Diced Caprese Salad source: Super Target Simple Solutions - easy meals in 30 minutes or less (recipe card from Target) ( recipe ) | | 11:02a |
So I've been put in charge of snacks & alcohol for a friend's half-birthday party coming up and I've decided to try the fruit slice looking ones. ( http://www.foodtv.ca/recipes/recipedetails.aspx?dishid=6412) What is the best way to hollow out the orange peels without damaging them? I'm thinking I'm going to do this with Limes, lemons and oranges (it's a hawaiian theme party). Anyone else have any ideas on what to do small snacky food wise that fits in with a hawaiian theme? | | 12:27p |
I would just like to say that I had entirely forgotten about the beauty of broccoli until last night. A roommate randomly brought home a replacement head because she'd stolen broccoli from me a long, long time ago, and I picked the florets apart and boiled for about four or five minutes (until bright green and just slightly softened), and ate it with soy sauce, butter and lemon juice.
It was so delicious I made two batches and ended up eating an entire head of broccoli in about 15 minutes.
And I normally kind of hate vegetables. | | 3:42p |
last weekend, i bought an eggplant to use this coming week. it looked perfectly fine when i bought it. however, this afternoon i noticed it has developed brown, soft spots on it. is it still ok to use or should i consider pitching it and picking up a fresh one?
thanks! | | 6:49p |
Pasta salad help? I want to make a pasta salad. I have rotini (that's the spirally stuff, right?), sun dried tomatoes, kalamata olives, and feta cheese. My problem is that I'm not sure what kind of dressing I want to make for it. Part of me is thinking of some kind of olive oil & balsamic vinaigrette thing, but I'm not sure if that would hold up to refrigeration as I slowly eat the leftovers over the next few days, since olive oil likes to solidify in the fridge. I'm also thinking about the lemon juice I have, and wondering if I can use that somehow. I have a fairly well-stocked kitchen, though nothing really exotic, and I'm willing to go to the grocery store if something really yummy catches my fancy. Mostly, though, I'm indecisive and I don't know what I want, so my culinary fate is in your hands. edit: the vinaigrette wins! And so to my taste buds, nom nom nom. Thanks! Tilapia Seviche (Ceviche) Last weekend my wife and I went to a Cuban restaurant and had a really excellent halibut seviche. We decided to reproduce it at home this weekend, with tilapia instead (being much cheaper). Thankfully the experiment turned out, and now I got a great seviche recipe.
1/2 lb tilapia fillet (about two fillets) 4 to 5 limes 1 mango 1/4 red jalapeño pepper 1/2 cup cooked black beans a good handful of cilantro (about 1/8 cup chopped) 1/2 red onion (about 1/2 cup chopped) 1/2 tsp salt 1/4 tsp pepper
Clean and pad dry the tilapia fillet. Cut into 1/2-inch pieces and put in a bowl. Add salt and pepper. Halve and juice the limes over the tilapia until all pieces are covered. Cover with plastic wrap and let refrigerate for one hour.
Chop the red onion into fairly small dice. Chop the red jalapeño finely. Peel the mango, and dice into small, 1/4-inch cubes. Remove as much as the stem as possible from the cilantro, and roughly chop. Add red onion, jalapeño, mango, cooked black beans, and cilantro to tilapia. Mix well. Transfer to a glass bowl if you want a dazzling presentation.
Serves 2 as part of dinner, 4 as appetizer.
This will probably work for all kinds of white fish since this was originally made with halibut at the restaurant. | | 11:53p |
Pork Loin Chops I bought two large packages of pork loin chops for tomorrow. I have 7 guests coming so I would like to find an easy, but tasty recipe for these chops. Ideally something in the oven or crockpot so that I don't have to stand over the stove for a long period of time. I tried searching on allrecipes but I didn't find anything inspiring. BTW I don't have any apples or apple cider although that seems to be a popular choice.
