Radiohead Nude "Lucid Dream" remix

For all out there who are not aware, Radiohead is allowing folks to do remixes of their song "nude" (see radioheadremix.com).

I'm both hoping folks will enjoy my version of the track (a very dreamy, spooky track that builds to an explosive end), which you can listen to here:

http://www.radioheadremix.com/remix/?id=2073

or here, if the html works:

(I uploaded it with only a week to go, so I'm a latecomer - voting ends MAY 1st!!! - and am hoping you'll vote and share with your friends so they might vote!)

AND

I'm also hoping to listen to remixes of other folks. So if you have one, message me with where I can listen to it. Specifically I'm curious what other Portland/Oregon/Washington folks have made, but ultimately I'd like to hear from everyone wherever they might live.

Most of all, I hope everyone just keeps music alive (both in listening and in creation) as a language, as a means of communicationg, as something beautiful for the soul.

Nevyn Nowhere
http://www.happyhumans.org
Sad Music for Happy Humans

THEE ELECTRIC BASTARDS on CHROME PEELER REC.

THEE ELECTRIC BASTARDS "Live! At Club Awesome" CD
CHROME PEELER RECORDS

Featuring members of CLOUDS, OCTAVE MUSEUM, HYDRONAUT and PET GENIUS, and produced by Stephen Brodsky of CAVE IN and NEW IDEA SOCIETY, "Live! At Club Awesome" is a 11-song STUDIO recording of the band playing live at their rehearsal space.

Boston's Thee Electric Bastards, whose expansive psych-pop falls somewhere in among Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd, the Zeppelin end of the White Stripes catalogue (but only if it was scored by an Elephant Six band), and Yoshimi-type Flaming Lips. And if that seems like an awful lot of territory, well, they cover a hell of a lot of it. With songs about futuristic life (Robots Do Not Rock) blatant machismo (The Peepin' Song, Play The Fool), alcoholism and mental health (Millennium Blues, Black Jets), The Bastards have allowed the listener a peek into their sordid little world, where society's ills and fears are celebrated. All of The Bastards songs are well crafted slices of weirdness, with compelling breaks in the music that are sometimes jarring in effect. It harkens back to the days when rock music was more experimental, and less formulaic.

RIYL: PIXIES, SYD BARRETT, FLAMING LIPS

Available for $7 directly from Chrome Peeler Rec. for $7.
Ah, Crap.

Today, I was doing my typical show, and happened to be ending with a lot of Metal that day.
A got a call, and it was a request for... Eric (Forgot the last name).

Whatever it was, I said I didn't have any, but I would look it up later that night and try and play it the next week (This is a weekend show).

So here I am, looking for some kind of 'Eric' (Erik?) on iTunes. Mainly because I was a fool not to write it down because I had my hands full with the soundboard.
Any Ideas on which Eric I'm looking for? (I know for a fact it isn't Clapton)

So Far I've seen Eric Johnson, and the name sounds vaguely right.
But a lot of his music sounds a little softer than I would've expected for when the request was made (shortly after playing Slayer, I believe.) The album "Venus Isle" sounds closer to what I'd expect, but I'm still cautious here. Perhaps I will just admit my mistake this next Saturday and get myself corrected.

Special Show ~ Need Help

Hello, I was wondering if anybody out there could give me some help with a special show I'm planning this next week.

I do a weekend specialty program on my local college station, 4-6 in the afternoon on Saturdays. Typically, the station is an alternative format, playing a mix of the top Alternative rock charts and some older Alternative. My show is a little different. I still play some alternative, but not much. My show trys to feature some Classic Rock, Metal, Local Bands (not many yet...still working on that one), Ska, and a light selection of Punk. I also try to include some foreign music if it fits (mostly british stuff).

Anyways, this next week I'm trying to feature songs that have the same title, but are different songs. For example, both Bruce Dickinson and Silverstein have recorded songs titled "Freak"

Just to clarify, these are not 'covers' of previous songs.

My exceptions to the titles being the 'exact same' may be flexible. If I can't get enough, I'll allow the use of the word "the" (As in Distance by Drawing a Blank and The Distance by Bon Jovi) and maybe plurals (Like Factory Girl by the Rolling Stones and Factory Girls by Flogging Molly)

If anybody here has any Ideas for more songs, I'd appreciate the help. Note that If I don't have a song, I need to be able to find/get it by Saturday, and my time is limited.

