Hijackthis log....can anyone tell me what is crap?
So my bf's sister has an old HP Pavilion (1.4 ghz, 256megs of RAM, Windows XP Home) that is extra slow and laggy. I ran a boot scan with Avast! and Malwarebytes Anti-malware. Found a few things but its still laggy and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what in this Hijackthis log report should be removed. Thanks!

I haven't run this through any scan yet, but just by a first glance, you have a lot of stuff running in your startup that doesn't seem necessary (ituneshelper? Nah. Why do you want that running on startup)?

I see a few things offhand like WildTangent, which is considered "light spyware" since in theory it's a video driver, but transmits your personal information somewhere, and I never found it necessary.

EDIT: Also, for your computer specs, you have an incredibly large log and a lot of things running on startup. I would start by looking at what you have on startup (Start -> Run -> msconfig.exe) and figuring out what are drivers and essential, and disabling everything else.

If they have been updating the software regularly (windows etc) they will need to upgrade to 512meg of Ram or more to get the performance they used to. The updates are eating their ram, as they bloat over time. 256meg was underpowered to begin with for an XP system.

oh yeah, I told them. Its just extra slow now. My main recommendation was to buy an external drive and start moving things off that they want to save.

The computer is 8 years old so they are planning on buying a new system eventually.
