| Hello! |
[10 Jul 2009|09:01pm] |
New member as of... um, five seconds ago. >.> XDD
I'm Siona, and I"m new to Columbus; just moved here 4 weeks ago! \:D/ And part of moving include painfully getting an OH liscence and such so I'm able to drive to my new job.
The only problem being, my roommates and I simply *CANNOT* find a current address of where I would need to go to get the test. We found a DMV in Whitehall on East Broad St just south of Gahanna, but they gave us directions to another place and we've... well, lost the directions. And we need to be there tomorrow.
HELP? 8(

Talk to me about sandwiches. I like them. I want to eat them for lunch. I am familiar with chains, but I want more. Subway kind of sucks. Location: more or less west of 71, excepting the innerbelt (this excludes Katzinger's, Brown Bag, and Ohio Deli, unfortunately). I'm not terribly picky - I like turkey, roast beef, ham, pastrami, salami... If you can deli-slice it, I'll probably eat it. The Platonic ideal that I'm looking for would be Mike and Rosy's Deli in Springfield, if you're familiar. But I'm open-minded. So tell me about your favorite sandwiches on the north and west sides. Thanks.

| New Grove Forming... |
[07 Jul 2009|11:28pm] |
As an hereditary Witch with 13 years experience, I am looking to form a new Grove in the Columbus area...
A teaching and working group... Eclectic but with leanings towards traditional British (pre-Wicca) Paganism, Celtic, Druid, Faerie and Shamanic paths...
It is a place for forging lifelong friendships, for your voice to be heard, for you to fan your flame and to find yourself...
The Grove will come together twice monthly to grow, learn and share, where everyone has a part in the ritual, and will take turns leading the group...
The Grove will be a place where all nature-based traditions can be respected and honored, and I strongly believe that dogma of any kind can be detrimental to true spiritual growth, everyone's path should be unique to the individual and we seek to follow a more personal path in our faiths...
This Grove will suit beginners, those wanting to explore other paths, traditions and relationships with chosen deity in a more personal way, or those who have never participated in a formal coven/circle/grove/hearth...
Though whether you are new to the Craft, or have experience as either a solitary or in a coven, I am interested in hearing from you, and will respond to all serious inquiries...
Mentoring and teaching is available...

| CompuServe officially dead |
[07 Jul 2009|11:29am] |
CompuServe, the first commercially successful online and email provider in America, has been shut down by AOL after 30 years of service.
The original CompuServe — later renamed CompuServe Classic — was laid to rest July 1, 2009. In a message sent to its remaining subscribers, AOL urged customers sticking with cheap dial-up to move on to the company's surviving sub-brand ISP, CompuServe 2000.
Full story here.
This is related to Columbus as CompuServe's headquarters was located in Columbus. They even sponsored a BSA Exploring Post at their HQ. Everyone's favorite employer, Calltech, got its start being the Customer Support and 1-900 Tech Support center for CompuServe customers.

Hey! Does anyone know of any decent Chinese, Indian, or Thai restaurants open later than 11 p.m.? I usually am craving one of those when I get off work (especially the Chinese!), but haven't really been able to find anywhere open that late. East side preferred, but if it's super yummy and reasonably priced, I'll drive further. Thanks!

Is there some reason no one is in the Tri-Village area tonight? I ate dinner with my mom at Figlio, and we were the only ones in the whole place. Jeni's and Stauf's were nearly empty as well. I watched the fireworks from my normal spot at Grandview and Goodale, and there were three other families. Usually there's about thirty. Then, driving back to my apartment, I noticed that there are only a few chairs put out for the UA parade. You could walk up tomorrow morning and get a front-row seat. In previous years, people have stake out areas several rows deep. Where did everyone go?

| A Personal Appeal |
[03 Jul 2009|09:07pm] |
Election day is a month from tomorrow. This is a very important vote for people in Columbus. There is a critical issue on the ballot which would raise the city's income tax from 2% to 2.5%.
I've thought a lot about this issue. It has been very difficult for me to decide. I am disabled... which means I use a lot of city programs which would be slashed if the issue doesn't pass. It also means, however, that I don't pay city income taxes... which means I have to be extra careful when it comes to spending other people's money.
Proponents of the issue say the city hasn't raised income taxes in nearly 30 years. They say this amounts to someone working for 30 years without a raise. That's not true, however... income tax is a percentage, which means taxes automatically go up every time inflation causes earnings to go up. Essentially the city has gotten an automatic raise every year. Also, there are thousands... maybe tens of thousands of people who work in Columbus but don't live here... so they must pay the income tax without receiving most of the benefits.
Consequently I am probably going to vote against the tax increase even though it will break my heart to do so. I feel terrible for the city employees and others who are dependent on city services.
But most importantly, whether you agree with me or not, be sure to vote. It is so important to care and to take part in the process. If you need voter information you can find it [here]. Also, it is not too late to apply for an absentee ballot. You can get information on absentee voting [here]

| Red White and Boom. |
[02 Jul 2009|03:47pm] |

I tried to find suggested routes or whatnot for getting in and out of the fireworks tomorrow. Neither the County or the CPD are hazarding any guesses. I suppose if you go down there, that's just your ass. Fill up with gas before you go, and maybe take some calming CD's to listen to in the car. Prayer? I don't know what to tell you.