Thanks,
-L

some questions about djs

hi, i'm writing a fictional novel with a main character who is a DJ for a college radio show. I have a few questions that hopefully you guys can answer for me.

1. What kind of stuff is basically a "no-no" for a DJ (on or off air), other than cussing... What would get your show canned?

2. How did you get your show?

3. Is there some sort of way that college radio calculates popularity or listeners? If so, how?

4. What is the general atmosphere?

5. Anything else you think might be important for me to know?

RIAA Radio Royalties?

I am not posting this to tick anyone off, just some interesting industry news I thought everyone should be aware of, as it'll effect everyone.

http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/business/la-fi-radio21may21,1,1028211.story?coll=la-headlines-business-enter&ctrack=1&cset=true

Now the way I understand it, is that most stations already pay for licensing through ASCAP or BMG or something like that. So, perhaps this is why I am so stumped by this. Additionally, as I've read, it appears that the royalties, regardless of whose song was played, and their affiliation with the RIAA or not, go directly to the RIAA, not any respective label or artist.

You know, I really want to like the RIAA and believe they are working for the best interests of the musicians and artists we love, but after reading stuff like this, it really makes me question that.

From the first calls of the Muezzin during "Before" to the
endless fade out of "Her Future", this album is a reawakening of modern hardcore
and grind, and sets the stage for intelligent punk in the next decade.

---

THESE ARE: - Scare Tactics
9 Song EP
www.myspace.com/theseare
www.theseare.net

Clocking in at just under 20 Minutes, These Are:'s sarcastic and youthful
anthems bring back memories of Black Flag and The Stooges, but mix in the DIY
basement appeal of Deep Wound and Refused before, you know, they got popular
and stuff. Guitars cut in and out of the mix, snare hits crack like a bat to the eye,
and before you know it, chants like "NO GOD NO" are sticking in your head as you
mope through another day at your shit job. Combining the sludgy, droney elements of Crowbar or Soilent Green with the absolute blasting force of Pig Destroyer, adjectives like abrasive and devastating, do not even begin to touch the full extremes of this group. What little will be left after The_Network's set will be cleared away by these men.

THE_NETWORK
Dover, NH
myspace.com/thenetworkmetal

Recalling memories of bands like Coalesce and Deadguy, the frantic, desperate music of The_Network is something that can only truly be experienced live. I've been playing shows with these guys for four years now, and they've destroyed every damn thing in their path whenever they play. Countless microphones and guitar cables have fallen mercilessly at their feet. The frustration and contempt for all things worldly that is felt within their guts becomes reality for fifteen minutes, with guitars swirling, drumsticks flailing, and microphones sailing through the air. You must see this band to believe they actually do what people say they do. Plus they're fast as hell.

PORPHYRIA
Maine / New Hampshire / Massachusetts
myspace.com/porphyria

Formed in late 2003, Porphyria is a 5-piece death metal band based out of three states (ME, NH, MA). Their 5 track EP, recorded with Ken Susi in April of 2005, is cutting-edge death metal, filled with some of the heaviest parts New England has ever heard. They have played 100+ shows all over New England and to as far as Ohio within the last two years with some national and international acts such as: Suffocation, Cryptopsy, Vehemence, Despised Icon, Beneath the Massacre, Akercocke, Vital Remains, Cattle Decapitation, Malignancy, Internal Sufferring, Immolation, Dehumanized, Mortician, Incantation, Goratory, Wasteform and many more. This band is consistently tight and razor accurate. Expect them to be picked up by a major label soon.

THE TASTE OF SILVER
Arlington, MA
myspace.com/thetasteofsilver

Hailing from the small historical town of Arlington, Massachusetts, The Taste of Silver has been making surprisingly large waves in the underground music scene. Combining the likes of Phillip Glass and John Cage with music like Assuck, Reversal of Man, and Dinosaur Jr, their blend of melody and technicality is a breath of fresh air in a world of one-hitter wonders and pattern songs growing progressively stagnant. They have played over 300 shows in over 35 states, and have just released their second album on Hold True Records. This band is sure to win you over with their passion and integrity live.
