Corgi beach party!

I took Bobby to see the ocean for the first time. Initially, he did not seem to know what to think of all this weird, cold, salty water. (It's Cannon Beach, OR.)

two questions i need educated answers to

1. i need a healthy dog treat--i feed morton solid gold wolf king

2. training morton to not pull on a lead--choke collar, front harness, prong collar.. what do you use? what do you think is most effective? i am really not partial to the thought of choking or poking him.. but if that is what needs to be done, i guess.. but it bothers me.

herding instinct

Hi Guys!

Quck question, how do you curb your dog's herding instinct, if at all? We are pet sitting two other dogs (a basset and a cocker) and Scully insists on doing the ear-nipping, circling, mouth-chewing, neck pulling ordeal. She dosn't herd us, just other dogs. Any tips? We have tried a stern "no!", "AH!", time outs, and just ignoring it, but nothing works. She will chew on our kitten's neck too, and while Kuma can take care of herself, with the dogs, it's a different story.

What should I do? Send her to a farm? Buy a sheep?  :P

Thank you in advance!

KayCee's face paralysis, an update

Some of you may remember this post in which I detailed my old pup KayCee's right-side facial paralysis. I realized today that I forgot to update you all.

The vet did some preliminary testing, but nothing terribly in depth, and determined that it was idiopathic (without cause) facial paralysis. Fatty was prescribed a low-dose steroid and some anti-inflammatory meds. They seemed to be working, and she regains partial movement of the ride side of her face!

Until today. :( We noticed that her left side is now fully paralyzed as well, and though her right has not gone back to full-on paralysis, the fact that the steroid did nothing to prevent the left side from following suit was terribly disheartening. :(

We are taking her back to the vet later this week, but I'm pretty sure it will involve MRIs and CT scans that we simply don't have the means to fund. Our plan, if there is nothing else that can be done, is to simply let her life out her older days and when her quality of life diminishes, let her go.

*sigh* I'm a mess.

Bored dog??

Fargo is 14 1/2 months old now and just last week I started to have problems with him destroying things while he is home alone. I came home on Thursday and two paris of my shoes were destroyed. He knows not to touch shoes and we have left him around them before and nothing has ever happend. Today I came home and there was a destroyed notebook and some boxes. I know he's bored, I know that's why he's doing this but I don't know what to do to entertain him.

I leave between 7 & 8 in the morning and then come home for lunch around 12:30 or 1pm. I take him out to go to the bathroom before I go to work an then again on lunch (sometimes I don't come home for lunch but it's maybe once every two weeks or so. My husband gets home around 5pm and feeds him and takes him out again. I take him to the dog park a few times a week, mostly on the weekend and he goes for a longer walk at night about 30 - 45 minutes.

What can I do for him while he's home alone? He LOVES to chew things up but he's not too interested in his toys lately. He has a basket of toys and it seems like he's not touching them lately unless I play with him. We do play ball in the house (he has a soccer type ball that he chases around) and fetch occasionally (but he hates giving up his toys) and tug-o-war. I'm also trying to do training/tricks with him again at night but it's touch and go on when I do it.

He has access to the whole living room and the tiny kitchen, we have him blocked off from the bedrooms and bathroom. We have two cats but he doesn't really play with them (they like it that way). I'm trying to be more cognicant of what is left out so he can't destroy things but I seem to miss something every now and then.

a story

Three years ago today, an alien landed on earth. She was told to collect as many objects as she could, starting from small ones and gradually getting larger ones. She was to roll these items into a ball so that the ball could then become a star in the sky.

But the alien had a different idea. She decided to collect the items in her stomach and become a star herself.

And that is what Foomin did.

Clearly she was insane, for this was an insane idea. But she did become a star, collecting many adoring fans.

Another insane idea was to act like a total floozy. And yet another was to be a total pest to her "big sister."

And there's many more years of this to come.

HAHAHAH YES YES YES YES CHINA UNBAN LIVEJOURNAL!!!!

HELLO folks!
despite me being in China, I can still post... :D china unbanned livejournal!

