I just joined
15minlater, a community to document those comebacks you WISH you'd thought of at the time. Founded after a conversation in the murky comment threads that comprise , it looks like it has a lot of potential!

Almost two years ago I was a member of
hogwarts_elite, and I've just recently rejoined. For the uninitiated, it's a community that, along with its affiliates, becomes highly addictive very quickly. Prospective members need to fill out an application at
sorting_elite, where they are Sorted into one of the four houses or Squibbed.
Once Sorted, members can join their House's common room, as well as various communities where contests are held. They can earn points for their House, and at the end of the term (usually four months, and one is just beginning) can enjoy extra contests on Hogsmeade Weekend. Contests include iconing, drabbling, captioning, and other fun stuff. If you're into Harry Potter and like the sound of the community, reading the FAQ is a good place to start.

Hi, my name is Maggie, and I have long been an addict of icon communities. Especially Firefly icon challenges - at one point I had at least four of them, and several were weekly. School eventually ate me, and now I'm back down to two. One of them,
firefly_lims, constantly turns out icons of very good quality, because it eliminates the worst ones every round. I do tend to get eliminated early on, but it's still very fun, and this round only has 13 people signed up so far. Of course you don't have to participate to vote or just watch it - the icons end up being exceedingly pretty. Note that this isn't an entirely philanthropic community-pimp, because I get a round-skip for it - but if I get eliminated really early like last time I won't get to use it anyway, and I think it's good enough to recommend to more people than just my flist, most of whom neither icon nor Firefly.
Oh, the other one is awesome too, because it's a textless icon challenge:
fireflyhush. So many people go into an icon challenge and just slap a quote onto a crop, and I think "You know, I could just do that myself..." - well, you can't do that here!
Check them both out if you're a fan of Firefly, icons or both!

One of my favorite communities is
deadmentalking. Basically, a bunch of people pretend to be dead historical people--I'm Eleanor Roosevelt. Hilarosity insues, like when Freud and Groucho Marx start exchanging yo momma jokes, or when the Marquis de Sade comes over for a cup of tea. It's great for history buff or anyone with a sense of humor.

Hullo, all. I'm Kathryn. I am addicted to smut. Not just any smut, mind, it has to be Harry Potter smut... no, no, it has to be more specific than that: it must be Harry Potter's female characters' subtexty lesbian smut.
Which can be found at
hp_girlslash.
And I know it couldn't be construed as a small-ish community in need of advertizement by any means, but it really is my biggest addiction right now.

Hello. My name is Dana, and I'm addicted to
caughtsnippets.
It's a community where you can post that random stuff you heard that 13 year old kid say on the train. And others will join you in your pondering of what the hell he was doing with jello and a business card, anyway! There are even some people who like to make up stories to go along with the random caught snippet of conversation.
So go. Join. Feed my addiction.

Hi. My name's Linda, and I think I'm becoming a community addict. I've joined nearly as many LJ comms as I have LJ friends.
I've had a journal for almost a year, and I'm a member of 19 communities - most of which have been added within the last month. Furthermore, I've developed a bit of a habit for community creation; this can be seen in ,
comms_anon,
adjectinventive and , all of which I'd love to find a way to get more members for. I'm even considering another new comm.
EDIT: Considering? Not anymore.
blue_sun_region is a comm for the Blue Sun region in the online game NationStates, which is fun and you should all play. And join the Blue Sun region, obviously.
I'm sure with the right help and support we can all do something about this, and join and contribute to many, many more comms.

It might be said I'm addicted to communities. In my userinfo, there are thirty-two little link buttons for various icon communities, which isn't even all of the icon comms to which I belong. I'm a member of eighty-seven communities; I have posting access for seventy-five of them. And I run four communities on my own, only one of which is reasonably active (though small).
Would that qualify as an LJ community addict?
Probably. :)

Hi, my name is Lauren, and I'm gradually becoming more and more addicted to communities on Livejournal.
I think it all started with Yahoo Groups, to be honest. I moderate quite a few, and of those, started at least three. I haven't been as prolific starting communities here, but well, that may change.
I'm a member of communities I don't even post to. It's ridiculous! I join them and post once and then forget about them (admittedly, about four communities I joined haven't had ANY posts since I joined, but then they're for books with relatively small fanbases, or something similar). I recently joined
pups_n_rainbows and haven't posted there yet.
I guess I'm just addicted to reading the experiences of other people. Some of the big communities aren't on my friendslist but I do read them every day, and I occasionally get extensively involved in discussion on them.
I don't want to be cured unless it starts affecting my ability to work. Because answering the phone 'This is Lauren, how may I-- oh, wait, can I put you on hold while I see if
customers_suck updated?' isn't company policy. At ALL.
