Conzilla is History!
The 59th West Coast Science Fantasy Conference is over. Whew! What a time! Much fun was had by all. Despite lower attendence than expected, and a lot of last minute shuffling of programming (five people cancelled at the last minute), most of the problems went unnoticed. Some of the highlights: Fantasy Iron Chef defender "Iron Chef Conzilla" held back the challengers "Team Lokimen(?)" and retained the title! Ariel won the Robots Running Rampant competition, beating out two other teams, one led by an engineer! (Overdesign problems, anyone?) Twelve contestants won prizes playing Match Game SF, hosted by kevin_standlee Conrad T. Lizard introduced the guests and introduced a soon-to-be hit song, The Thing That Time Forgot Guest Walter Jon Williams declared the convention to be "all about me!" Las Vegas will host " Burning Fan," Westercon 61 in 2008. and lots of Great Programming, Movies, Anime, Parties and Friends! I'm sure everyone there had a good time. If you weren't there, you've missed a lot, but we'll see you at another con real soon now! Current Mood: relieved | | Saturday, June 24th, 2006 | 10:20 am [mik_el] |
"Superman Returns" Movie outing Friday afternoon at Conzilla For some of those of us who are arriving at Conzilla early, we're having a movie expedition on the afternoon of Friday June 30 to go see Superman Returns.
If you are interested in joining us, please email me at: mabloom@dslextreme.com
One can print out movie tickets (for some theatres) in the comfort of one's hotel room the same way one can print airline boarding passes and, by doing so, avoid having to wait in line to get tickets. I plan to bring a portable printer to the con, so we may be able to all have our tickets before leaving the hotel.
ALSO
If you are familiar with the movie theatres in the area, info on the theatres themselves would be appreciated. Useful data might be: "The seats at this theatre are more comfortable", "The lines for the concession stand are way too long" , etc . Again, please reply to mabloom@dslextreme.com | | Friday, June 23rd, 2006 | 12:00 pm [jbriggs]

Conzilla site down, including email
The Conzilla website has been down since approximately 6:30am today. Email forwards have been down since approximately 7:30am. Our host team is working on fixing the problem. In the meantime, if you need to get ahold of a Conzilla staff member and don't have a direct email address, post the problem here and we'll make sure it gets to the indended person. Thank you for your patience. James M. Briggs Chairman Conzilla, the 59th Westercon [Update: 12:20 pm] And of course, its now back up at 12:20. [Update: 2:00 pm] Apparently the configuration files on the DNS server [in India] were hosed. Problem gone away now! | | Saturday, June 24th, 2006 | 9:42 am [galtine1]

Just a reminder: Baseball Tickets are still available!! Baseball and SF....and a FREE replica Road JERSEY T-shirt!!
Upper Box 327, Row 1 Seats 6-12, Row 2 Seats 4-12, and Row 3 Seats 4-12. These are the $24 seats. No up-charge from the Group Rate. Recommend an email to me to confirm your interest. Payment at time of ticket pick-up by cash or check is fine. I will be available at the Convention Hotel afternoons of the 28th and 29th, and almost all day the 30th. Suggested trolly travel time is nearly an hour, so I suggest heading down a little earlier and enjoy a meal at one of the gazillion restaurants in the Gas Lamp or closer to the Park. UPdated to reflect change in the giveaway to a T-shirt Jersey rather than a Jersey. (sigh) | | Thursday, June 22nd, 2006 | 4:55 am [selinawoman]

Are you in need of a room mate at Conzilla??
You've got a membership, the time off from work, but the room rate is a little scary? Reply here to find a roommate for Conzilla. DISCLAIMER: Conzilla is not responsible for the loud snorer, early riser, hard-core filker, late night gamer you choose. It's you to both/all 3 or 4 of you to figure out if this will work for you. One of you will need to make the reservation and make sure that all your room mates are listed for easier check in. Figure out who's going to be first on site and have that person make the reservation; it's less headaches for all of us. Make sure you trade non-email contact information in a manner other than this thread so that when you are both standing in the lobby trying to figure out who's your room mate, you can call each other rather than look lost.
EDITTED JUNE 3, 2006: iF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A ROOMIE, PLEASE READ THROUGHT THE COMMENTS ATTACHED TO THIS POST. OR YOU CAN START YOUR OWN THREAD FOR A ROOMIE. Conzilla will not be placing people as roomies. We are not a "Housing Board". | | Sunday, May 7th, 2006 | 4:22 pm [jbriggs]

Convention Awareness???
Oaky, we all know when I see somethign that sparks me a bit, I can go on a tangent... give my opinions, get on a soapbox, try to get it out there, say what's on my mind. Or see a DAMN GOOD IDEA! Ahem! with my blondeness I have absorbed a new thing... okay, so it's not really new... but it's new to me, cause I didn't know what it was until last night.... (Thank you!!!!!!!!!! -- you know who you are... if you're reading this) so anyways, I went to the Yahoo portion of podcasts and was browsing around on another slow, steady boring day at work... and came across this... http://podcasts.yahoo.com/search?t=1&c=b&p=scifi What do you think we try to hook up with some of these podcasters or find someone within our groups to help promote the conventiosn we are doing? We need more awareness out there, don't we? Help bring the fans out of the closets and into our arms for fun and laughs? x-post into Conzilla, Anime-LA, and LaConIV Current Mood: contemplative | | Tuesday, October 25th, 2005 | 9:04 pm [katt1028]

Love Shack, it's where everyone's at....
Westercon 59 will be at the Mission Valley Marriott, located at 8757 Rio San Diego Drive. Reservations can be made with the hotel directly (1-619-692-3800), on-line (www.marriott.com) or via the 800-number (1-800-228-9290). Please use the booking code: weswesa to get our rate of $139/night. This convenient location allows people to travel by car, trolley/train and bus to get to the hotel. The closest trolley stop is Rio Vista Station (2020 Qualcomm Way). We recommend going to www.sdcommute.com for detailed information regarding public transportation to the hotel. For those flying into Lindbergh Field, it's a fairly quick 8 mile ride by shuttle or taxi. We recommend Cloud9 Shuttle (www.cloud9shuttle.com) for their on-time record. Today's pricing for one-way shared service is $11.50 and round-trip is $23.00. They also do small group pricing, so plan ahead!! As for taxi rates, the hotel's estimate is $20 from the airport. If you are planning a party at Conzilla, please make your reservation with the hotel and then forward your confirmation number to our Party Maven, Katt Thornton, (parties at conzilla dot info). We will start by blocking all parties on the same floor as the ConSuite. And due to the limited availability of adjoining rooms, if you are planning a two-room party, please notify us by January 15, 2006. These will be blocked on a First-Come, First-Served basis. For those of you with special needs of the hotel (adjoining rooms, handicap accessible, non-smoking), please send your confirmation number to our Housing Liaison, Meg Weaver, at hotel@conzilla.info. She will reconfirm with the hotel as we get closer to Conzilla.
