Please Help - Urgent
Karen Ellis, creator of diary comic Planet Karen, lost nearly everything in a fire this weekend. The apartment above her own caught fire on Sunday night, and while firefighters fought the blaze for three hours, tragically, the occupant was killed. Karen is physically fine, but most of her possessions, including books, clothes and drawing supplies, are ruined beyond repair. The apartment itself has suffered so much structural damage that she's also been made effectively homeless. (See this comic for an account in her own words.) Karen is a valuable part of the webcomics community. If you can, please consider making a contribution via the donation button at Planet Karen to help out. Every donation, whatever its size, really counts! Girl-Wonder.org, the organisation that hosts Planet Karen, is also planning a fundraising auction on Karen's behalf. If you have items you think you'd like to donate, please contact Karen Healey at ten.karen@gmail.com for details. ETA: Please repost, email etc.--just make sure to catch the links!
ETA again: PayPal is not being link-friendly, so the link above now goes to Planet Karen, which has a donation button that actually works. | | Tuesday, January 13th, 2009 | 2:41 pm [ny_xx]

Creating a Blog: The Foundation For Exposing Your Work Getting Started with a Blog.In this article we will be explaining one of the most important aspects that will drive traffic to your website. We will be showcasing videos and discussing our own personal experiences. Having a blog is not only an important element for generating exposure it is also very useful and beneficial tool for connecting with people. Septagon Studios experience with blogs has been an evolution of sorts. Since adding an active blog to our website, our traffic rank has gone from an obscure 2 000 000 to now around the 100 000 mark. This growth has allowed us to go from having 100 visitors a month to over 1000 visitors a day. Killing the Grizzly #1: A Bold New Era Written By: Dave BaxterThe world has changed. There are less theatrical ways to put that, but none simpler in declaring this manifest truth: we’ve progressed. Beyond the printed page, though we’ve yet to leave those bastard scions of trees behind; beyond the water-stained warehouses and corner-crumpled cardboard boxes of overfed distribution systems. We feel far stranger today sitting there with a newspaper in hand, unable to double-click on names within the articles. If you like fantasy, fairy tale themes and lesbians then I hope you'll come by and have a read! The above image is a promotional postcard I made to advertise the website for the 08/09 convention season and the Bold Riley story, Wicked Temple which we released in print and the Alternative Press Expo that was held just this past weekend in San Francisco. SUPERGRRRL ADVENTURE COMIX #2 CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Writers, Artists, Bandits, and Revolutionaries-- SuperGrrrl Adventure Comix is a multimedia second-gen riot grrrl-themed anthology zine. We released our first issue with a bang this August, and we'd like our second to be every bit as awesome! To that end, we are looking for submissions of previously unpublished original fiction, nonfiction, poetry, black-and-white art, comic strips, interviews, articles, and reviews; from writers and artists of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. As usual, we are looking for a wide range of topics and perspectives, but if you're feeling thematic, we'll give you a very loose theme to work with: gentrification, appropriation of alternative culture, and ways to counter 'em! (Submissions do NOT have to follow this theme, nor will all pieces we publish--take it as a loose suggestion at best.) TO BE CONSIDERED FOR PUBLICATION IN SUPERGRRRL ADVENTURE COMIX #2, SUBMISSIONS MUST BE IN NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 30, AND QUERIES NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 1. We cannot pay contributors at this time, but we will happily give you contributor copies, random comic books, and our undying gratitude. Please see below for guidelines, and feel free to forward this around or post it anywhere you'd consider appropriate. Sincerely, Rachel Edidin and Jen Vaughn, Editrices ( Specific guidelines below the cut. ) | | Saturday, September 20th, 2008 | 2:19 am [rae_beta]

Holy crap my comic is finally done. All written & drawn by me! Get lost in the surreal tale of Ted, an unusual young man with a severe case of selenophobia, (fear of the moon). As you are led through his horrific recollections you will wonder whether Ted's paranoia is caused by schizophrenic hallucinations, nightmares, or if a monstrous moon is really coming to steal his soul. 24 pages, traditionally made (no digital fonts/color!) Closing this community
Hi-- Since the only posts here are advertisements (generally ones that violate the posted community rules), I think this account should either 1) be handed over to someone actively involved in comics who wants to put in the time to make it a real community, or 2) be closed and deleted. Any feedback? Thanks. | 12:01 pm [figgy_puddin]
