This community was founded by a composer for composers for a variety of reasons. Slightly different from other composition communities on LiveJournal, this forum is meant for copmosers of any age or level of experience or note to share their music, their aesthetic vision, or to discuss specific problems in composing.
Not-Frequently Asked-about Answers:
1. This forum is open to any composer in any medium. While many may disagree about what "is" or "is not" music, please bear in mind that no attacks on a particular musical form will be permitted. We all work hard at what we do and it is unfair as well as irresponsible, professionally, to condescend. Disagree all you want, put be nice, or you're out.
2. While it is fine to talk about the "master" composers, it is more encouraged to talk about yourself. We want to hear what it is you're doing, and why you want to do it. Debating whether Mahler or Takemitsu is better really isn't what this forum is meant to be.
3. Asking for help in a sticky point in a piece is just par for the course: ask for advice, give it, or soak it in. Again, don't attack: don't go ad hominem and say "your piece sucks" and say nothing else. Questions deserve answers, and not bad ones. And the only stupid question is the one not posted, so have at it.
4. Feel free to post about your ideas, your experiences. It's all good. But, don't be alarmed: no one's here to steal your ideas. Use the honor code, folks.
5. Post about performances, upcoming ones especially, no matter where they are. Someone may be reading and -boom- there's a built-in audience member. When speaking about past performances, use your best judgment when describing the, um, qualities of the performers. Exchange stories about what works and what doesn't, as well as experiences. As always, use your best judgment.
The community is open for anyone to join, but I will moderate moderately, and trolls/troublemakers/ne'er-be-goods will be warned and then yanked out and trashed like so many worthless sketches. ALSO: Please do not post invitations to other communities or journals without seeking the aproval of the moderator. This community is designed for communication amongst composers and aspiring composers, but not for mass-communicated advertisements. (Especially if you run a community journal to which a person must -apply-. No sir. Or ma'am.)
