(Xposted from my LJ) The Ballad of Rodger and Grace By Daniel Kitson and Gavin Osborn if you've seen kitson your probably already fan, and therefore should see this show, though only one performance left, at 4pm today, so you may have already missed out. this is a story of 2 men who meet on a train and their stories. One an old man's tale, told by Daniel in storyteller mode, the other, the young mans tale told in songs by Gavin. it is lovely. and the rain started beating down on the bosco theatre in perfect timing with the story's mood. Asher Treleaven Cellar Door i didn't know what to expect from Asher's show. the title Cellar Door is actually named after J.R.R tolkeins belief they are an especially beautiful sounding combination of words. so to almost counteract the title , Asher explores some of the worst pieces of writing he has discovered. the show has an interesting premise, but it doesn't quite get fleshed out into a full show considering the scope he has for the topic. and the choice pieces of bad fiction he has at his disposal. a small crowd for a rainy mid week unfortunately seemed to throw his performance as well and the presentation seemed a bit too loose, which was a shame as it seems he should be a character bubbling with energy and that he really seems to enjoy the shows more physical send off, a non sequitur dance routine.
Wil Hodgson Straight Outta Chippenham this is an interesting show, its tales of living in chippenham for an ex skin, ex wrestler, punk my little pony collector. the laughs are there, it's more of a laugh like you get listening to the wild stories of a mate, a story telling of exaggerated hearsay, but the stories are interesting, and the speaker is engaging , and chatters non stop whilst barely moving, and makes quite an imposing figure so any pause or break into an animated facial gesture are more surprising when they happen and reveal another side to this stand up. sometimes you almost feel Wil is obsessive compulsive about his my little pony collection and he speaks with a passion seen only in the most ardent fanatics within a culture (perhaps Andy Muirheads will do a UK special some time and features him on Collectors ;)
Josh Earl in Where Did I Come From If you have seen Josh before you know what to expect. a collection of songs gathered loosely together into his theme , this time a look at where he came from, his family and his upbringing in Burnie, Tasmania. A lot of the jokes were about things in Tasmania I'm sure were funnier to me being a fellow ex Tasweigian. but it seemed the almost full house was also laughing along. Josh comes across as very natural, though apologising that he's getting a flu, the show could be tightened up with a bit less of the "um yeahs" this is a guaranteed hour of fun. As Josh assures us at the beginning , this is a warm cosy bath of a show, and it is, though we don't get any realisation of sitting in our own cold filth at the end. just a warm happy feeling.

Hello one and all - Com Fest is upon us again! Please feel free to post reviews etc in the community so we can either share your experiences or know what to see this year.
The Gala will be on Channel 10 on Monday 31st March 8:30pm. Obviously check local guides etc.
Oh and also I think Sydney has a festival on at the moment? So any if any Sydney-siders want to share - please do!
-Liz (I'm not attending ComFest this year - your other Mod, Cat, is in Melbourne as we speak!)

Hi guys!
God, 2007 flew by didn't it? Well, for me anyway!
I can't believe it's coming up to ComFest time again. I truly, honestly, absolutely can't go this year because I'm going down to see Spamalot on the 5th of Feb anyway and then I'm saving to move to England in October. So I will live vicariously through you all!
The programme comes out in The Age on the 14th of Feb in case you didn't know.
Has anyone booked any shows yet??
Happy New Year etc etc!
~Liz.

Wow. Hi. No one's posted in for ages. So I'd better. Hadn't thought about it for a while because I've been busy overseas in Bali plus work and back to uni so I apologise for not setting an example!!
However, not been much comedy about really has there? I haven't seen any since the Roadshow in Wollongong. Sideshow has had some good stuff plus there's Thank God You're Here back on to tide us over until some more live shows come up!
Random fact: I saw Andy Lee and Megan Gale in a Vietnamese restaurant in Wollongong last month. They came in after us and got their meal and left before we'd even eaten! Ha, figures!