Bacon update:

1. He's like Best friend forever with my maid and mom now, so i have been gone for 3 days but he's fine, i will be back home this friday.
2. He still pisses at things when he's threatened - I am working around it slowly.
3. he finally master another 2 command. Paw (where he will raise his paw and give the lamest handshake) and Snuggle, where he will curl up into a ball.
4. he is one month late for his vaccination... because I freaking lost his vaccination papers. wil contact breeder (who lurks here) as soon as possible.
5. and last and certainly not least.... HE STOPPED CHASING AFTER DOGS AND PICKING A FIGHT NOW!!! YEAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!! gawd... finally all those bacon bits, chicken livers and cheese cubes pays off. with of course the 50 feet, 40 feet, 30 feet, 20 feet, 10 feet method.. which we practice with a stray dog. the downside is now, when he sees another dog he claws me and nip me a little demanding his treat... rascal. I cannot begin to even share how happy I am over this... sigh... I am trying to socialize him with smaller animals... and I think he got this morbid fear of rabbits... not fear as in "ooo rabbit hide / run", but as in... "OMG RABBIT.. BARK BARK BARK.. RUNS AWAY AS FAR AS POSSIBLE TO THE POINT OF SNAPPING MY COLLAR AND SEND DADDY RUNNING AFTER ME!" he is fine with cats.

Leeloo Update:

1. She will be shipped to Jakarta from Bologna Italy on October, which means she will be able to join my family by November (after 28 days quarantine)
2. She will be loved... :d can't wait... eeeeeeeeeeeek.

I AM EXCITEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD EEEKKKK
one pic of Leeloo (she's on the right)
and Athena her sister on the left.

Couple seeking corgi to coddle

Hello, all! I was a member of this community eons and eons ago, mostly to live vicariously through others' corgi ownership. Now that my fiance and I are ready to begin our search for a bunny-butted bundle of love to bring into our lives and spoil silly, I thought it'd be a great time to come back for some advice from fellow corgi lovers.

We're getting married in November, but we're not sure if we want a pup NOW (I mean, we're both chomping at the bit to add a four-legged member to our little family) or if it would make more sense/be more fair to a dog to wait until the chaos of the wedding is over. Either way, I'd kind of like to start considering our options so we can be prepared to become puppy parents.

I do have some questions before we begin our corgi quest. We've been reading about the breed as much as we can, but nothing beats firsthand advice.

-- I would like to rescue a dog, though my fiance (whose only experience with dogs was his parents' boxer he barely remembers) really wants to raise a puppy, so we've agreed that if we can't find a corgi or corgi mutt at a local shelter, our first dog will be from a breeder and we'll adopt the next pup. Does anyone know of a reputable breeder in the New Jersey/Philadelphia area? We would prefer a Cardigan, but we'd be equally as smitten with a Pembroke.

-- What kind of advice would you have for first-time corgi parents? I've grown up with dogs so I've seen them in all sorts of stages, but I'm just not sure if there are any surprises specific to corgis that we should be aware of.

-- Are corgis good apartment dogs? There's plenty of room both inside and out for the little guy to run around, and we are planning to crate train, but I just want to make sure that not having a yard for another a year isn't going to drive our poor pup mad.

Thank you so much, and take care!

Hi all :3

I'm new. I joined via the recommendation of a cool person in dog_lovers. But enough about me, I am boring. I'm here to introduce my little bud named Beaker.

Cut for pics! )

Anywho, sorry for the super long post. And also sorry for the quality of some of the pics. I tend to take a TON of shots of Beaker with my cell phone, and when we're inside the quality doesn't turn out so great. Hopefully I'll get some better shots soon.

Biscuit stopping by to say HOWDIE...

Just wanted to say hello...been a few months or so since we posted on here.
Biscuit does NOT like the 100+ degree heat here in Dallas right now.
He hardly goes outside now.
He isn't scared of the thunder itself, but HATES water/rain/getting wet. NICE.
Fun bath times and walks when it is drizzling.

He's gotten BIG...Not gigantic! Here are a few pictures taken early one morning at the dog park down the street...It's really nice, just a few blocks from home and fenced in.
It's his favorite place!
