The Beyond the Grave Challenge!
Announcing the Beyond the Grave Challenge! (Finally!) This is a fairly simple challenge for all of us Snape/Tonks lovers. All stories or artwork must take place after the end of Harry's seventh year. It can be days after the Final Battle or decades after the Final Battle. Or any other scenario you can come up with. It's up to you.

Stories can be set in the Afterlife or Snape and Tonks could somehow have managed to escape death and need to start new lives.

All that's needed is an idea and a prompt.

Posting will begin on October first and will end on October thirty-first. All genres and ratings will be accepted.

In order to sign-up, simply respond to this post and choose a prompt. The prompts are a variety of single words with various meanings. The word does not need to be incorporated into the piece, but the general idea of the meaning of the word does.

When posting your fic, please use the following format:

And here are the prompts! Prompts may not be chosen more than once, so sign up early!

Absolve
Bare
Chaste
Divide
Eclipse
Fixture
Ghost
Harsh
Illusion
Just
Lie
Mercy
Nudge
Oppress
Patch
Quiet
Reap
Steel
Throb
Useless
Voice
Wear
Yearn

I'd like to write a story where Snape survives and makes crucial life decisions--one of which is not to see Tonks before he leaves. (He doesn't know she left Teddy to join Remus at Hogwarts.) It would be angsty, maybe a little romance in memories, using the prompt Quiet. Let me know if that fits the challenge! :)

Eeks! I need to reword that. Basically I meant that it has to be set after the final battle, no matter how you choose to bring the characters (one or both) back to life. No they can stay dead. Don't feel hindered by my poor word choices!

And the prompt is yours. :)

Hi! My story wants to have lots of flashbacks during the books time period, plus it wants to start during the final battle, before Snape's "death." (but it will proceed beyond the battle for 2-3 years). I know that fudges the rules a little, but would it still be okay to post for the challenge?

Ugh. I'm sorry this took so long to reply to. It's totally fine, and I hope you assumed it would be and didn't try to change anything! I can't wait to read it. :D

Don't worry about it! I actually am changing it, but not because you took a long time to respond. I just didn't like the way the flashbacks were blending (or not blending) with the "present-day" stuff. So I'm going to pull the flashbacks out and repackage them as a separate fic for post-challenge posting. But they will still serve as the backstory for the fic I'm now working on. So I guess when I do finally post them, it will be like a prequel for the challenge fic.

I'm hoping to have enough writing time this week to finish the story and post early next week. *fingers crossed* Wish me luck!

Sounds fun. And don't worry about time. I'll probably end up extending the challenge, because I want to write something for it. And if you can't extend your own challenges... ;)

Taking the prompt "Lie", and using in the sense of "lie down", not "to lie about something."

:D Will be fun!

Tis yours! :) And you can interpret the word any way you want. That's part of the fun.

I am seeing several good ones there but I know that: "Ghost" will come in handy for the story I have in mind.

I'll have YEARN!

OMG OMG! My first ever challenge! I'm excited! Thanks Kerry for sticking with the community and making great challenges. And, question: Do challenge based fanarts have to always include both Tonks and Snape? Do I have to post exclusively one fanart?

Oh, I'm so glad you're going to play! To answer your question, it should be about both of them, but that doesn't mean that your art has to include both of them if that makes any sense.

And bare will make for some wonderful artwork! :D
