Anyone at FIDM in LA?
How is it?
(just a little snapshot of your life would be awesome)

No such entry?

What is your major? Do you find your program challenging? Did you get any scholarships? What about FIDM is stressful?

haha sorry, you were too late to see that post [i delete things after a while].
im majoring in fashion design, its challenging as heck, i dont think i got any scholarships [im not even sure @__@] but i did qualify for free money, and the thing about fidm thats stressful is lots of work to do in a small amount of time. i heard this varies from major to major though, with fashion design being the most difficult.

Did you have drawing experience prior to entering FIDM? What's the second most difficult major (as you have heard)? Is there anything you wish you knew about FIDM before entering it?
Are you originally from California? Are many of the people you are friends with originally from CA or from elsewhere?
Gah, these questions are crazy... I mean, answer whatever you'd like to...
I keep getting really unclear crap from the admissions counselors I'm talking to, and I need to know if it's going to be a total waste of my time or not.

i didnt have any 'professional' or taught drawing skills beforehand. i just drew for fun [but i suck, hahah]. the second hardest.. i dont know about that one. i wish i did more research on OTHER fashion design schools cause i kinda just went with FIDM hands down with no knowledge of other schools. this kinda applies to anything, but if you try hard and apply yourself, then its worth all of that money youre paying. take advantage of EVERYTHINGGGGG! teachers, resources, etc. one sucky thing about fidm is how early they close, which means no staying late to do hw. they dont even open everyday of the week. [the times vary on the branch]. i also heard from someone else that the industry doesnt really care for fidm students and that theyre all the same. but then again, my teacher said that school doesnt matter [that your talent, skill, and knowledge matters]. he also said fidm is the parsons of the west coast. yes, im from california. most of my friends are from here too, but i know that there are many out-of-state and country students too. theres even an organization for those people [but in-state people are welcomed to join too]. just a fun, get-together kind of organization. ask more if you want. sorry if i dont make sense sometimes x__x

You have no idea how helpful this is... And I understand exactly what you mean. In research it seemed to me like FIDM would be a pretty good school to head to 'cause of it's locations. Is there another fashion design school you wish you would've gone to? Oh snap... So, is FIDM the Parsons of the west coast, or are the students that graduate FIDM not considered as good as students that graduate RISD or FIT?
That does suck that they aren't open late. I would think that they would be, for super sewing time, but are there any computer labs or fun things to do later on campus? Do you live in any sort of FIDM provided housing?
Hmmm.... I'm going to visit FIDM during the first week of December. Anything specific about LA or SF campus that I should check out that you wish you knew about before you decided to attend FIDM?

the only other school i would consider going to is OTIS cause i heard they were top notch, but then again its because they are a 4 year school which gives them more time to develop themselves. also, their hw load is killer from what i heard. im not sure how fidm students are again RISD and FIT, actually.

i know that for the OC and LA campus, they dont open late. not sure about san diego and san fran though.. it might be different. if youre gonna have sewing classes, i really recommend getting a sewing machine. it doesnt even have to be an industrial one~

oh yeah, when im talking about fidm, keep in mind i only know about the OC and LA campuses, since ive been to both. ~__~ im not sure what you mean by labs. if you mean rooms dedicated only to computers, the LA campus has a building like that. they also have labs that are just times when teachers are available to you for help on hw and whatever. fun things to do on campus.. i can only think of one thing, which is watch tv or movies, haha. the library has quite a collection of movies, tv shows, fashion-related stuff, etc. that you can watch for free. you cant check it out though.. oh yeah! the san fran fidm is in the middle of union square i think, [or nearby] which means lots and lots of shopping goodness x]

theres things to do outside of campus, like cool food places and shopping, but i guess that could be applied to [almost] anywhere, haha. no, i dont live in FIDM housing. i live not too far away so i commute @__@ [traffic sucks!!] i think with housing, its only done quarterly so i dont know if you would be able to stay there during the break or not.. i would ask fidm about housing since i dont know too much.

when you go to visit fidm, i think youll be touring, right? theyll pretty much tell you this and that as you walk around. just feel free to ask the guide any questions you have! i dont think theres anything specific you need to check out.. it seems like youre doing a good job in asking questions, haha. if they let you, you could ask the students there these questions too [that is if school is in session.. dont be afraid to randomly ask people either]
