Project Open Hand Needs Help!
I know you're probably tired of hearing from all the local non-profits about how much they're hurting and how bad the economy is. Unfortunately, though, it's true.

Project Open Hand Columbus, which provides about 300 people living with AIDS and HIV in Central Ohio with free meals, food pantry services, and nutritional counselling, is in dire need of financial support and food pantry supplies.

So, why am I asking you to help, knowing that we're all broke and worn out from the winter? Well, there are two things you can do.

1. You can actually donate money or supplies or both. Monetary donations and supplies for our pantry can be delivered to Summit United Methodist Church 82 E. 16th Avenue Columbus. We're located on the corner of Waldeck and 16th, on campus.

And/Or

2. You can pass the word along to people you know who are in a better position to help out. If you belong to a group that does fundraisers or drives, ask them about helping POHC. Even if you pass this along to three people you know, you will be helping out tremendously.

I know this couldn't come at a harder time for everyone, but you know that when those of us with homes and food on the table are having a hard time making ends meet, those who don't have health or home to rely on have it even worse.

The current situation here has forced the POHC Board to make drastic cuts, including one of only three full-time positions. We just lost one of our most dedicated staffers today, and now, not only are we low on money and supplies, but part of our hope is gone, too. I'm coming in to help at the office as much as I can, and the board has committed to filling in the gaps operationally, but we still need some help putting ourselves out of this dark well we're in.

So, thank you for taking the time to read this. We certainly would be grateful for any and all help you can provide.

Hey there - I passed that on to the people at my old job who did community service stuff. I'll see if I can't round up some help in other ways too.

Just wanted to let you know too, they're interested in helping out, but the organizer has to go away for work next week & said she'll try to work something out for the end of the month. I need to get her the phone number and stuff, that I think you posted. I'll go back and look for it.

Can't right now...am at work. DAMN.

You should talk to Panera. They donate all of their leftover bread at the end of the day to places like this. The one on Grandview Ave. just south of 3rd has a sign near the cash register asking for places that would take their leftover bread. (It's not really "leftover" but it's stuff they didn't sell during the day, but can't hold till tomorrow and sell it then.)

What kind of volunteers do you need? What kind of hours are you looking for? I'd love to help if I can.

I'm retarded and read that wrong. Sorry. I'll see if I can get some stuff from my apt and see if I can snag some stuff from my friends apts too to bring over. I'm not so well off in the way of cash but I do have quite a few cans of things I know I'll never eat. Where would we drop it off at? I know the church you're talking about, I just have never been there before and am not sure how to get in. *feels retarded*

Honey, don't feel stupid. I'm an ass, and didn't post important details like our address and phone. Duh.

We would LOVE to have you volunteer. We need route drivers, help prepping and cooking meals, and office help whenever you're available during the day.

The phone number here is 298-8334
the address is:
Project Open Hand Columbus
c/o Summit United Methodist Church
82 E. 16th Ave.
Columbus, OH 43201

If you drive, I know we need help filling some of the recently vacated driving routes to deliver meals. If you call or stop in, you'll need to talk to Laurie or David, and they'll get you set up right away.

Thank you so much!! You rock!
