For those of you who've been wondering where COOL JOKE has gone ... unfortunately, I can't tell you much, but maybe a little. First of all, the problem is that we haven't seen any releases from them in ages; their main website stopped existing; and CDJapan (English, at least) and other such stores seemed to stop having COOL JOKE in stores.

So what the heck is up?

From what I could puzzle out of the new (and pretty!) revamped website at www.cooljoke.net, the band was dropped from whatever major label it was on, starting with UNDO and onto the self-titled album. I'm guessing it's because they weren't successful enough. (In fact, I've been wondering whether bands can get "canceled" like manga can - apparently so). Fortunately, COOL JOKE didn't let them stop them, and are releasing again on an independent level. They're still touring and seem to have a new '06-'07 tour coming.

Sadly, I am not at all familiar with the stuff that shows up on COOL JOKE's discography page now, but these are their quite old indie releases so that's no big surprise... I have no idea where I could get my hands on copies of these CDs here in the States. Hopefully, though, the website's re-opening is a good sign, and maybe some singles containing new music can be expected in the near future...

Well, let's keep our fingers crossed. I'll keep you updated.

And remember, if you're missing pieces of your COOL JOKE discography, comment! I'll be glad to share the love. And if I've let you down before (I think you know who you are), I sincerely apologize! It's just so easy to get caught up in life and school and stuff. But really, it's a pleasure to share COOL JOKE with others, so do ask if you'd like anything!

Very good news! The tracklist for COOL JOKE's new album is now available!

Sorry about Track 8 here - I don't know that kanji, so I just left the whole title in Japanese. The alternate spelling I could have given would have been "Konna 夜 dakara".

Anyway, this looks pretty good. Five out of these twelve songs are new - while I may have wished for more, this is not at all surprising, and hey, five is quite a bit (two and a half CJ singles' worth). The only two already released CJ songs *not* on the album are "Aru ga Mama de" from the Ai no Chikara single and "Yoru to Nagareboshi" from the Sekai single.

Exactly two weeks lie between today and October 25th. I can't wait!!

Except that now you are faced with an anticlimax, because their entire discography consists of only four single (eleven songs) :-/

Very good news! Unless I'm somehow mistaken, it looks like COOL JOKE's first album has finally been announced, with a release date of October 26th! It will certainly include the A-sides of the four singles, and perhaps some of the B-sides, but we can only wait and see. Myself, I hope for as few B-sides as possible and as many awesome new songs as possible XD

As for the title? Well... it's called "Cool Joke" ^^;

EDIT: More information found! First of all, the album will be twelve tracks long, which I think is good enough, although of course I wish it had been longer. The first track will be one of 世界は君の手の中に、光は詩の中に's two B-sides (track 2 on the single), a song called 鐘を鳴らせ、感情論. Thus five of twelve tracks are accounted for. I wouldn't be surprised if ハッピードライブ・ヒッピーライフ, あるがままで, and ぶっ壊れた月 are on the album, too. The truth is, we'll just have to wait and see.
