So im an creative writing major and I have write a 10 to 20 page nonfiction piece for my non-fiction class. The only subject I think I can even begin to write that much upon is my bisexuality. It'll include memories from childhood that make sense now that i know i'm bi and various other info and musings upon me being bi. The paper will be workshopped by the class (15 people) at some point.
But I've got a couple problems; 1. While I'm out to most of my friends and a couple members of my family, this will be the first time I'm coming out to people i don't know very well. I know I shouldn't care, but for some reason I do. This class certainly isn't the worst place to come out, most of the people being liberally minded and such, but I'm still nervous as hell about
2. I don't wanna be that guy that talks all the time about his sexuality as some way to get attention, cause thats not me at all.
I'm not really sure what i'm looking for here, reassurance or similar experiences maybe? I can already feel a little knot forming in my belly about all this.
Regards,
Ania A. Shapiro

I'm in my 30's and in the last two years, I have finally been able to return to school. I currently attend Mira Costa College in Oceanside, CA with a goal of transferring to Cal State San Marcos in 2009. But I've recently realized that I will not be able to do my two year transfer in two years because MCC does not cater to the transfer day-working person returning to college. So I am considering transferring to another Community College (Palomar) so I can finish all of my tier 1 and tier 2 requirements for my degree. I don't think that trying to transfer to the 4 year school is the right answer, I don't think they'll take me yet and I don't think I can afford it just yet. I can't go to school during the day because I work and I still have to support my family.

Hello there!
I'm currently living in Kuwait (I'm American), but I'm planning to move to California to pursue a master's degree. However, my bf has to start from the beginning and wants to start at a junior/community college first.
Can anyone recommend a decent community college in California? I'd like to take a few courses in a language (German, Korean or Arabic) and graphic design/desktop publishing. A school with those would just be a bonus. Being California, I'd like a location with lower crime and affordable rent. Ideally, not in LA.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Columbus State Community College Eliminates Several Sports To Boost Clubs
I say, good. Valencia did this a few years ago to fund their honors program and has become one of the nation's finest community colleges as a result. The Connecticut Community Colleges eliminated athletics at all twelve campuses about ten years ago, and only one college (my own) has reinstated them, now using a separate fund that doesn't affect the student activities budget in order to not eat up the funds available for clubs and student organizations.
I do believe that, as the younger student population within community colleges increases, the demand for athletics will increase as well, but I also believe that there are bigger priorities than sports. They are not money-making programs for most colleges and therefore only benefit the very small number of students who participate. At least with general student organizations, membership is open to almost everyone, and their programming and offerings benefit the larger campus community more noticeably.
Thoughts? Are athletics important to community colleges? Do you think more colleges should take this sort of action?

I'm looking into going back to school at a community college nearby (HVCC for anyone in the NY area). Currently I work weekdays in an office, but they're only open til 5, so my options are either staying at my current job and taking night classes, or taking classes during the day and find an evening/weekend job. The night classes look to be 2 or 2.5 hours long, and I'm just worried my attention my stray. Anyone have any opinions on which one you think is easier/better, if you have been in the same situation?

Hi there! I'm taking an introductory computer science class this semester and I just found out I need a second book for it that I didn't purchase. The book is New Perspectives on Office 2003 and its sort of a lab book for the course I'm enrolled in. I guess what I'm asking is if anyone knows where I might be able to download this book or portions of it? Or maybe your teacher has links to the labs online somewhere? I've already purchased a copy on amazon.com for $4.00 but who knows when it will actually get here. Help!!

Hi everyone! My name is Dana and I am writing a paper on why community colleges are good for the community. I have a few questions to ask. Both current and former community college students are invited to answer. You can either post back here or e-mail me at dtamsbary@gmail.com. Thanks in advanced!
1. What is your name (first and last, please)?
1. What community college did you attend?
2. Were your classes small? How big was your largest class?
3. Did you feel that your professors were accessible? Were they willing to help you if you were having difficulty?
4. Did you feel prepared when you entered a four-year college or university? What our-year college or university did you attend after community college?
5. Do you think community colleges are good for the community?
6. Did you feel that the professors that taught you at community college were qualified?
7. What was your initial reason for attending community college?

Just a heads-up that the Rankin Foundation applications are up. (That's one of those lovely scholarships where it's only about $500, but if you receive it, your transfer institution is likely to pay your whole way.)
They also have a new list of resources for students, especially (of course) returning women.
Edit: I take that back! They're up to $2,000 this year to a nice new grant they got. Spiffy.

I'm going to community college next semester, but I'd like to take the clep exams to try to get my core credits out of the way. So my basic question is, can I transfer into a university having taken these, or is there still the requirement that I go to two years comm college first? I'm under the impression that high school seniors are the only ones who get to avoid this process, but if I'm wrong, please tell me.
Also, how difficult is the clep say in comparison to the AP exams?
