Eccentrik Festival 2009 update 3 bands announced. [Apr. 11th, 2009|05:37 pm]

ethereal_chaos
*The following info was taken from the official [info]eccentrik_fest Community

We are very happy to announce that The Clockwork Dolls & Lemming Malloy have joined the lineup for this year's festival

**The Clockwork Dolls**

The Clockwork Dolls began in 2007 with a simple concept - to create music that serves not only as a source for recreation but as a means of narration, a storyteller much like the days of old. The trio's strength rests in their unique combination of skills. Their music combines Allison Curval's knack for the fusing of traditional classical music with the epic sounds of contemporary musical scores and modern electronica with Helene De Fer's passion for poetic lyrics and Cedric Mayne's immersive musical style on the violin.

The music of The Clockwork Dolls involves an elaborate world that is simultaneously familiar and strange. It is one that is filled with flights of fancy, airships, and the technology of both past and future. With songs like Maiden Voyage telling the tale of a noble woman's dream of freedom and flight to the Ballad of Black Jack Jezebel, a story of a vengeful gambler set in the wild west, The Clockwork Dolls functions not only as a band but as a group of writers and actors telling a story of adventure, bravery, tragedy, and drama all mixed in with the occasional ho down.

**Lemming Malloy**

Introducing: a steampunk band for the twenty-first century.

We implore that you embrace inconvience. When society must bend 'round your steadfast chanciness or bow to your obstinance, the trauma bruises the straightened arteries of our streamlined monotony and reveals a jagged corruption - and the anomalous gesture reveals that life may yet hold variance, surprise, and, hence, interest. When you feel the imposition of system, create variance. The disruption of routine is the source of all adventure. An unwashed rogue is the talk of the town, and a brush with death is a day remembered.

Contemporary mechanical advancements deem them slipshod, but the image of absurd lumbering steam-vessels invigorates the spirit. The viability of the preposterous exudes the miraculous, and extravagance need not be a negative trait. Before the time of interchangeable parts, tinkering was an exercise in expression. Dreamships handymen contrived are now vehicles laborers assemble, but technology as whimsy can be re-explored once one embraces the impractical.

We humbly proposition you to join us on our musical adventures!

For more information, check out: http://www.myspace.com/lemmingmalloymusic

**The Extraordinary Contraptions
**

A lawman, a time traveler, a gentleman explorer and a mad genius join forces... to alter the sound of steampunk as we know it! The Extraordinary Contraptions, Atlanta, Georgia's own steampunk rock band combine superb musicianship with visuals from a time that never was. The rock and roll aesthetic meets the steampunk DIY ethic to produce unique sound and visual sensation. For too long have sequencers and synthesizers sapped the "punk" out of steampunk. No more. A little band from Terminus is on its way to the rescue on a stage near you.

In their efforts to forge a steampunk rock movement, they employ neoclassic rock chops and a Victorian aesthetic to tell the stories of their otherworldly alter-egos. Their self-produced debut album, Inappropriate on Purpose, touches on universal themes before careening into pieces about malevolent alien invasions and failed mathematical romances. As the steampunk movement grows, The Extraordinary Contraptions offer their quirky, guitar-driven vision of this alternate reality.

In January 2009, the band was invited to become part of the worldwide steampunk musical collective Gilded Age Records, joining Vernian Process, The Clockwork Dolls, The Tenth Stage, Viral Millennium, Unextraordinary Gentlemen, Ghostfire, Jill Tracy, Mister Joe Black, and Revel Hotel.

Eccentrik Festival VI (2009) Band Submissions [Mar. 19th, 2009|11:18 pm]

ethereal_chaos
This comes @ you via the [info]eccentrik_fest community.

Eccentrik Festival VI (2009) Band Submissions
Factors that influence to whom we make offers (in no particular order):

Genre – We try to balance Steampunk and Gothic with their sub-genres. Artists are sometimes selected who are not as "strong" as others, but they receive an offer simply because we need more artists of that particular genre.

Perceived Drawing Power – How much we feel that having a particular artist in our lineup will help festival attendance.

Artist's Performance History – If an artist is known to cancel shows frequently for any reason, they will not be considered to play at the Eccentrik Festival.

Stage Presence – Good stage presence is a major plus in our consideration.

Expense – The total expense needed to get that particular artist on stage, versus the other factors listed here.

Geographical Location – We try to make sure various cities and regions are represented at the festival.

How to submit:

Please send us an email to Bands @ eccentrikfestival.com providing the following details.

1) Artist Name
2) Website
3) Contact Name
4) Contact Phone
5) Contact E-mail
6) Number of live musicians
7) City, State/Province, Country the Band is based out of
8) Label affiliation (if any)
9) What genre best describes your style of music?

A CD may be required, so we will give you the mailing address once we receive your submission.

Valerie Meiss (The Hellblinki Sextet) "Scarbucks" recovery fund [Nov. 28th, 2008|11:17 pm]

ethereal_chaos

You are getting this message because Valerie Meiss,
the Vocalist/ Accordionist from the Hellblinki Sextet, desperately needs your help.

As you may know, Valerie was the victim of a violent crime on Sept 21, 2008.

While at a birthday party in Asheville, NC, she was attacked and stabbed
by her former friend and roommate.
Luckily for her, she was surrounded by a group
of friends at the time of the attack who very literally saved her life.

If not for them, this could all have been much, much worse.

The attacker is currently awaiting trial for the charge of "Assault with a Deadly
Weapon Resulting In Serious Injury" : A felony with a maximum sentence of 8 years.

Although Valerie's injury -- a deep and painful stab wound to the left lower hip --
was non-life threatening, it has been life altering for her.
She is finding day to day
activities (walking, sleeping, working) difficult and painful.
Things like riding her bike
to work have become impossible, and other things -- like lifting her accordion to play--
have become an exercise in true grit and determination.
Valerie is yet to miss
a single Hellblinki Sextet show because of this.
She played a show a remarkable 6 days
after her attack!!
She has also been forced to take prescription pain medication which,
if you know Valerie and her views on drugs and alcohol, is the antithesis
of her normal clean living lifestyle.

She is making use of some of the city's victim's services, but getting their help
- financial and otherwise - will be a long and slow process.
Her income has been
greatly diminished because of the amount of time she has had to take off of work.

At this point, Valerie has been paying for her own medical care: buying medication
and supplies. Other bills, like the ambulance ride to the emergency room, are still pending.

All of this while her assailant is free to walk the streets and gets
free legal council from the state.

This is simply not fair.

THIS IS WHERE YOU CAN HELP.

A benefit account has been set in up for Valerie to help cover her medical expenses.

If you have ever shared the stage with Hellblinki, caught one of their performances,
or just know Valerie as that girl who made your coffee at Caribou Coffee in Charlotte,
then please donate anything you can to help.

No amount is too small -- or large!

Time is of the essence here.
Why should Valerie's credit be damaged because
she was a victim of crime?? Why should she have to deplete her savings to pay
for an injury deliberately caused by someone else??

Please act today and donate to Valerie's recovery fund.

To make this easy, donations can be made

via Pay Pal by clicking on the photo below:

Or, you can send checks, cash, or spare change to her parents home at:

305 Longbridge Dr.

Matthews, NC 28105.

Make checks out to Valerie Meiss

Please don't wait to donate. Do it today.

Feel free to re-post this message to your friends.

If you want to send your good wishes to Valerie, go here:
