Project Open Hand Needs Help!
I know you're probably tired of hearing from all the local non-profits about how much they're hurting and how bad the economy is. Unfortunately, though, it's true.
Project Open Hand Columbus, which provides about 300 people living with AIDS and HIV in Central Ohio with free meals, food pantry services, and nutritional counselling, is in dire need of financial support and food pantry supplies.
So, why am I asking you to help, knowing that we're all broke and worn out from the winter? Well, there are two things you can do.
1. You can actually donate money or supplies or both. Monetary donations and supplies for our pantry can be delivered to Summit United Methodist Church 82 E. 16th Avenue Columbus. We're located on the corner of Waldeck and 16th, on campus.
And/Or
2. You can pass the word along to people you know who are in a better position to help out. If you belong to a group that does fundraisers or drives, ask them about helping POHC. Even if you pass this along to three people you know, you will be helping out tremendously.
I know this couldn't come at a harder time for everyone, but you know that when those of us with homes and food on the table are having a hard time making ends meet, those who don't have health or home to rely on have it even worse.
The current situation here has forced the POHC Board to make drastic cuts, including one of only three full-time positions. We just lost one of our most dedicated staffers today, and now, not only are we low on money and supplies, but part of our hope is gone, too. I'm coming in to help at the office as much as I can, and the board has committed to filling in the gaps operationally, but we still need some help putting ourselves out of this dark well we're in.
So, thank you for taking the time to read this. We certainly would be grateful for any and all help you can provide.
