink") is a pansexual social, educational and support group for local individuals aged 18-35 who are interested in BDSM. Some of the events we hold include munches, workshops/demos, discussions, kinky gift exchanges and movie nights. Our next munch will be on Thursday, December 10th at 7:30pm at Stella's Cafe (403 College Ave) [ map]. Look for the black stuffed bear wearing yellow rope. (And the crowd of people taking up several tables in the middle of the room!) A munch is a social gathering where you can meet other kinky people in a casual, low-pressure environment. Please dress appropriately (i.e. no fetish wear), and do not bring toys. There is no cost to attend, other than any food or drinks you choose to purchase. The munch is a monthly event. The tentative date for the next one is January 7th. Contact ithaca.tng@gmail.com or join the mailing list for more information. | | Tuesday, December 1st, 2009 | 12:33 am [skreidle]

Hello! My name is Lena. I am a student. I am writing my term paper " associations about managers". I have to carry out a poll public opinion... Please, answer some questions and you’ll help me (just what you personally think, your associations): 1. Behave like a Manager, that is(continue)...2.Work like a Manager, that is(continue)...3. What features do belong to the Manager? 4. What are your associations with the word "Manager"? | 12:46 am [skreidle]

Five Guys downtown!
Woohoo! Just picked this up on Facebook: "Ithaca, NY now has a Five Guys!!! Find it at 222 Elmira St., Suite 1, Ithaca, N.Y. 14850. Head on down if you are in the area!!!" They have just about the best burgers anywhere, all toppings included in the reasonable price, the best peanut-oil fries ever--a generous helping--and free peanuts while waiting. Head downtown to the Ithaca Shopping Plaza when you get the chance! :D ETA: Thanks to mhaithaca for this great description/review. :) | | Wednesday, September 9th, 2009 | 9:26 pm [skreidle]

Movers?
In a couple weeks, I need to move my belongings - including furniture - from Fall Creek to my new apartment near the Commons. Any suggestions on who I should hire to move my stuff? I plan to pack my things but I can't physically carry them myself. I heard that some Cornell students offer a moving service but I can't find anything online. Thank you! | | Tuesday, July 14th, 2009 | 7:49 am [cosmicwonder]

One Bedroom Apartment Available Starting in Fall Semester (near Commons and 10 Bus)
Hi there, I know this is a bit late but I'm trying to get someone to take over my lease before Fall semester starts. Here is the description: I really love this apartment and I wish I could stay, but the apartment can only legally have one tenant and my boyfriend and I have decided to move in together.
The rent is $730 a month, plus a $730 deposit. All utilities (electricity, heat, water, hot water, gas, and yes, even laundry facilities) are included in the rent and cats are permitted. The apartment can be furnished upon request. If you decide to rent this apartment, you would be taking over my lease, which lasts until July 31, 2010. The date of move-in is negotiable. I will be back from Europe on August 19th and can move out anytime after that, which leaves plenty of time for a Cornell or IC student to move in time for fall semester. I might also be able to have my things moved out earlier, as early as August 5th. Because I have already paid for the August 2009 rent, the first rent check by the new tenant would be for September 2009.
In addition, this apartment is well-located, about a five minute walk from the Commons and a two-minute walk from the 10 bus line, which runs every few minutes to the Cornell campus. The neighborhood is relatively quiet and ideal for a graduate student. If you or someone you know is interested in the place, please visit my cornell off campus ad where you can see pictures of the apartment, email me with questions and requests to see the apartment. Please feel free to email me with questions and to schedule appointments to see the apartment. Thank you! Edit: I'm having trouble with craigslist and I apologize for the link not working. If you would like to see the apartment please visit the cornell off campus ad. | | Wednesday, July 8th, 2009 | 3:50 pm [mhaithaca]

