| About: | The notebook had been a gift from Quigley, and Klaus was using it as a commonplace book, a phrase which here means "notebook in which he wrote any interesting or useful information." -- Lemony Snicket, The Grim Grotto. This is a commonplace blog, not a commonplace book, but the concept is pretty much the same. Whenever you read something you like-- whether you think it is clever, meaningful, funny, or maybe just good to know, you can post it here. It's not a Lemony Snicket community, that's just where I first heard of commonplace books (although they have been around since the Renaissance, apparently.) The Rules? 1. The first rule of Commonplace Blog is that making Fight Club jokes in a list of rules is lame. 2. LJ-cut if your quote is longer than a few sentences. 3. Cite your quote- author and title, and page number maybe, and/or whatever information you think is necessary. 4. You don't necessarily have to quote books- newspapers, magazines, song lyrics, websites, movie dialogue, any sort of published or produced or otherwise commonly-available work. BUT please don't just quote funny conversations with friends or inside jokes or whatever. That's what your own personal LJ is for, okay. 5. In the journal, just post the quote and citation. If you want to comment on the quote (like "This is so funny" or "That really relates to my life right now" or whathaveyou, do it in a comment). It'll keep the community tidy! Or something. 6. It's an open community, so if you think we're cool (we're not) feel free to join! 7.
