Cookumentary
A Step-by-Step Photographic Journey
About:What is a Cookumentary?

A cookumentary is a photographic journal of a recipe from start to finish that documents each step of the cooking process.

What makes [info]cookumentary different from other recipe exchange / food photo communities on Livejournal?

The food-related communities on Livejournal are terrific - my cooking has benefited tremendously from the information and advice of other LJ users. However, for visual learners who want to try new cooking projects, simply seeing the finished product (or reading a text-only recipe) can leave something to be desired. If you're always second-guessing yourself when you approach a new recipe and asking yourself if you're really doing it right, it would be great to have a resource that would help you visualize the recipe coming together step by step. The positive responses that I received from other users when posting Cookumentary style posts gave me the idea to create this community.

Amateur Cooks Are Welcome!

* You do not need to have any formal culinary training to make your own Cookumentary.
* You may Cookument any recipe you wish (published or otherwise) - the only limit is your imagination.
* The recipe does not have to come out perfect. If your Cookumentary results in a disaster, post it anyway. Other members may be able to help you figure out what went wrong in the cooking process.
* Check out previous posts before making your first post for a helpful guide.

Cookumentary Rules & Guidelines

* All photographs must be behind a cut. (Limit 600 x 600) Cookumentaries are almost always extremely image intensive.
* If you are posting a recipe you found in a cookbook, please cite your source and/or include a photo of the cookbook.
* If you are posting a recipe you found online, please include the link.
* Provide a photo of the ingredients needed and the initial food prep.
* Provide a photo of each step of the cooking process. Continuous chronological photography is essential.
* Provide a caption for each photo to explain what you're doing.
* Provide a photograph of the finish product and a caption describing the outcome (flavors, etc).

Please refrain from:

* Poor grammar & spelling, including the use of internet slang (omg plz lol!!!1!!1!)
* Advertising your community here (such as food in general). If you think your community would be of interest to our group, please ask permission in [info]foodsforthought's personal journal before posting here.
* Mean-spirited snarking & general asshattery
* Off-topic posts (such as "How much time should I cook this roast?") When you actually cook it, show us!
* Failing to give proper credit to recipes / text that you did not create yourself
* Cookumenting inappropriate things. We would be thrilled to see how you make a perfect grilled cheese every time, but chances are we can figure out how to heat up canned soup in the microwave on our own.

If you fail to follow the guidelines, you will be removed from the community with the greatest of speed.
