KidCon rules

Please Note

The Children & Youth programming is NOT child care. The staff and volunteers leading these activities are concerned about the well-being of the children. Therefore we have set the following guidelines for these activities:
1. All activities are to be age appropriate. Please check the schedule and descriptions to determine the activities appropriate for your child.
2. Every reasonable effort is to be made regarding safety. All programs will have a sign-in sheet listing the location of the parent or other responsible party during that time period
3. It is the firm opinion of the staff that no child under the age of seven (7) should be unsupervised at anytime. Therefore no child under the age of seven (7) is to be allowed to leave an activity unless in the company of an older responsible person.
4. It is our hope that all children under the age of 12 have a concerned older person in their life that provides supervision and escort.
5. We wish to provide entertaining and pleasant experiences. With this goal in mind, we reserve the right to deny participation to anyone we deem to be disruptive.
6. All KidCon activities are to take place in approved locations.
7. No alcohol will be allowed in the KidCon room(s) at any time.
Please! KidCon is NOT baby sitting!

Anyone may enter.

Costumers are encouraged to, and may always, enter at a higher level if they so wish, including “Junior/Youth”. A person who chooses to compete up a level and wins must then compete at that level. However, if a person competes up and does not win, in the future they are free to compete at their original level.
Judging will be done by points in each category, with a scale of 1-10 for a total of 30 points from each judge.
>> Costume Construction — How well is the costume made? Is it an original hand sewn (possible 10 points) or was it made from existing pieces in a different pattern? (possible 1 point)
>> Costume Beauty — The Oooo Ahhh Factor. Does this costume just stand up and grab you?
>> Presentation — How was the costume presented? Just a quick walk through would only be worth about 1 point, but an interesting routine and dialogue that shows off the costume could get the full 10 points.

Tentative Saturday Schedule
2-4 p.m. — Practice time
5 p.m. — Registration form deadline
6 p.m. — Helpers check-in
6:30 p.m. — Costumers check-in
7 p.m. — Room open for seating
8 p.m. — Masquerade begins
8:30 p.m. — Approximate time of Judges’ deliberation, Parade of Hall Costumes, Halftime entertainment
9:00 p.m. — Awards presentation, photo opportunities

Art Auction Bidding Guidelines

ConGlomeration strives to make the Art Show enjoyable for everyone. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to ask an Art Show staff member.

1. All prospective bidders must hold ConGlomeration memberships. Valid badges are required to pick up purchases.
2. The Art Auction is at approx. 10 p.m. Saturday in the Julia Bell Ballroom.
3. Most pieces in the art show will have an immediate purchase price at which you can buy the item before it has any bids. However, once a piece receives a bid, it cannot be bought immediately.
4. A piece must have three or more bids to be included in the auction.
5. All bidding must be in increments of $1 or more. ConGlomeration and the auctioneer reserve the right to set minimum bid increments during the auction.
6. Your bid may not be changed to another piece after the auction; your bid may not be cancelled after the auction has begun. Be sure of your decision before deciding to enter the auction.
7. If a piece on which you placed a written bid does not get a third bid, and does not go to auction, the piece is yours at the final bid price.
8. Once you bid on an item, you need to check to see if it receives three bids and goes to auction. If it does go to auction, you need to be present to defend your bid. ConGlomeration cannot determine the order in which pieces will go to auction, so it is a good idea to have a representative at the auction with your bidding instructions if you cannot stay for the entire auction.
9. ConGlomeration will honor personal checks with proper identification, traveler’s checks or cash.
10. Art is available for pickup from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. If you do not pick up and pay for your piece, it will be returned to the artist unsold.
11. ConGlomeration respects the wishes of artists concerning after-auction (Sunday) sales. Some artists will sell on Sunday for the immediate purchase price, some will not. Please check with Art Show staff for prices on pieces you are interested in.

Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are essential to any convention. Without volunteers, ConGlomeration simply wouldn’t exist.

Everyone you see working for ConGlomeration is a volunteer. This includes the convention committee and a great many members who are giving their time and energy to see that you have a good time. All of the departments such as the Con Suite, Registration and Programming are staffed exclusively with volunteers. All of the events depend upon volunteer labor.

There’s a lot of wonderful benefits to volunteering. ConGlomeration offers free T-shirts to volunteers who work at least six hours. And for every four hours you work, you get a chance in a drawing for one of four free memberships to next year’s ConGlomeration. But there’s other benefits — volunteering is without question the easiest way to learn about things that interest you, and to meet people with interests like yours. If you like art, sign up for a shift in the art show. You’ll meet other people who like art too. Want to meet the GoHs? Sign up for a shift in Hospitality, chances are they will stop in there for at least a little while. Want to see everything? Do a few hours as a Volunteer, running errands.

Remember, it takes a lot of work to put on an event like this and we need all the help we can get. While it’s true that if everyone who attended the convention signed up for just one volunteer shift we wouldn’t have enough jobs to go around, it is also true that we never seem to get enough volunteers. If you enjoy cons, show your appreciation by putting something back into them.
Take a few hours out of your weekend and sign up for a shift. Just go to the Registration area and ask where and when we need volunteers.

— Courtesy of the Klingon Diplomatic Corps — I.C.B.

The child will be taken to the Hospitality Suite until a parent can be located and informed of the situation.

Upon the third offense, the child's membership will be revoked, and the parent will be asked to remove the child permanently from convention areas.

It is important to us and the future of fandom that we involve our children in the multifaceted worlds of science fiction and fantasy. To that end, we encourage parents to bring children of all ages to the convention and its events.

Because of the lack of demand for baby sitting services in the past and a lack of dependable, professional help that we feel comfortable leaving children with, ConGlomeration will not offer baby-sitting services. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

A track of children's events and programming will be scheduled throughout the weekend, targeting several ages. We hope you and your children will take advantage of these programs to take part in fandom for the future. Please monitor your child's experience — some programs cover adult-topic material.

Every convention attendee over the age of five is required to have a membership badge and wear it at all times.

Badges must be worn in a highly visible manner. Staff members will be checking badges in convention areas. You will be denied access to convention areas if you do not have your badge. Your badge also identifies you to other convention members.

Be careful with your badge, if it is lost, the replacement cost is $25. If you do lose your badge, please report it immediately to Registration Desk.

Badges remain the property of ConGlomeration for the duration of the convention. ConGlomeration reserves the right to refuse membership to or revoke membership from persons who engage in disorderly, disruptive or unlawful behavior at the convention.