Eric Taylor on BFG - Free concert this Sunday!
On Sunday, July 12th, 2009, Bound for Glory continues our 42nd summertime and welcomes Eric Taylor! Join us, and bring a friend. The show is this Sunday, 8-11pm, in the Cafe at Cornell's Anabel Taylor Hall. The three half-hour live sets start at 8:30, 9:30, and 10:30 pm. FREE ADMISSION for you and a friend! "If you miss an opportunity to hear Eric Taylor, you have missed a chance to hear a voice I consider the William Faulkner of songwriting in our current time." -- Nanci Griffith Eric Taylor grew up in Atlanta, and started playing soul music in his early years. steeping himself in the rich cultural heritage of the black South. He set out to move to California, but only made it to Houston before running out of money, and the musical environment there was just the inspiration he needed. Taylor learned intricate blues guitar stylings from music legends Lightnin' Hopkins, Mance Lipscomb and Mississippi Fred McDowell while working at the Family Hand Club. If you're not familiar with Taylor by name, you've probably heard his songs performed by such people as Nanci Griffith and Lyle Lovett. Among his multitudes of fans and devotees are many musicians who are themselves legends in the singer-songwriter realm. A mesmerizing performer himself, Taylor has toured extensively in the United States and Europe, playing such notable venues as Club Passim, the Bottom Line, Caffe Lena, Paradiso in Amsterdam, Hotel du Nord in Paris, and the Bein Inn in Perth. Listing of New York Senators on the Fence or Opposed to Gay Marriage
20 senators publicly stated their support for equal marriage, 32 are needed to pass the bill. Please check this list and contact your state senator and urge them to support marriage equality for all couples. Marriage is a civil rights issue, nobody should be denied the 1,800 state and federal benefits that come with marriage, such as the right to visit a loved one in a hospital, file joint tax returns, co-adopt kids, and many other rights and privileges enjoyed by heterosexual couples. | | Monday, April 13th, 2009 | 1:06 am [niemandsrose]

taking the bus after dark
Hi all. I'm an incoming grad student looking at housing along the #30 and #10 buses, but hey, I just discovered that they stop running at 9pm and 7pm respectively. How can that be? How late is the library open? How the hell do I get home from the library at closing time? (Plus, 9pm is really early for theatre people. If you even go *see* an 8pm show, you'll miss the last bus, never mind being in rehearsal until 11pm.) Are my only options to either live in Collegetown (eew) or buy a car (eew)? | | Monday, March 30th, 2009 | 11:55 pm [melancholybliss]

Girl Talk ticket for sale
I bought a ticket for the Girl Talk concert this coming Sunday, April 5, but won't be able to go, since I am out of town and no longer want to take that time off from work. I want to sell it, if anyone is interested. $15 is what I paid, so I would like to get that back, but would also take less since it would be ony a partial loss. Let me know if you want the ticket and and I can send you the pdf of the ticket! Current Mood: blah | | Thursday, March 26th, 2009 | 1:28 pm [juicecasting] |
Hello Cornell Students, I thought some of you might be interested in this opportunity. We are a low budget independent feature film currently casting lead, supporting, and background parts. The film is about high school students who get involved in recreational steroid use. We are interested in working with young adults who can bring their own personalities and natural energy to the part, so formal training or experience are not necessary. Below you may find a description of the project, and the roles we are casting. There are also a number of small speaking parts, so any interested parties who don't fit one of the lead character descriptions are encouraged to email us anyhow. The lead and supporting actors will be paid (rate to be determined). We are directing people to send their submissions to juicecasting@gmail.com. Please note, this film will be shooting in the NY Metropolitan area in Summer 2009, so we are looking for people who can work as locals (so either residents of NY/NJ or people who will not need to be housed during the shoot) Best, Lucy ( Read more... ) | | Friday, March 20th, 2009 | 1:21 pm [richips]

ride?
Hi there, I was wondering if anyone happens to be planning to drive from the Boston area to Ithaca on March 31st? I have to get to an internship at Farm Sanctuary and it would be really helpful, as the bus is a bit of a disaster. Any help appreciated. Thank you! x-posted | | Sunday, March 15th, 2009 | 4:27 pm [mhaithaca]

Senseless Desecration
I'm still reeling from the news that the landmark Johnny's Big Red Grill sign was ordered removed from the front of the historic Johnny's building at 202 Dryden Road in Collegetown yesterday morning. I learned about the planned 8am removal a few hours earlier. This was reportedly done by order of the Ithaca Fire Department's fire marshal, Tom Parsons. I'm looking for further details. | | Thursday, March 5th, 2009 | 11:08 pm [dancinggurl01]
